Bit if nostalgia today at Northwich Swapmeet. I'd been umming and aaahing about whether the make the Mini Super build electric, or go all nostaligic and fit here with the same PAW diesel that the original was fitted with all those years ago.

Anyway, there on the table today was a PAW 15 RC diesel - said it was unrun, but I'm not certain - but certainly in good order. The chap was happy with a lower offer than that he had marked up and seconds later I was holding a diesel for the first time in many a year.

The die is cast, the Mini Super shall be a diesel model - it's now a question of either rediscovering the joy of covering in dope and nylon, or checking for a film alternative. Maybe Profilm is diesel proof?

So, it's the end of the year 2011.

Weather and work commitments have meant no flying for a couple of months and the workroom hasn't been touched either. I've made the commitment to take part in (and hopefully attend) the RCM&E 2012 Vintage Build and Fly-in at Greenacres. That means finger-out time and retrieve the Mini Super from it's position towards the top of the overflow kit mountain in the next few weeks.

A mega tidy up is in order first though, just to be able to see the surface of the work bench. As a record, and in advance of some New Year Revolutions, it was time to take a few shots of the current state of the workroom. The last set of resolutions, aiming to fly as many of the featured airframes during the year was a bit of a damp squib. Maybe this time, without setting an actual target, more of them will see air over their wings, including some of those in boxes.

Hopefully by this time next year the kit mountain will have diminished somewhat, there will be more airframes hanging up, and a clearer bench. Yeah, right.

I came back into the hobby of aeromodelling in 1993, soon after my boy was born. My idea was that it would be a great hobby for us to share and so, when he was a baby I embarked on learning to fly and a bit later, when he was 6 or 7 years old, he'd be ready to start flying models.

As a result, we've enjoyed some great times together at various flying fields around the country and made some great friends.

This weekend was the weekend when my boy left home, as a young man, to take up his place at University and start his career. It was quite an emotional weekend - even though he's only a couple of hours away, it's still a wrench.

Made all the more so by yesterday being the first club fun-fly event that he's ever missed. There was a big hole in my heart yesterday at the club field and something of the end of an era. One consolation though was that a clubmate, whose son went off to University this time last year, enjoyed a great day with his lad, who was back home for the holidays - so I have that to look forward to

So, I thought I'd put a few pictures up here in my blog of those earlier days and some very happy memories.
