After about 5 years of NO flying RC my son and I are getting back into it. I've been keeping up with some if the FAA stuff but not much. I just got my AMA membership renewed and was surprised to get my original # again.....20+ years with that number then 5 years with no renewal and I still get it back. I can remember that number better than my cell number! 😂

SO, what are the big changes I should know of as a returning pilot as far as aircraft ID and such!?! Are we jumping through hoops now???

Been some time since I built anything! As most people already know Hodges Hobbies now has a pond! (3-4 acres) A friend of mine brought a glow powered airboat for us to play with. Needless to say I got bit by the bug! I just had to build one! I have practically no mad cash so I got to looking around my shop. I found an old Styrofoam boogie board, an old park 450 motor and speed control and some coroplast. So the wheels went to turning! Here is what I have so far....

Cut and shaped the boogie board to 14w X 20L with an electric fillet knife(worked pretty good just had to go slow)!! Sanded all corners to a radius, built a motor mount from scrap light ply and the rudder from coroplast CF tube and a pushrod. Here's some pics on the progress, I'll post more as I go........Continue Reading

Well I finally Night Maidened the SSX at Hodges Hobbies All Electric Fly In a few weeks ago. What a beauty and joy to fly in the dark! I had no problem at all telling top from bottom, except for when I got too far away and too low. I thought it was rolling right and it was actually rolling left. I gave it the wrong stick and caught a wingtip but luckily no more repair needed than one drop of CA. Whew! It scared me bad. I thought I had killed it! I got a few poor quality pics. Some of the other "hounds" got some and if they are any better than mine I'll post them here. We got the HH Fall fly in a week from Friday. If anyone's in the area come on by and fly with us! We'll be there all weekend. Heres the pics........the other lit plane is none other than Jkarpy's (Millennium RC) SSX We had a ball flying both together. Formation night flying HMMMMMM

I've always wanted to build a true 4+ channel night flyer. Met up with James Karpy from Millenium RC just before SEFF 07 and found what I wanted! The SSX! I asked him to make me one but not cover it for SEFF and he happily obliged. So now the work on the SSX Nite Stik begins..... more to come .....

Here are a few pics from SEFF '07 I took w/ my cell phone. Not bad for a cheap LG! I cannot believe that SEFF gets bigger and better every year since it started! If you have never attended, be sure to put it on your list of "Must Attend" events of next year! You won't be dissapointed! ...Continue Reading

Well..I had the scare of my life(literally) Thursday evening March, 1 2007. Americus was hit hard by a tornado. It does really sound like a freight train coming like they say on tv. But you never hear the horn. It just gets louder and louder then you can hear it going away in the other direction. It missed our house by 100-200 yards. Ihad debris from buildings about a mile away in my back yard. We had some minor roof damage ...three holes averaging 1 1/2" in diameter and a piece of 2x4 about a foot long with 2 nails in it that hit with enough force that it actually nailed itself to my roof. And when I removed it there was a complete impression of the 2x4 in thw shingles. WOW A tornado is something you cannot truly describe in words. You have to personally experience it to have any idea of what it is like. This was my first time and I PRAY TO GOD I never have to go through it again! Here are some pics I took walking around my neighborhood.......Continue Reading
