So it's been a while but I have been busy redoing QTipToo.8 from scratch.
Why you say. Well as fun as it was it just wasn't "right" it was too everything. Too twitchy [yah pids could have helped], too small, too scary with the APM [not enough umph for all these motors], and too sitting on the bench because of all the above.
So I set out to remedy all this.
How you say?
Longer booms and a RTFHawk.
I know it doesn't sound like much but omg it is. IT IS!
Because the booms are longer the wires no longer worked and add to that I decided to run all the motor wires through the boom so I had to lengthen 24 wires by over a foot.
Here's the longer booms
I didn't HAVE more than 24 feet of 16 AWG Silicone wire so I had to order it and most of it came from HobbyKing which means WAITING FOREVER even though I ordered from the US Warehouse. Then most of what I wanted was backordered. Typical.
Some came from Ebay which got here a lot faster than HK. Again typical.
So I had to unsolder 24 bullet connectors and solder on 24 new wires.
I tested with 3DR Radios and it does work well.
The mapping is slow as dirt at first as this app is running the PI to its ragged edges. 100% cpu. But once you zoom in and wait for the app to respond again
it seems to be working well.
I'm going to turn my little PI into a ground station
I guess I'm going to go ahead and document my retro fit of my Quad.
My original quad "QTip" was lost and a bunch of great peeps banded together and replaced it for me. So QTipToo was born. She flew great and I had a bunch of fun with it until one day she decided to flip over and crater breaking all kinds of stuff. I was pretty bummed out really.
After weeks of saving up for new parts I put it all back together and it flew fine, but it never felt exactly the same so I decided to do a little upgrading.
Originally it had a F450 clone frame on DJI arms running crappy dji 920kv motors and HK 30a ESCs [SimonK]. It was run by a APM Clone called the ArduFlyer 2.5.2 with an AVDome Kit and a CN06 Plus GPS from Kendall over at UAVObjects.com. Pretty awesome bit of kit all in all.
....... more to come ...........
Still waiting one quite a few parts to have enough to fully build, but in the meantime, I'm adding a few pics of what I have done so far.

Started working on my little power distribution board. Because there is so little room inside the base of the Turnigy Talon v2 I had to get a little creative.
Add to this that not only are there 4 sets of leads that barely fit in there, now there are 8 sets of leads. So what was I to do?
