Nothing special to see here. This is just to post a picture of an experimental micro quad racing gate.
Base: 2' long base legs from 1/2" PVC pipe with 10" upright (which comes off for transportation)
Gate: Collapsible fiberglass pup tent pole ~13 long (breaks down into 2' sections) I have three full length sections
Opening across bottom: 7'
Height to bottom of pool noddle" 53"
Used rubber straps and hooks to hold opening distance of the base. Parachute chord w/hooks would be better and lighter.
The gate is free standing, can use a couple of tent stakes to secure the front legs to prevent flip overs from, ummmm, 'copter strikes.
I should be able to get three full gates in the original tent carrying bag...no need for a big vehicle w/lots of carrying room
Grasshopper 300 hex hanging from top, center of opening for reference.
Fiberglass poles: Free...already had them and haven't used the tent for 25+ years anyway
PVC tube: ~$2 for a 10' length...enough for 3 sets of stands
PVC T-fittings: ~$2 for 10ea...only need 6ea for three stands
Pool noodles ~$2 for two each from a dollar store
$13 for new elastic chord running inside the f/g tubes...the old chord was shot...after only two+ decades of non-use.
I'm thinking of cutting up the tent and use the nylon shell for the gate material vs pool noodles...lighter and folds up smaller.

I've been asked several times how I connected my Dragon Link UHF Long Range transmitter to my 9X transmitter. Here's a quick show and tell. For the 9X, nothing could be easier.
I'm using a Flysky 9X...same as Turnigy 9X. I installed a Smartie Parts board in the 9X which provides a back light for the LCD as well as a convenient connection to flash custom ER9X firmware. First a few links if you're interested in this.

I mounted my DL unit on a JR transmitter stand that clamps to the 9X carry handle. I secured it with velcro and a battery strap. This mounting allows me to swing the unit to keep the DL antenna vertical while holding the radio.
The DL requires three connections to the Tx...PPM, Voltage, and Ground. With the 9X rf module removed you have easy access to the module pins. The top pin is the PPM signal. Controller: Open pilot CC and DJI Naza...they both worked well. I think I'll leave a CC on it as they're more adjustable than the Naza.
The GoPro camera case is home made from 1/8" light ply
Without the GoPro and case the battery mounts centered on the c/g and flies GREAT. Flight time was in the 8+ minute range. After I mounted the GoPro it flew like crap...barely controllable. After studying the MM6 thread I noticed an added cross bar on the rear arms for a more rearward battery mount. I added a similar cross member to my rear arms and moved the battery further aft to balance the weight of the GoPro up front. Night and Day difference...now it flies great with the GoPro...though only ~6 minute flying time now. My issues all along were a nose heavy hex with the camera installed.
Also with the camera case installed the hex does not sit flat. Studying the MM6 thread again I noticed, what looks like a, zip tie under the battery. Ah...a rear landing leg. I added two wide zip tie straps to my rear arms and now have a frame that sits...Continue Reading
