If you are reading my blog you probably saw the countdown banner. I'm pretty stoked that we are nearing 20 MILLION posts. That's just insane! It's kind of hard to wrap your wire around. Think of all the topics, all the thoughts, all the information, all the planes and all the good times that it takes to make 20 million posts. Congratulations to all of you RCGers that helped to make it happen, and are making it happen at this very moment! WOO HOO!!

The "mobi" site is missing some features but it uses less bandwidth so it will load faster.

Man oh man is RCGroups.com growing by leaps and bounds!
I was just looking at our stats at the bottom of the forum and I about broke my antenna when I saw that we had more than 1.5 million threads...not posts, threads! Holy smokes! I heard Cliff Whitney call RCGroups the "collective" and with 1.5 million threads I can see why. Congrats to everyone!!

You might have noticed something new today. We have added Facebook "like" and Google +1 buttons! This is cool because now if you see something you like on RCGroups you can share it with your friends on other social networks.
They are located next to the post reply button on threads, underneath the map on the maps page and on member blog pages underneath the username and title. They are super simple to use. If you like something and want to share it on Facebook just click the FB "like" button. If you want to share it on Google click the +1 button.
If you just can't stand the sight of these two buttons we have a solution for you too! They can be disabled by going to myrcgroups -> edit options, then go to the forum display options in the thread display options section and click the disable social media buttons check box. It's just that easy!
Now click that like button up there...you know you want to!

Hey gang, just your friendly neighborhood transmitter mascot here again with another exciting announcement about the RCGroups Beautification project!
We've just uploaded some changes to the beta style we toyed with earlier this week. Thanks to everyone who contributed feedback. Some of you just hate hate hated it because it was a fixed width style, so we're trying some new things this time.
Here is what we've changed:
The new style is something we're calling "adaptive width" because it will let you resize it up to a certain point. Give it a shot and if you don't like it try the fully fluid width. Note that unless you have a widescreen monitor you won't see the difference between the two.
After our last test ended with some negative feedback, Jim Bourke posted some thoughts to explain why we wanted to try a fixed width style, for those still curious.

Here is what we've changed:
- Added a notification/style switcher under the main menu for all styles
- Increased contrast between all text and background colors
- Fixed bug that was causing horizontal scroll bar to appear prematurely when sizing the window down
- Added a minimum and maximum width to the content area instead of a fixed 1000px width
- Added a full fluid style
- Various small fixes

- And many small changes designed to make the site more compact and easier to use!
We plan to make a number of additional changes, all of which will be available to the beta users first.
How to turn on the beta style:
- Click on the "My RCGroups" tab on the blue navigation bar
- Go to the box on the left side of the window that says "Settings and Options"
- Click on "Edit Options"
- Scroll down to "Miscellaneous Options" and change the forum skin select box to "RCGroups Beta"

I like to keep up with the news and the news is we just broke our record for most users online! Now there are different ways to measure this number. Some sites go by hours, some go even longer but the RCGroups.com time frame is 15 minutes. Yesterday in one 15 minute window we had 4,078 users online at the same time and that my friends, is a new record for us! So yippeee and horay for RCG!!
Anyone that has met me will tell you I talk a lot. I go on and on about expo, throttle curves, mixes and of course about all the stuff I read on RCGroups.com, but I am no match for you, the users of RCG. How do I know this? Well funny you should ask. I just looked at the bottom of the index page and noticed a number down there. I noticed a great big, ginormous, muy grande number! That number is 19 MILLION!! That is how many posts have been made on RCGroups and it's blowing my mind! Since most of my body is my head that's a lot of mind to blow! So congrats to all of you who made that number so big. That's a lot of RC goodness in one place!!!

I bet everyone thought I was slacking off for the summer. It is pretty hot for a transmitter so I have been taking it easy watching all the videos on RCGroups and that's when it hit me. I decided to make a "Recent Videos" page! I took a pinch of YouTube, a smidgin of Vimeo, and mixed it all together. The result is you can now view 2,000 of the latest videos on the site, 50 videos at a time! It's like having your own RCGroups.com movie channel!
See the Recent Videos page here:

Dear Jim B.
It is a special day today because this is the day you were born. I wanted to wish you a happy "Bourke" day! HA! You have done so much for the hobby, for the online RC community and I will be always be grateful to you, because if you had not drawn me on a napkin many years ago I would not exist. I hope you have a great day and all your wishes come true.
Sincerely
Terry the Mascot

Hey here is another super cool thing I found using the new Recent Attachments feature!
This is Lupus78's 3d printed Hellcat model. He used the Shapeways service to have the model printed in 3D. Very cool!!
For all the pics check out the thread or the thread gallery!

So there I was scorching through the site when a build thread slapped me right between the eyes - BAM! This is the most intense build thread I have seen for a while and I had to stop and share it with all you guys!
This user is building a 1/7 scale Sopwith and he says, "Replicraft plans are of the real thing right down to the nuts and bolts so however the real plane was built that's how I'm going to build it and what ever worked on the real plane will work on this one." The detail on this build has to be seen to believed. As a transmitter I would be proud to control something like this...

Ok here is a new twist on the work we've been doing with attachment browsing. I just put a little link at the bottom of the left column of stuff on the Classifieds page.
Click the See all the latest ad pics link and you will see all the recent attachments made in the Classifieds section.
Enjoy and watch for more cool changes coming soon.

Hey everyone! Today I found some wire, a metal gear servo and an old sock. I took all these things and with the help of my trusty 15 watt soldering iron I came up with yet another cool way to view photos on RCG! I call it the Lightbox Attachment Browser and it does some pretty trick stuff! When you click on any image this thing pops right up. You will be able to see who uploaded the image in this sweet black box (black is the new black you know). Also inside the box is info that can tell you what post the image came from. You can view all the attachments in the thread, or if the photo breaks a site rule you can report it to a moderator. Everything is linked right there in the box. Pretty cool huh?
For all you old old school RCG users you can still view images the old way by going to "My RCGroups", then go to "edit options" in the attachments section and check "Use old attachment browser to browse attachments within a thread."
But I know everyone is going to love the Lightbox Attachment Browser so don't even read that last part.
Give it a spin by clicking the image below.

In my never ending pursuit of trying to see everything posted on RCGroups I have invented yet another cool feature that all of you can share! I call it the Thread Gallery. When you click on the paperclip icon from any thread list it will take you to the double cool Thread Gallery. The Thread Gallery will display all the images that are in that particular thread. You can disable it and use the old attachment browser through the edit options page in "My RCGroups" but that's not as much fun as using the new Thread Gallery. I have included some photos below to help you figure out how to utilize the super sweet Thread Gallery. Enjoy!
PS - I just wanted to take this chance to say Thread Gallery one more time!

Do you know what's cool? When RCGroups users upload photos. When it gets slow around the RCGroups.com offices, I like to check out all the photos uploaded by our users. Yesterday, it hit me: What if I could look at every photo a user has uploaded to RCG at one time? How much cooler could you get than that? I can tell you, none more cooler! So I got out the soldering iron and created a user thumbnail gallery page. That means with one click you can see every image a user has uploaded to threads, the classified section, a blog, articles and more. If they uploaded a picture you can now check it out in the new user thumbnail gallery!
The image below shows you exactly where the link is to see all the photos
I have to go now and look at everyone's images!

Hey gang, we added a new feature today. You can click on the Recent Attachments link down there in the site footer to see all the pictures and other stuff people have uploaded recently.
The page updates every hour.
Speaking of attachments, did you know we have over 3.5 million images in our database! Holy cow, that's a lot of pics!
