You know, I've never actually been one to blog, but after being a member here for so long, I figure it's time to take advantage of this neat feature!

The RC hobby has been near and dear to my heart for as long as I can remember. I remember when I was about 10 years old I saw an ad for a Cox 2 channel plane in the Sears toy catalog (this would be about 1976). I remember just having to have one! I had played with the toy remote controlled cars back then, but they were usually just of the wired variety, but the idea of making a vehicle do what you wanted it to was fascinating. I could only imagine how much fun it would be to have an airplane that I could zoom all over the skies with. That dream would have to wait, though, as the planes in those days were just way too expensive for my folks to get for me.

My first real RC plane was a Cox, though. It was a single channel glider that I received for Christmas in 1981. It didn't fly well, but my dreams of RC flight were not stymied, by any means. I mowed lawns and did whatever chores and errands I could do to earn money and finally saved enough to get a Circus Hobbies 4 channel radio in 1982. It was so archaic by today's standards as it was AM and didn't even offer servo reversing! My first plane with that system was a Balsa USA Swizzle Stick 40 with a Fox 40 that was given to me by Duke Fox himself (it had a small flashing flaw that kept it from hitting the retail market).
