Mini Rare Bear at HobbyKing.com

Mini Rare Bear at SkyAngelrc.com

PM me any other places to buy (in US) and I'll add them here....

Okay, I have to admit. This little stumpy plane has caught my attention recently. The stock setup flies great and there is tons of room for mods.

I heard some folks getting close to 150 mph + speeds.

I thought it would be a good idea to start a blog for this plane as it deserves one.

Everyone is very welcome to discuss, post, comment, upload their rare bears, build tips, videos etc.

As usual we'll maintain a list of the fastest rare bear to date...

Even since I saw these cute little planes zooming around with their tiny little edf jets, I thought what would it be to jazz it up...

After few weeks of looking at fellow flyers 50 mm EDFs I decided to settle with a F-16 for my "Steroids" Project.

Couple of pros:

1. Tough foam
2. Lots of scope to scoop out foam (and use the duct for battery and electronics if necessary.
3. Cheap (or rather I should say affordable)

Cons:
1. Very little space for battery/electronics and so top speed would be limited to around 150 mph or so.
2. Very small cross section so may affect visibility and control at fast speeds.
3. For their wing loading, these could very well become flying bricks, May be bungee would be appropriate at that point.

Although this is my build (b)log, it is open to everyone to ask questions, post their pictures and have a constructive positive experience for all.

Happy flying !!

Welcome to my thread on reinforcing Foam planes.

I get questions on fiberglassing / reinforcing foamies all the time and I thought it would be helpful if I can create a thread with tons of pictures and or videos on how to reinforce a foamie.

Pls understand there are lots of ways to reinforce a foamie and I have documented my way of doing things, based on my experience with reinforcing and glassing.

This thread is read-only just to make sure all the information is grouped together...

Any questions can be discussed in my "Funjet on Steroids" thread
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=744411

or in the "Multiplex Funjet Thread".
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=474757

Also please be patient this thread will grow slow, due to lack of time...

For quite some time Ive been thinking about the Osprey / VTOL planes. I rarely see any RC plane successfully take off vertically, transition into forward flight and then transition back to hover and land.

I looked at many VTOL projects posted on the net and studied why they failed.

I think its about time to use all the lessons learned and attempt to make a RC VTOL plane that will hover, transition to forward flight and then transition back to hover to land.

Please feel free to post your comments / experiences.

Happy Hovering !!!

Welcome to my Lynx on steroids thread.

Flight Summary

September 1st, Fully trimmed blistering fast video

May 13th, Maiden

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Projeti is an expensive cut of foam but it the right choice for anyone willing to go insane. Then I set my eyes on Lynx. Its cheap when on sale, and the design can be modified extensively.

So I'm going to start with my first lynx. This is going to be a almost stock build (plane only) so that I can compare them after making mods.

Pls feel free to jump in and post your comments, suggestions, experiences. I hope this thread will be very useful to anyone interested in this plane.

Happy flying !!!

Hello,

Welcome to my Topgun Projeti Squadron Build Log.

You may be aware that after getting few requests from flyers asking me to build a top dog projeti for them, I've decided to test the waters and posted a ad for custom built projeti for sale.

The response was overhelming and hence I've created this thread after securing few requests for a custom built, mean and top notch Projeti.

Nowhere till now we can see 5 Projetis on the bench getting built in a methodical and professional manner.

It is a sight to behold to see them getting build in parallel.

Few of the flyers has asked..."Why Projeti.. why not some other plane? Did I get a comission from anyone to promote Projeti..etc"

The consolidated answer for such questions follows:

No, I have no sponsorship from anyone to promote this plane.

Yes, In my perspective it is an expensive cut of foam.

Yes, There are other choices that will give the same or more performance.

Yes, I'm curently experimenting with a Microjet to fly past 200 mph (yeah right )

Yes, I'm currently building a lynx to go as fast as fast as my current Projeti.

I chose the Projeti because I was looking for a wing with nice aerodynamic profile some space in the center to hold the battery and electronics. Projeti fit the bill and you know the rest of the story.

In case you missed out, here is my original Projeti build thread. It has tons of information about how it all started. This thread is live and will continue to grow.

I've started this thread to post my build pictures and techniques I'm planning to use on my upcoming Demon. If everything goes as planned there will be few videos as well after the build is complete. I'm planning for go for a 6S 3800 lipos with a suitable long can motor.

I intend to keep this thread as informative as possible for everyone.

Pls feel free to share your experiences, tips about wings.

Flight Summary:

Unless specified otherwise, all flights were flown in a ALF (Almost Level Flight) pattern. As the speed increased I realized it is too risky to fly level end to end.

My definition of ALF is "Level flight for most part except a gentle descent from the starting point of the flight path". ALF keeps the plane in your vision all the time and gives you a greater degree of control at very high speeds.
