A New RCGroups.com Feature - Places

Our new "Places" feature allows you to browse our database of more than 5,600 RC related locations and more!

And best of all, each place has its own forum!

At the top of each page on RCGroups.com, you will notice round circles with images in them.

I’m excited to announce that RCGroups.com has had some major updates!
Our techs and graphic designers have been hard at work in the RCG lab to make the world’s largest and most active RC site even better.

Here is a rundown of the new features:

Channels
You may have noticed the new channels at the top of each page.
Click on these to view genre-specific RC channel pages.

Each channel has:
- reviews
- articles
- news
- classifieds
- cool photos
- recent videos
- forums
- popular threads
- build logs

Navbar
- The navbar was redesigned in our new style.
- Any links you don’t see in the navbar can now be found in the new “More” section.
- The login form is now in a drop down menu in the navbar.
- Private Messages are denoted by an image of an envelope with green dot over it. This is found next to your user name on the user menu navbar section.

Side Bar
- We added our partner site, RCHeliResource.com, to the side bar.
- Now you can view daily RC heli news from our home page!

Attachments
- Images and attachments can now be filtered by type (image, file, all).
- The video and image light boxes have been redesigned.
- “Show Attachments/Images in this thread” can now be grouped by date or user.
- Recent attachments page was split up into Recent Photos and Recent Files.
- Images can be filtered by type in the thread gallery and recent attachment pages.

The New RCGroups.com Tablet Page!

The RCGroups.com tablet page is a free interface for all mobile devices! You can access the RCG tablet portal with any device, from an iPad to an Android. Use any mobile device or even use your home computer to check it out!

This dynamic portal gives you access to multiple sections of RCGroups.com that are updated every 30 minutes.

The Tablet page is loaded with features and uses a "swipe and click" navigation style.

With our new tablet page, you can view:

- multiple RC channels
- recent photos
- recent classified ad listings
- popular threads
- recent stories from our highlighted forum sections
- the latest videos posted to RCG
- extra-high resolution graphics

The Tablet page is best viewed by logging on to RCG from your mobile device.

We all know how hot the multirotor segment of the hobby is right now so RCG has decided to expand the multirotor section!
There will be a new section called "Aircraft - Electric - Multirotors."
It will have 3 forums:
- Multirotor Talk
- Scratchbuilt Multirotors
- Multirotor Electronics

Use the report button to let us know of any posts that need to be moved and enjoy the new forum sections!

You can't stop the threads on RCG! They just keep growing and growing. I feel like I was just blogging about how we had over 1.5 million threads the other day. I noticed that we have already blown past 1.6 million threads! That is a lot of RC related tech information, videos, photos, fun and fellowship in one place! Thanks to all our users who create the content that makes RCGroups.com great!

The RCG coders are always hard at work, and sometimes they slip one by me. I was looking at the Maps page today and saw something new in the Tools list called "Find Users Near This Place." Now you can find like-minded RC enthusiasts that are located near the Maps location on which you've clicked. Very slick! I have uploaded some screen shots to help you find this feature and see what it does. Thanks to the RCG coders for this cool new addition to the site!

1. Click on the Maps button.
2. Click on a location.
3. Click on the "Tools" link.
4. Click on the "Find Users Near This Place" link.
5. BAM! Now you have even more RC possibilities!

Our Maps page is growing every day! I'm proud to announce that we now have more than 3,000 locations! Here is a list of some of the things you can find on the Maps page:

- Boating Sites
- Car Tracks
- Flying Fields
- Hobby Shops

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!
Did you know when you find a place on our map you can also:
- get directions to that location
- check the weather at that location
- get a link to that location (if provided)
- find other users that are close to that location
- find Google results for that location

All this comes in handy when you are going to out to do your favorite RC activity but it also comes in handy for your club events.

So the next time you are looking for a place to fly, boat, drive or buy be sure to check our Maps page and if you're having an event be sure to add your location and use it to help others find all the information they need to make it a success!

The Maps Page

In December I was excited to announce that RCGroups.com had over 20 million posts. This morning I noticed that RCG has now exceeded 21 million posts! That is a lot of posting in just a few months! Thanks and congratulations to all of our users. That is a lot of RC knowledge in one place!!

Hey gang, it's your favorite ever-enthusiastic bright yellow transmitter mascot here once again with exciting RCG news!!!!

You've probably noticed that we've switched the site over to the new style. A lot of you have participated in the testing of this new style over the last couple of moon cycles, and on behalf of everyone in the RCG Labs THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME FEEDBACK!!!

For the time being those of you who are emotionally attached to the mid-90s can use the "Classic" link in the footer to switch yourselves back. This won't work forever, unfortunately, because the Labs guys are working on new watchits that just won't connect with the older doodads.

During the beta period a number of people suggested they'd like a widescreen version of the site, so we've made a "Fluid" option for you. Scroll down to the footer and click like you've used the web before.

Note that if your browser width is less than 1200 pix or so, or if you are using a mobile device, you probably won't notice a difference by switching to the "Fluid" style.

I like to watch the RCG Forum Spy; it's like taking the pulse of the site. In January as I watched it there seemed to be more posts than usual. I did some checking, and guess what? In January, we averaged over 10,000 posts per day! That is an official RCG record! Congrats to all of you for sharing all of that great RC info, and congrats to RCGroups.com for breaking yet another record!

I woke up this morning and noticed the header had changed on RCGroups!
The coders in the RCG lab must have been working over-time last night.
To me the new header looks as crisp as iceberg lettuce!

You can still switch back to the "Classic" style by using the style option at the bottom of the page in the new style.

The new header style means the new site style must almost be finished. I can't wait to see what is next!

I was reading the site while charging my battery this morning and noticed two ginormous records were broken by RCGroups!

On January the 9th we had 11,151 posts - that's a record folks!!

Then I noticed on January 6th we had 5,392 users on at one time! The thing to note here is we only measure how many users are on in the last 15 minutes so that is huge!

Since we introduced our Maps page new locations have been popping daily. The Maps page now has more than 2,500 RC related locations. Thanks to everyone that has submitted a location! If your RC field, car track, boating site or hobby shop isn't listed then be sure to get it on there.
