The 56th Fighter Group was credited by the Historical Research Agency U.S. Air Force with the destruction of 665.5 aircraft in aerial combat, the group had more aerial victories than any other fighter group of the Eighth Air Force and was the best score of groups with P-47 during World War II, also registered 311 fighters destroyed on the ground.

The P-47 Fire Ball was piloted by Lieutenant Philip Kuhn, a member of the 63rd Fighter Squadron of the 56th Fighter Group.

The model airplane kit is a P-47 greatly altered, modified for the model M. The unusual color used is one of the striking features of this model in the range 1 / 6. Has a detailed cockpit, ammunition, flaps, retractable landing gear, canopy that opens and closes and external fuel tank.

The replica was made to play the game in the spring of 1945 and that the coating was used by the squad in the last months of the war.

The model aircraft was a joint effort of David P. Gianakos of Littleton, Colorado and Bob Frey of Phoenix, Arizona. Bob was the pilot and model airplane flew skillfully in many prestigious competitions around the country.
