I am planning on being in the area of Earlam ( Des Moines) for a couple of days starting around June 10th. Going to try and bring a plane or two with me. Would be great to hook up with some fellow r/c fliers while I am there and see if I can keep from breaking anything!

I am uploading a couple of pictures now from one of the twisters we had yesterday. This one hit the airport in Seminole.

As many of you have I am sure seen there is a sticky in the electric airplanes forum about the 2nd annual Dust Bowl Fly In.

It is a long thread and I know a lot of people may not feel like reading the whole thing.
A short version is that we hold a Model Airplane Fly in with all power sources welcome.
There is also going to be some full size aircraft there. GREAT BBQ! And several flying events.
We also will be selling fly in merchandise and raffling off prizes.
All profits are donated to the National Multipile Sclerosis Society to help find a cure for MS.

We are in desperate need of help. This need covers many areas. Prizes for the raffles, Cash to cover at least part of the expenses, Warm bodies to help man the event. And many many other areas.
The Fly In takes place September 10th,11th and 12th. With the main day being the 11th.
We also plan a short service to mark the time of the attacks of 9/11.

Please help in any way you feel you can!

It looks like my building days are about over. If not already over. I am having a terrible time now getting things done. Building is getting much harder and at times has lost its appeal for me.
Even covering ( even though I am not that great at it) which I always liked to do. Is getting tough to do and have it look presentable.

What used to take me a few minutes to do now takes days or even weeks to do.
I am going to finish up what I have in process now. And when they are all done. I am going to have to take a hard look at giving up building for good.

With the type of MS I have when you loose something it is for good. So if I stop building it will be permanent. Not something that is a pleasant thought. But looking more and more likely.

Just this morning I have been working on a wing. And I am going crazy with it. I cannot feel it in my hands and keep dropping it. I cannot cut a straight line using a steel straight edge and an exacto blade.
Kind of hard to do much building or covering with out being able to do that.

Time will tell for sure. But as of right now it looks like the building part of the hobby is just about over for me. After over 40 years.

I am not giving up flying yet. But even that I know does not have too much longer to go.

If you enjoy this hobby like I have over the years. TREASURE it! Every moment of it. It may not last for ever.

DO IT WHILE YOU CAN!!

One day a woman's husband died, and on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of their bedroom, the wife was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't "anymore".. No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, no more "just one minute." Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return before we can say good-bye, say “I love you.."
So while we have it, it's best we love it, care for it, fix it when it's broken and heal it when it's sick. This is true for marriage.....And old cars.... And children with bad report cards, and dogs with bad hips, and aging parents and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.
Life is important, like people we know who are special... And so, we keep them close!
Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know you love them?
I was thinking...I could die today, tomorrow or next week, and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that needed rekindling or three words needing to be said.
Let every one of your friends know you love them. Even if you think they don't love you back, you would be amazed at what those three little words and a smile can do. And just in case I'm gone tomorrow

If you are able bodied be grateful. And if you are able to. Donate to a cause that helps those who are not.

My MS is taking a turn for the worse. It has brought more and more to mind what is going to happen. And that it may not be far off.

And I know there are many others facing the same thing I am. And much worse.

I have been active all my life. Did a lot of things. Flew my hang glider. Raced a stock car and did well.
Rode motocross.
Went hiking and bike riding. Had a blast. These things all have one big thing in common. I will never be able to do any of them ever again. I am truly glad I had the chance to do them. And that I took advantage of that and went for it.

Now I have the challenge of staying active in the hobby. That is becoming more and more challenging. And I know that building will soon be a thing of the past for me. I am not completely resigned to giving that up just yet. But it will not be long. What would have taken me a few minutes before now takes hours and some times days to do.

I can still fly. But even that is changing. And I know one of these days I will be down to watching others fly their planes and talking.

But again I am glad I have been able to enjoy the hobby for so long. See so many changes happen. See the hobby grow and mature.

So please. If you can help someone get started. Do it. If you can help someone fly who might not be able to otherwise do it. You will be glad you did!

And if you can donate to MS research or other cause that helps fight a disease that affects people's lives so much. Please do!

Be grateful for what you can do now and make the most of it. All too soon and so easy it can be gone for good.

We are dealing with the beginning of a winter storm now. Mainly ice and freezing rain so far. Supposed to turn to snow. We are expecting the power to go out.

So if I am not online for a few days it will because we have lost power. There is ice all over the trees now. Freezing rain is coming down steady.

We are hoping here that it does not get as bad as they say it will!

Everyone in the path of this storm stay inside if you can! Stay warm and stay safe!

I have 10 sheets of hi impact styrene plastic I need to sell. It is 1/16" thick and white. It is 12" x 18".
I will take $25.00 for all of it. I will ship but that will be at buyers expense.
I would also be willing to trade it for an equal value of plastic in clear that is 1/32" thick.

I was reading this story on CNN.com and thought how wonderful it was for people to do this. Much more effective then Uncle Same would be able to do!.

Check it out. There is a link in the story to the organization it talks about.

Due to finances I may be going off line in the near future. If that does happen it may be for a while. I will do my best to stay in contact. But it might be a while before I can post again if I do go offline.

Not leaving the hobby. Just have limited resources and have to prioritize!

I don't mean to. One of the joys of progressive MS is that when you have a bad day it tends to not go away. Lately I am having some less then great days.
When things get to feeling worse or I have more problems doing things it is here to stay. I won't improve. Some times this gets me down. Then of course a crash does not help that!

I will adjust and my mood will improve even if my physical situation will not.
This is one of the reasons I wanted ( and still want) to do the Fly In and donate to MS research. It won't help me. But it just might help someone else! And that is a great thing to me. I would not wish this on anyone.

Time will tell how much longer I can fly and what kind of planes. But I will as long as I can!

Thanks for reading and I hope this makes at least a little sense!

And maybe I shouldn't now but here goes anyway.. As most who know me already know and those who don't will now I have MS. Multiple Sclerosis. Known by those who have it as the MonSter.

Well over the last week or so mine has been progressing. And when you have the type I do. Progressive there is no remission. There is no getting better. When it gives you more or something new to deal with it is not going away.

For me that means the pain has increased again. And it is getting harder to do things. We all take so many things for granted. The alarm goes off and we hop out of bed. Grab some coffee and a bite to eat and get on with our day.

But what if one morning you can't just hop out of bed? For me that is a thing of the past. I can get out of bed with out help. But hopping is sure not part of it!
When I pick up my coffee I have to decide which hand is safer to use. I don't enjoy dropping hot coffee on myself! Even though if it hits my leg I won't feel it. Numbness is a good thing at times.

Then when it is time to drive somewhere ( I won't even get into the fun of showering and getting dressed!) I have to decided how much I really want to go somewhere. Or if I really need to. Just simply turning the steering wheel hurts.
When I get where I am going I slide out of the car and hobble in and do what I need to. Yes even going to a hobby shop is not as fun as it used to be!

If it were not for some understanding and caring people I would not be in...Continue Reading

Well we are in the process of cleaning and painting our new (to us) house. So this will slow down my building and posting for a short while. The upside is that I will have a much bigger and better shop. It won't take too long. And I will work on the projects I am involved with as much as possible during this time.

Just a heads up top let people know everything is fine. Just a move going on!

In the past I did a good bit of building for others. I am thinking of doing that again.
With my situation with the MS there is one thing I have more then anything else... Time!
And building is good for keeping my mind and hands working. Not to mention it would help to make it possible for me to be more active in the hobby again.

Not sure how much interest there would be. But who knows?
I would not be looking to make big money at it. Basically finance some models and stuff is all.
I would be happy to hear anyone's thoughts.
