I tested some receivers with my Turnigy i10

Wow - Seems I havent posted on the forums for a while ..

Lets see :

Weather blows hard ATM , we have had some seriously bad weather this winter and lots of wind , an awful lot of wind ...

Went to school again to do my cert 4 in training and assessment ...

Was it 3 weeks ago we had a nice day , and I flew 3 of my 450's ...

I have been slack , lazy if you will , must be the bad weather , I have 2 heli projects and I should start to do some thing with them ... Like thread locking to begin with .
Its a chore , but needs to be done

Other than that , either or both projects should move rather quickly , and playing with the orange RX ( 3 axis ) can be done indoors ( to see if its capable of holding the tail at least )

Im such a slacker ATM ..

I saw another 450 body on ebay , all of $17 shipped ...

Yeah I had to have it ...

This one arrived slightly worse for wear , a small part of the body broken off and one of the servo retaining arms was rather badly bent ... ( fixed now )

Well , the body had a rough trip , but should still work just fine ... apparently this style of 450 is more stable ( ive heard it said ) hmmm , for $17 im prepared to find out ..

1) Fiberglass body - came with main shaft ,
2) landing gear , main drive cog , and locking collar are from my spare parts

Its good to have spares handy ...

To many spares ?

Well after getting my Orange Rx with 3 axis gyro , I started thinking about what heli to drop the gyro into ? I was on ebay and saw this frame kit , for $15 shipped I figured it was worth a look see ..

Frame came today , and its been bolted together using two sets of left hand frame panels , thats ok , I was planning on doing that myself as one side is cheaper than the other to buy and ship ( Strange but true ) .. + It will make no difference to how the heli works or flies , though a keen eye may pick up on the fact its assembled from 2 sets of left hand panels ..

Came with canopy mounts / servo mount pads / anti rotation bracket and a complete frame ... For $15USD shipped , this will become the X-heli to test the Orange 3 axis gyro Rx ...

I got myself the Orange 3 axis gyro receiver ( spectrum ) as it really is relatively cheap , and as can be seen , its not overly large for a Rx with a built in Gyro .

Now from what I have seen ( youtube ) these sort of work well , and ver1 and ver2 did show some promise , so when ver3 became available , I thought it time to put my money down and get one ..

Now my main goal is to see if it will work ( receiver ) in a 450 helicopter ..
Since these receiver / gyro's were meant for planks ( RC Aircraft ) I want to test it in a flybar 450 , and see if the 3 axis gyro has anything to offer ..

Certainly be interesting to say the least ..

I will see if the Orange Rx/Gyro can hold the tail first ( looks like it will work with a regular Gyro ) , and then with a regular HH Gyro ..

And then see how much Elev/Ail can be dialed in on the Gyro

Oh well , something interesting to do in anyway ..

No1 was sold today - goes to a new home !

Hopefully the new owner will get some thing out of it .. Memories !

Oh well ! But why do I have this urge to buy another 450 suddenly ?

Nothing like a bit of chicken ...

Big risks here :

But why not .. This is my first DIY heli .. Might have to tweak it and make it more responsive ..

Well , I tried to write a guide to help new people to the hobby , the guide is for assembling the 450 helicopter .

There is a sample for you to download , its a much smaller lower quality version of the full build guide .

12.5 meg 79pages cover to cover , 133 images , and $Free

Full Guide =

The guide is primarily for Noobs [ if you are already flying ] you most likely dont need it . And please , this is not a how to fly guide . Simply my attempt to ease any apprehension Noobs may have about the assembly process .

If there is enough interest , the next book might be on Flight Stability :
Setting up the heli to be stable :
Cover such things as the Gyro [ several of them ]
Maybe the 3 axis gyro
Flight stabilizing solutions such as Flymentor
And cheaper options , weighted blades , blade weight , Flybar weights etc, for Noobs of course since experienced pilots dont need help , its us noobs that need all the help we can get .

One of the things I dont understand ?
Why would a beginner set up a heli for 3D ???

Beginners need helicopters to be stable , solid platforms that provide the pilot with as little excitement as possible , once they progress , they can tune the heli to be more exciting [ responsive ]

An overly responsive [ exiting ] helicopter will most likely cause as many crashes as a poorly assembled and set up one [ possibly more ] for those just starting out . And possibly drive the individual away from the hobby , and we cant have that , can we ?

Personally I want to see everyone succeed !
