Gearing up for a long winter build season I decided to warm up on a plastic model. I haven't completed a model kit in probably 20 years! All my paints and glues are dried up and or way past there expiration dates so I went out and bought some new Testers acrylic paints and some awesome Testers Liquid cement! Wow! this stuff is a game changer for me. Sooo much better than the goop that squeezed out of the tubes back in the day.
You can guess what model this is so I won't tell you But it is going to be done up a bit differently than most. More pics to come...

I'm not sure what happened. One minute we where happy building and flying planes. The next we have a garage full of cars and trucks!?!

2 ECX Ruckuses
1 Losi XXX SCB (upgraded with a screaming fast 4800kv brushless system!!!)
1 HPI Blitz SCT
and 1 1/18 SCT (no name?)

The little man and I are really having a hoot with our new toys I really like the fact that he is wrenching on his own stuff and he is about as good at driving as me. No more buddy boxing my precious aereoplanes.

Finished up my new XP4(.5?) last night. I bought it NIB box from a RCGroups member this fall, and have been slowly piecing it together. Nice easy build, no surprises although I did mount my HStab crooked somehow? Popped it off and squared it up again. I guess the old measure twice cut once adage should be re-written to measure thrice…

AUW came out to 10.05oz with this equipment on board:
AR600 RX
2 JR 285 for the tail.
2 PowerHD DS44 servos in the wings. These are new to me but so far look ok for DLG use.
1 360mAh 2S Rhino pack
1 Voltage regulator from Skip Miller.

It is balanced at the 73mm mark. I had to add a nickel to the nose to balance it.

I recently had my JR9503 stolen out of my truck so I am setting this up on my brand spanking new DX8. So far it looks liked he DX8 will be more than adequate for DLG use. I did take the case apart and moved the trainer/bind button to where the Gear switch was. It is an easy swap, no soldering or cutting. Just remove the switch and replace. The only stumble was the side rubber grip. This wasn't mentioned in the manual and took me a few minutes of scratching my thick head. Basically you remove the two large rubber pads on the back of the TX. These are held on with 2 sided tape. ONce removed take out the 6 screws holding the case together. But now you also have to take off the side rubber pads. These are also held on with 2 sided tape but its a bit hard getting them off. I slid a metal ruler under an edge to get it started. Also note that you don't have to take these all the way off. I just peeled them off the back part of the case and left them attached to the front. Its really easy and goes back together just like new.

Next up is my new NEOS from Thomas at ArmSoar. Great looking CF ship. I have a start on it and hope to have it finished this weekend.

Now I just need some warm(er) weather with no wind so I can get this guy out for a maiden.

Being a 4 eyes I thought I would post a quick review of some great RX Sunglasses I found, maybe help some you on the same path I was on. I am always on the lookout for some descent sunglasses. When I was a bit younger and wore contacts I could pick up any cheap pair of sunglasses and be happy. As I got a little older I just couldn't stand the contacts any more. Every brand and gimmick I tried just irritated my eyes after a looooong hard day of work. So I have been stuck with glasses for the last few years. I have had a few pairs of rx sunglasses. Mostly cheap ones ordered off the internets, clip ons and flip ups, I was never happy. The eye Dr. would only have cute designer frames that cost an arm/leg/first borns ear. Insurance would never cover enough to make it worth it. So I have been back to the intergoogles looking for that one pair of awesome RX sunglasses that I know is out there. I needed a, rugged, light weight, good fit, and all the light blocking I could get sunglass. I stumbled onto http://www.esseyepro.com

ESS caters to military, police and fire. So if you are a member of one of those groups you probably already know about them. They offer safety sunglasses, and goggles that can literally save your eye from shrapnel if someone happens to lob a grenade your way! Unfortunately the RX sunglasses don't have the same safety rating that the non rx glasses do but from what I understand they still offer some protection, they just aren't military certified. Go check out...Continue Reading

I just finished my Multiplex DogFighter. After seeing it released I thought it looked like a fun plane but didn't really pay much attention to it. Then a few weeks ago I found a NIB for a great price so I jumped on it. Well this little plane has turned into my all time favorite plane! I judge this by how much time I sit at work day dreaming about flying it. First there was the slow stick, than the PA Addiction. That got knocked off by the GWS corsair (super corsair). That one had clipped wings and near 100mph speed also . Then the 3DHS Edge 540 quickly followed up by my Topsky DLG. And lets not forgot about the Yak 55 from leadfether! Then PZ spit held the honors for a few flights but now this DogFighter I think takes the top spot from them all, period. It just seems to fly so nice, does everything well and makes me look like a good pilot. It has rocket fast speed. Well over 100mph I would judge on 3s (I have a 4s waiting for a turn). Truly unlimited vertical. It will climb until its a dot. The roll rate is a blur and thats on low rates(I have not gotten it off of low rates yet) plus it slows down so nice, hardly a break in the stall. As a matter of fact on low rates I can't get it to stall. It just glides around with the nose up a bit. I can fly around like this in "glider mode" for a surprising long time, keeping the nose up wings level with ailerons and steering with rudder. I bet when the thermals get strong I could catch one with this thing.

