Do you have a blade nano or mqx sized quad etc, want to have some fun? If your in illinois you know your ready to do some flying indoors and have some fun. Its been a rough winter out here, even people I met at Efest recently didnt care much for the weather out here and named it ''Snowmageddin''. This weekend is your chance to have some fun, maybe win a trophy or two and even a quadcopter if your lucky. Check the link here for more info at BigSquidRc and check out the flyer below.

Not much into competition? Its not a world championship event or anything.. Its for fun and to roll in the new flying season. Who knows, maybe we'll play rock um sock um quads when were done if your more of a basher type flyer. Did you see some of the testing from the quad shootout we did recently?

Flew a epp f-22 for combat at efest, first time flying combat. It had been sitting for a year and the welder hinges didnt hold up to well to a couple hits but it was fun while it lasted. Threw a rx in it and dialed in some dual rates and expo the week before but combat was the first time flying it since last years efest. Its hard to believe flying against the pattern for some good head on kamikaze carnage i didnt make contact more often... Other planes just veered off. Haven't been much into planes since i got the multirotor bug last year but I think i'll be building some kamikaze combat planes to test when I can these year.

Made this park jet a few years ago. A few of these tearing it up for combat would be fun.

Had a little down time while charging quads for testing during a shootout and got some indoor quad racing in with the proto x quads. These tiny things are fun, relatively durable and inexpensive so I could see them being good for indoor quad racing events at local tracks and other venues. The RTF quad shootout should be up sometime this week at BigSquidRc.. its well worth a look if your looking at some of the current rtf mini quads available.

Wanted to try out a hexacopter,Its not quite the same as a tricopter or v-tail quad.. no where near the yaw authority. A bit tight in the yard but should be more fun at the field.. Has decent power,The meter reader dude said its ''Bad Ass'' lol.

Snowed earlier in the week but it cleared up and I got a chance to fly it a bit more today. Just relaxed flying in the yard to to dial in the gains a little.

First flight after flying it in the yard. Would fly quite a bit nicer with flashed esc's and 1.6fw on the kk 2 but flys decent considering the set up. Gonna retire this frame and work on the pvc quad i started on.

X350 Aluminum Quad Scratch Build Yard Flight (3 min 59 sec)

Put this one together a few days ago with extra gear that was laying around. Aluminum is pretty strong and worst case scenario an arm will probably bend in a really hard crash rather than crack like plastic, carbon,or wood. Should be easy enough to bend back at the field and continue flying and be flattened out perfect once at home with a hammer and a 2x4. Weight isn't to bad with flat aluminum and no milling, with a 3s 1300 its 25oz rtf and 28oz with a 3s 2200 but could be considerably lighter with a different power set up....the frame is 195g. Flys well so far but i haven't had it out in an open area to dial it in for acro yet.

I mostly fly when I have time but it was fun to run the cars over the weekend for a change at the local hobby town. Here are some pics and videos if you couldn't attend or never seen what goes on at rc car events with bashers.

Put another flight on the v-tail to try out some changes. After flying flashed esc's in the tricopters I know how much they can improve overall flight performance in a multirotor so the afro 30amp esc's will be going on the v-tail soon. Ive got a handful of flights on the v-tails and haven't spent much time on this one but have decided v-tail quads are pretty cool and fly more to my liking than x-style quads and are somewhere between a x-style quad and a tricopter in flight characteristics... Not quite the best of both worlds but a nice blend without compromising either design to much in one package.

Just a quick flight to check some changes to kk 2.0 board and the airframe.

Trying out v-tail quads more,it still needs tuning but i like it better than x style quads. Still prefer tricopters overall for fun flying and acro.

Tried 4s to see how the afro esc's would hold up,90 degrees out and they were warm after the flight but not hot or anything. So far no issues with the BEC powering the savox digital mg or a hs 65mg but time will tell. I'll probably order more for the v-tail quads im messing with.

Nice to finally fly with flashed esc's. The tricopter felt smoother, more precise and more locked in overall without changing anything else. Upped the gains on the kk 2.0 board when i got home and will fly it over the weekend when i have time again but installed another set on one of my other tricopters as well and will be ordering more.

Tricopter With AFRO 30amp ESC's (4 min 30 sec)

Should have better performance overall since esc's also act sort of like servos and handle pitch and roll etc on multicopters. Should fly even better and feel more locked in once I install the AFRO's. Cell count, motors, props etc will all be the same as in this video so the next flight with the new esc's and nothing else changed should be a good indicator of before and after performance using flashed esc's. Looking forward to flying the afros this week.
