Today was High Sierra RC Club's Roll Out Party / Chili Feed located at the beautiful and challenging Pony Express Airpark. Excerpt from the official event flier:

"Its that time again. You Rollout your winter projects and prove to the world you haven't been "fibbin" about all the work you've been doing since last flying season.
The Roll-out is for new aircraft, or newly repaired aircraft. Bring your creations and/or recent modifications."


Chili was provided my "The Mr. T" and was absolutely delicious!

Attended the Reno Air Races today, and what a great day for my oldest boy Wyatt who turned 3 years old yesterday. First he got to draw the winning ticket for the T-6 Texan ride, then he sat in 4 racing aircraft including Fridays Sport Class Silver winner Ernie Sutter and his Lancair Legacy "Jus Pass'n Thru" race #66. Ernie and his crew were incredibly kind and even let Wyatt ride on the winner's fire truck after the race in front of the entire flight line, pits, and grand stands. Thanks Ernie!

Of course Voodoo, Stega, Czech Mate, and the Rear Bear were exciting to wach, but you almost come to expect that type of performance. Its the Formula 1 and Sport classes that blew me away. Jeff LaVelle and his Glassair III "Race 39" set a new record at 409mph. Sitting on the ground it looks great, but you couldn't tell for looking that it would eat up a stock P-51 with ease.

Maybe I'm biased being a Dassault employee, but the Falcon 900LX was the best demo of the day.

Headed back out on Sunday for the finals, can't wait!

My 18 month old son flying my Techone Venus, sorta. Beautiful day in Sparks NV (Reno). Ran two batteries through then handed off to Wyatt to show my his moves.

I've been sent to the Flight Safety International Learning Center in Wichita, KS for the Cessna Citation 560 V, Ultra, Encore and Encore Plus Initial training. As per my companies requirements to remain a Cessna Authorized Service Center, we must have a certain number of hours of training from Flight Safety. I was selected, signed my one year contract, and before I knew it I was on CRJ headed for Wichita.

First week went well, and I aced the first exam. Although I've been working primarily on the Citation 500 series (500, 550, 560, etc) now for a couple years, there's a surprising amount that I didn't know, especially when it comes to the changes the airframe experienced when it was upgraded to the Encore and Encore Plus with bigger 535 engines, trailing link gear, and Kollsman pressurization system, just to name a few. Its a great facility and I'm very impressed with the knowledge and resources available to us.

After just a couple days of being here in Wichita, and realizing that many of my normal extracurricular activities simply are not possible here in Wichita, I got the R/C itch. I headed down to Hobbytown USA (after driving halfway to KC on a toll way, stupid GPS), I pick up a Blade mSR RTF. I've been reluctant to get a Spektrum system, as I'm a FASST kind of guy. But for indoor stuff, what the heck. After about 3 minutes of set up and flew it for the first time in my hotel room. WOW!!! Awesome! I can't believe I've been missing out on this new generation of micro planes! Now I'm in the market for a DX6i so I can have a whole fleet of these little guys. Just one complaint though, the darn thing is too stable! Its going to ruin me when I get home and fly my EXI-450.

Our monthly Fun Fly competion was held today at the Grand Juction Modeleers flying club field in Grand Junction, CO. The fun fly is a competition that involves three events per month. Each pilot score is recorded and added to their year to date total. At the end of the year, prizes are handed out to the winners.

Today my father, Phil was the Fun Fly cordinator. This is his first time cordinating a Fun Fly, and he has volunteered to cordinate next years events as well.

1st Event: Timed Fly. Draw a number, 30, 60, 70, 80, 90, or 100. This number represent the number of seconds you are going to fly for. No electronic timers allowed. Time starts when your wheels leave the ground, time ends where they touch. Closest one to his drawn time wins.

2nd Event: Spot Roll Out. Climb your aircraft to a comfortable altitude. Pass over the field in an upwind direction and cut the throttle. Dead stick to the runway, land, and try to roll up to the "X" with adding power. Closest wins.

3rd Event: Drag Race Queen: Set your aircraft in the box drawn on the runway. Time starts when the wheels leave the ground. Fly around, land, and put on one of three ladies items. A wig, a slip or a bra. After your item it on, you must run out the the plane, set it in the starting box, and go around again. Repeat until all three items are on. Shortest time wins.

I've decided to give this blogging thing a try, so here it goes.

Took the day off from work today, and decided to do a little flyin. Headed up to our club field, and just about the time I got the Spatha Jet in the air the rain hit. We called it a day and headed to Mom and Dad's for some lunch and front yard flying.
My parents live in Palisade, CO. This small town located on the Western Slope is nestled at the base of Grand Mesa, the world's largest mesa. It's world famous for its peaches and becoming more and more popular for its vinyards. At an elevation of about 5000ft msl, you'd think it would be a little cool, but temperatures can sore over 100 degrees in the summer in the high colorado desert. Despite the temperature extremes, its a great place to live, and I'm lucky to have been raised there.

Here are some photos of the front yard where we fly. Dad's got his trusty Slow Stick and I've got my EFlite Cap 232. I know Dad's known for being anti-ARF but he caved in on the SS, and I don't think he regrets it. The area is big enough to fly airplanes up to 2 lbs You have to stay on your toes to dodge mail boxes, trees, houses, etc... There have been a lot of test flights, crashes, successes, and memoring in this front yard. Its the birth place of our electric movement.