So hats off to Multiplex for this great flying sport plane/rocket/drill/mower/glider thingy!

So I just received my shipment of pieces parts from HK. Inside the box is this great little surprise (read sarcasm)! What the heck? I feel like I am taking the kids to McDonald's all over again. What ever happened to the stickers? Stickers I could use, reminds me of Cracker Jacks and getting the free tattoos. Now those where awesome! But this cheap a$$ monitor mirror(I guess that's what its for) is just idiotic.
I should be getting a new box today, I hope it has another one in it so I can put one on both corners of my computer

Got some pics from Eli Field from yesterday. They held Illini Jets there this weekend. Had a great turnout and lots and lots of awesome jets.
Beside the jets they also had noon time demos of the new Scimitar as well as the new strykerQ and the UMStrykerQ. I must say I was impressed. The Scimitar is really a nice looking plane in the air and it can really move out and do some crazy stuff with its thrust vectoring. The UM Q's where impressive because they flew them great out in the wind. And it was windy! Had a nasty cross wind for the whole show, made for some nail bitting when a 20,000 dollar jet came in to land. But they are all pros so they all made it look easy.
Speaking of pros, Seth Arnold was there showing off his mad skillz, and he has many. Did demos with the Habu, some other jets I think, a crazy performance with a heli and an awesome demo of H9's new 35% Extra. This kid is crazy and has the skills to back him!...Continue Reading

Many have come and many have gone. This is my current flying stable of aircraft. Not pictured is my EXI 450 clone.

I just recently sold off a bunch of aircraft to make room for a larger aerobatic bird. I am still not sure what I am going for. I thought about the Great planes 55 Yak, The Aeroworks .60-.90 Yak 54. or the yet to be released 3DHS Yak 55, plus some other bigger and bader Yaks (I think I want a Yak) Or might just say heck with it and get a nice DLG

Plus I need to get an easystar so I can get the kids going in this hobby.
Grrrrrr...so many planes, so little time

Great fun today. I got to help a new pilot learn how to fly or at least crash the proper way. It was a little windy 10 ish with gusts way over that. I flew some of my planes first to get a feel for it. It wasn't too bad I didn't think so off he went. I talked him into getting an Easy Star. Man nice plane! I wish I had started with one instead of the Slow Stick. I took it up first for the maiden after checking it over and setting it up properly for the maiden. My impressions in flight are that it is very stable and floaty. I even caught a thermal and climbed till it was about out of sight. But I find the stock power system is a joke. I double checked and triple checked the prop to make sure it was on the right way. I just couldn't believe that they would sell such an underpowered plane to newbies. On that same topic the rudder is all but useless. Making full deflection rudder turns only to maybe sort of start to turn doesn't seem like the best way to learn. Other than that I can't say enough nice things about it, especially after some of the crashes, doinks, cartwheels and bounces this thing took and literally no damage!
I have a plan for the upgrade path for him, it stinks that it is needed so soon on such a nice plane. We are going burshless/lipo and I am going to hack the vert stab in half and make a proper rudder!
After the flying we walked across the street to watch some cool Race what You Brung auto actions!!! Very cool

Was a good weekend in here in central Illinois. We had the Big Bird fly in at the Champaign field and the Jet Rally at the Monticello field. Great weather, a little windy but didn't bother any of these birds. Was a fun day for my six year old and of course old dad
I forgot my camera so I didn't get any pics from the Big Bird but remembered on the way to Monticello that my Droid has a pretty darn nice camera in it (doh!) so I snapped a few from there.
And I have a crappy vid you can check out too.
VIDEO0003 (1 min 33 sec)

Enjoy

Just showing off my flying site Its in St. Joseph Il. right along side interstate 74. Anyone driving through or any locals to Central Illinois pm me or e-mail and we can go fly. As far as I know I am the only one flying here.

I have a new set of "Fly Low" graphics for your use. Obviously its not my slogan (who came up with it?), I just created some new fun graphics to go with it. They work great with clear inkjet water transfer paper. The one in the center would work good on white paper. You could also print on paper and glue them on to foamies with some 3m77. They are roughly 3 in square and you can edit them in Illustrator or in acrobat.

Enjoy!

This kind of stuff really trips my trigger. I check out the CG Society web site out every so often to see what kind of kick ass visuals there are out there. They have an article on a concept movie for the Stormbirds game. THere is some awesome art and a kick ass movie.
Check it out and enjoy.

This for you mac guys out there. I just compiled a build log into PDF for GGRN's scratch built 262 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=883927

Any way Word sucks so I found a great replacement. Its called NEO Office.
http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
The first time I used it was to make the PDF. IT was a snap to use. In just a few minutes I was getting into some advanced editing that I still don't know how to do in Word. So if you are like me and want to stick it to the man (Bill) than try it. No I don't work for them and I don't get anything for this. This is just my personal opinion. I won't be going back to word anytime soon. Did I mention its free

I joined the ever growing Slow Stick club
I decided I needed something that would consistently fly while I build others that don't I can honestly say that this was the best purchase I have ever made. First I got it sans motor for 14 bucks! I tossed on bits left over from other projects and just like that I am flying. I already have a list of mods I plan to do to it but for now I am enjoying the slow flight
