Hi all. This is my first attempt at a blog, so please bear with me. First a little bit about the author. I live in Meridian, Mississippi and have been active in RC for around 2 years now. I've always had an interest in the hobby, and about 20 years ago built an electric powered sailplane to about eighty percent completion, but never got the radio gear and put it in the air.
Then a couple of years ago while having lunch with my wife I noticed our small local hobby shop next door in the shopping center we were eating at Quizno's at. I went in to kill a few minutes before returning to work and noticed the many low cost RTF electric park flyers available. Once again my interest in RC was re-ignited.
I picked up a few brochures from Parkzone that day to look over. A month or so later I was the proud owner of an Aerobird Firebird Freedom....looking back, probably not the best choice for a newbie who was planning to teach himself.
I studied the instructions watched the cd, and bright and early the following Sunday morning was off to the local soccer field. I picked a spot to give me as much room as possible, fired up the plane and launched it. It took off like a big bird in a beautiful smooth climb. Wow, I thought, this might not be so hard after all..until I made about the second turn and noticed the plane was getting a little further away than I was comfortable with, and close to some thick woods.
