Metal inserts specifically designed to be pressed into plastic.
High quality stainless steel machine cap screws. #2-56 thread. Various lengths for different holes in the 9x.

backplane after all is said and done. Washers are required for these 4 screws only because the holes are a little larger. I noticed on BOTH my radios, there are 5 holes but only 4 screws. I'm assuming they're all like that and I left the 5th alone.
Here's a look at the front body with the inserts all in place. I've highlighted the inserts with circles. Green circles were easy to drill; orange circles took some care; the red circle represents the post that is easily damaged.
