Video is up from my King 50 attempt last weekend! I think I did well for my first time especially a month before was the first time I tried to choreograph a flight to my custom sound track to match. Video was shot by "DaOldGuy" and big thanks to him! I added the audio track to the video.

Had a blast flying again this year in the Cincinnati IMAC"Burn It" Challenge! Flew 2 contests last year and now 2 this year but moved up to sportsman this year. Sportsman was the biggest class with 10 pilots but the total pilot count was 31 pilots! I came in 5th but I know I got at least (1) 1000 after round 3 but not sure after that. I don't think I zeroed any of the unknowns so I'm happy. I forgot to pick up my score sheets but the results will be posted soon.

I wasn't plan on flying freestyle since I hadn't flown that plane in 2 weeks but they talked me into it. I knew about the touch the ground rule gets you a zero but I totally forgot about it and I realized it after I drug the rudder across the ground a couple feet a few minutes in. Also I think nobody there ever seen a pop-top before and were amazed by it. Everybody saying they never seen that before, what is it called, where did you see it, how do you do it, etc.

After watching intermediate so much I want to give that a try and practice both knowns and uknowns. That should make sportsman easier to fly. I had a great time and overall a very fun event.

This is my 5th flight on the new Blade 130-x but the first flight with the high performance blades without the weighted bullets. It has never been crashed or dropped at all. Basically only 5 flights without any damage or problems.

Toward the end of the flight you can see it started to piro all of a sudden and I pegged the rudder the right/oppposite of the rotation with no reponse. I even wiggled the rudder before it hit and still no reaction. After it hit I noticed one of the tail blades was gone but the bolt holding it was still there. I couldn't find the blade at all and I searched near by the crash site. I think it shot the tail blade then it started to piro and there was nothing I could do. I tried to keep it at zero pitch and hit throttle hold. One grip had the ball break off at the end but the link was still atttached to the swashplate. That could of gone first but I doubt it since the blades looked fine upon impact and the link easily gets binded with only one end attached to swashplate.

Earlier I lost half or one of the canopy mounts that holds the canopy by walking the helicopter from the truck to the bench without the canopy on. So make sure your canopy mounts are secure to the cf rod and not loose! So far the parts I need is new main blade grips, tail blades, and canopy rod.

I guess I need to contact Horizon but they will want me to mail the entire helicopter to them I bet.

edit: also the pin on the bottom of the tail pitch slider broke completely off and is gone. That could of failed in flight then caused the uncontrolled piro.

Had another very fun day! We set a record yesterday for crowd attendance and I'm sure we broke it again today. Last year we raised >$15,000 so I'm sure we beat that since each year we raise more than the last. Had fun flying with Mark Trent and Jeff Williams. Also had fun flying with local talent Josh with helicopters and Michael Hunt with his DA-120 powered Sabach. Also Greg Poppel does a great job announicing and enjoyed the company of Mike Barbee, John Boyko, Jerry Smith, Will Berninger and his wife.

Did the maiden flight of the Bucker tonight! My friend and builder, Cliff was there to see it. It went great and the 2nd flight was even better since I knew it was already trimmed out. It was so neat yet relaxing to fly and everybody at the field was excited to see it fly. I was nervous wreck but sooooooooooooo glad it flew and does great. Now need to put some graphics on it and make it look like the full scale counterpart.

For the first time I tried some slope soaring and flew the parkzone t-28 today for over an hour at Frankfort, KY. The winds were of the of the south at 20mph gusting to 35mph. I powered up at the launch and a couple times playing around, but the motor was shut off at least 59 minutes of the flight. Afterward the 3s 2200mAh pack was still 4.05v per cell for a total voltage of 12.15v! Next time I'll go for 2 hours.

It was a blast and I'm hooked now. It would have not been possible without the help from friends/members of the Louisville Area Soaring Society

I'm using a fairly new Chrome 220mAh 25C LiPo from ConceptRC.com in my brushless mCP-x and it already has more punch than my thunderpower and hyperion lipos which are already broken in.

Setup is a C05M 11,500kv brushless outrunner, 8t pinion, XP-7A ESC, and steve convertor w/reistor to make it a PNP motor kit. Frame upgrades are carbon fiber lower frame brace, micro-heli swash, micro-heli tail motor mount, and Orange KBDD blades.

Didn't want to pay the extra $$$ for the PNP kit from wowhobbies so I just made it myself and soldered it up. I bought most of the components from Astroid Designs:

$24 ~ C05M 11,500 KV short 1mm shaft Brushless Motor

$15 ~ XP-7A 1-2S ESC

$5.50 ~ Carbon lower frame brace .5mm

The only thing I got from wowhobbies was the Steve converter w/resistor so you can plug the yellow wire to the brushed motor connector on the main board if you solder a male plug to it. That was $20 before shipping.

The only things left were a female and male mCP-x battery connector which I acquired from a friend who bought a bunch of those in bulk from an electronics place online.

First I took and old frame missing the front posts and removed all the plastic until the motor would fit like Matt Bockmans frame. I ended up using a Dremel high speed cutter wheel to remove most the plastic followed by a razor to trim it up. Lastly I added the cf lower brace and it was so tight that it needs no glue.

What I did:

I cut the heat shrink off the xp-7a esc then de-soldered the motor leads. I shortened the motor leads to 30cm and soldered them straight to the ESC. I then soldered the mCP-x battery connector to the power input on the xp-7a. I plugged in a servo tester and powered up the xp-7a to verify I had the motor spinning the correct way and luckily it was correct the first time.

I went to my first scale contest with two local club friends. The event was held by SIRCM club but hosted at ORVRCF flying field. It was only an hour drive away and it was our first contest.

We all competed in fun scale novice but we helped each other out and took all advice with guidance from experienced contestants. I some how got 1st place with my 3dhs 87" Extra 300SHP which I just maidened a week ago!
