Hooked on Twitter. I guess I really didn't understand what Twitter is. I thought it was another social site for teens, but it's not. I'm using it to get quick updates from my local weather, CNN, and, of course my favorite RC people and sites. Quite often a retailer will have a special announced only on Twitter.

Very seldom do I ever build more than one of the same plane, This is either 4 or 5 of the Nutballs, I've lost track. An interesting project, using a set of lights from ebay designed for a cabinet lighting system. It came with 2 meters of RGB led strip lights, the programmer, a 12V wall wart and a remote control. The light system weighed in at about 8 oz, but stripped down to 1.3oz. The way I have it set, the lights cycle through each color solid for about 15 seconds each, then blink through each color, then fade through each color and then repeats - pretty cool in the air. The pictures were taken with overhead lights on.

Here's some pictures of my 16" Nutball on floats. I built this specifically for the Spektrum Lake at the JR Indoor Festival we'll see how it works on water. Power is the 10g Hobby City motor and it has plenty of power.

I think I must be one of the few modelers who didn't have a slow stick in his fleet. I got the kit from Radical RC along with a few of their laser cut accessories. The best of which is the adjustable motor mount that lets you adjust both down and right thrust. That, and some new wing supports that allow 55 deg of dihedral. The dihedral was inspired by a slow stick flown by Gary Wright at SEFF. However, there was also a fun fly plane out of KY called the Pro Trainer which had the same amount of dihedral and was a kick ass fun fly plane.

The increased dihedral changed the Slow Stick from what it was designed to be into a real acrobat. Snap rolls are outrageous and yet it still slows down to float around just inches off the ground if that's what you like.

Just finished up the Nutball kit from Budget RC. I've scratch built a couple of these in different sizes, but for the price, the kit is hard to beat. All the bevels are done for you and resulted in perfect dihedral joints. I particularly liked the way the fuselage/canopy/vertical stab are all one piece and insert from the bottom into slots in the wing.

Haven't had a chance to fly it yet, but I'm sure it will perform like all the others. It's 6.7oz, with 2 HS 55s, PH 10esc, 1500Kv Blue Wonder and a 2S 800mah pack.

Took longer to paint than to build.

Here's my latest, the Nifty designed by davereap and the plans are available in the scratchbuilt forum. Mine is 27 x 13.5 since I had a piece of 27" depron needing a home. Since some people mentioned a climb under power, I raised the thrustline slightly above the centerline. Mine flew immediately with no trim required, and no reflex or tendency to climb under power. Used the cheap Towerpro 2408-21 we're using for combat and a 3S 1000 Dualsky pack. This plane fly absolutely rock solid, both upright and inverted.

Well, Wed came and went and no flight, been dealing with house stuff, air conditioning problems etc. Finished her up this afternoon. Of course, the weather is miserable and the maiden will have to wait until tomorrow.

Should be interesting. The picture of the bottom shows how the front surfaces are mixed to the tail. Crossing the control rods makes the right canard go down when the left elevator goes up and vice versa for the left canard. Because it's elevons and the opposite sides drive the canards, both move opposite the elevators for pitch. I've dialed in 50% expo for the first flights.

I've made a few mods to the mini jar. This one is 11.5" wide by 14" long. I've also added some coupled surfaces in front and thanks to Bob Braun managed to come up with a linkage scheme that won't require any additional servos or mixing.

The elevators (canards?) in front will move with the elevons in roll and go opposite the elevons in pitch. The rudder will move opposite the rear rudder.

I expect to have it in the air by Wed 10 Jun.

This is another Fidgit being built by one of my flying buddies. He lengthened the fuselage about 2 inches and the span an inch or so. Hmmmm, always a lesson.

Gary Pierson, who painted my Osiris, encouraged me to try airbrushing. Unfortunately I've found another expensive hobby . The Fidget has a 10g motor, 3 - 3.7g servos, a 2S 120mah Hyperion pack and the Spektrum 6300 recevier. Very nice flying plane, although on the next one I'm going to try lengthening the fuselage some.

The Pizza Box I painted for one of my flying buddies. Not too bad for my 2nd attempt at airbrushing, unfortunately the picture really doesn't show the orange/yellow/red fade in the flames well.

Put the maiden flights on my Osiris this morning. What a beautiful plane. I'm amazed at the slow flight capabilities. It has a great locked in feeling. First F3P plane I've built that really didn't need tweaking.

My Club, the Springfield (OH) Model Airplane Club (SMAC) is going to try our hand at streamer combat in the spring. We're restricting the motor to the Tower Pro 2408-21 (or it's re-badged equalevents (BP etc) because there's already a group in Muncy IN and another in Chicago IL using this motor.
