Dropped by E-Fest this afternoon. Great to get interested again in flying after a long winter.

Picked up my flying buddy Ellis (Chubby) after work and spent a couple of hours cruising vendors and watching some good flying.

Picked up a few modest goodies along the way, an LED light set, a few servos and a small motor /ESC combo. A nice Multiplex Merlin was calling my name but I put it off for now. I was able to score a nice Spektrum hat from Missy at the Horizon Hobby's booth.....thanks Missy!

Chubby did get a chance to check out the Habu, he has one on order and should be here in a day or so. They offer a nice retract kit that would work on the Habu, looks like he is going to get one.

Well next year I need to sign up and fly.........Continue Reading

Kicking around the shop today I decided to convert my Fling to electric. I bought it from a guy who was getting out of the hobby and it has never been flown, I considered flying it as a pure glider as intended but figured I would lose interest pretty quick.

I cut open the nose with my Dremel and added a 4300kv Ammo inrunner and 4.2x4 prop. Probably not the best motor choice but worked well enough to test it. I will look for a lower kv motor and a folding prop for it.

As a glider the servos are mounted in the front with a pull-pull system, but with all the gear I had to move them to the back of the fuselage. I cut them in the fiberglass and used music wire to run back to the tail.

The ESC and receiver went up front. As grandpappy would say it was like shoving a wet noodle up a wildcats ass but I finally got it all stuffed in.

800Mah 2 cell under the wing and a little bit of weight on the tail for balance and I was ready to go.

It was a bit windy and cold but I decided to run one pack thru it. Flew just fine, even heavy it glided well. It should make for some nice simple fun on a warm summer day.
