This flight was with the BigAss ( Big Assassin) flying wing. It carries 30,000mAh/3s. Running out of power was not going to be an issue. I ran into video quality degradation caused by the low elevation at long range. 2200ft at 15 miles = about 1 degree elevation. I would have needed to be at 5000ft+ to continue with better video quality. I didn't want to burn that much power, at that distance, on a maiden long range flight.

This trip was a very close call as I misjudged how much power would be required for the return trip. On all my previous long runs the return has been pretty much a fast downwind, downhill coast. This time the lift just wasn't there, and I had to frugally manage the motor usage. I snuck back home with a completely depleted 3s pak. Unfortunately something went screwy with the DVD burner, so I missed recording the max distance and turnaround, but the flight summary at the end tells the tale.

Virtually all of my FPV flights have been made at slope soaring sites, as I am most comfortable with that mode of flying. It has the advantage of simplicity, and long duration flights can be made with little effort or resources.
An added bonus is the natural beauty of most of the places I fly. Coastal areas change with the seasons and wind conditions, and the lighting differences from season to season gives the ocean different colours.
Sure beats the hell out of paddock bashing or flying club circuits!
My goal is to revisit all of the sites that I used to hang glide at, back in the '70s, 80's and 90's.
My current list of FPV planes include 2x 2.4m motorgliders, and an as yet unflown 2m Thunder Tiger Piper Cub. This was bought cheaply needing some minor repair, and is just waiting on RVOSD Gen 5 to become available. I intend it to be my long range platform.
