Its a big boxed- balsa framework skinned in EPP.

All the pieces are finally here and now I've converted a portion of my workshop into what I'm calling "Studio PA".

When I was asked to do a comprehensive build video on the Addiction XL by the awesome folks at Precision Aerobatics... it seemed the perfect opportunity for me to make a few new investments ie...New Sony HD camcorder, lapel mic,portable studio lighting setup, new tripods
...and 3 fresh airframes + a new iPAs drive for my KMX

So over the next few weeks I hope to crank out something really top notch. This was a dry run only. I plan to begin filming tomorrow night after making a few changes. Let me know what you think

I am extremely blessed and humbled to have been invited on as a team pilot for PA.

From the moment I first laid eyes on my first PA plan, the Addiction X what would become my first balsa aerobat/3D plane, I knew they were special. I had this feeling that the planes were more crafted than produced. I knew I was buying something worthwhile and was completely relieved that it flew so predictably. What a great plane to fly no matter what your doing.

Whats Coming:
I'm excited, keep an eye out for a full build video of my Addiction XL in the coming weeks. I will take the viewer through the entire process to demonstrate that these planes are extraordinarily well built, go together perfectly out of the box, and are completely stress free to fly.

I had a nice tail-hook until someone permanently borrowed it (after I forgot it) and now I cant get in touch with the guy who made it. I really like that device but it had a few problems problems I came to learn after owning it.

1.The tail hooks only wrapped about 3-4" over the top of the stab.The real deficiency I saw, was the plane could roll slightly backwards while flipping the prop and become partially or completely unhooked. You had to pull it forward into the crook of the hook after each flip.
2. Holding the rear stabs isn't enough, a bigger plane can pull them right off.
3. you could not fully deflect the elevators or rudder as it would strike the hook
4. It was all black and lying in the ground was easily overlooked and forgotten

I find simple is usually better. So i built my own from welded round bar, eyelets, and 3/8 woven rope.
9" spike keeps it in the ground and with the rope draped across the tail the load is spread across not only the stabs, but also the root of the rudder and top of the fuse where its strongest. so much much less likely to break the plane in an attempted escape.
The rope is woven red and white so it stands out on the grass.
When ready to taxi out you can just un-drape the rope with one hand, keeping the other on the tail or radio

I tested it today and it held my DLE 55 equipped gasser just fine at full throttle. With the spike at a sleight rear angle, it did not budge.

Anyone have any feedback on this design?
I have lots of spare material if anyone wants one?

The top arc is drawn with the servo connected to the Flap channel.

The bottom arc is drawn with the servo connected to an aux.

All end points for both channels were maxed out and the flap travel is set to 100% within the flap menu (its max on that screen). Subtrims are set at 0

So I don't see a way to milk any more throw out of it using the radios flap menu, it appears to be missing half its potential arc when using the flap menu.
In this case guess I wish to have the servo resting at one end of its arc on flap position 0 (flaps retracted) and traveling fully to the other end of its arc to stop on flap position 2 (flaps deployed).

Is there a way to do this using the flap menu? I can accomplish it with through mixing but will have to create additional mixes to increase elevator with each step of flaps, something that the flap menu input screen handles nicely.

10/15/13 Update
Finally sealed it all up. Vtx is on the bottom of the tray, the GPS cup shown below was removed for space issues. I used a 12" sma extension instead of the 6"- I run 1.3 and mounted the antenna further aft. If anyone needs one I have 3 extras now.
have flown it several times since with only minimal changes to gains, no issues noted, hover was solid and locked. Mine is a pig with lots of stuff in it so it seems a little sluggish, but i'm pleased so dar

8/20/13 Update
Had to re arrange the internals. removed the 3d printed GPS shield as it took up too much space, also had to re organize the layout. No room for a vertical tx mount as it conflicts with my dji OSD which now has to lean on its side to go in.
TX is currently on the bottom of the e-tray, hope the extension reaches it. Also couldnt get lock on telemetry GPS...cant imagine I have too much crap in there blowing it out or anything....
Got her maiden flight out of the way with Qh20suggested V2 gains, flew ok may require some tweaking on slow rudder turns it flew away from GPS location by about 10' in an arc. Will install breather tonight, seal her up and do the dry pressure test then its off to the pool for some float work.
