Its been awhile since last buying a UMX plane. I saw a Radian UMX and bought it just to check it out. I am so glad I did, two screws and a charged battery later it was headed skyward.

It flies amazingly smooth even in 10 mph winds. Controls are responsive and the folder prop works great when cutting the power to clean it up for soaring. On the stock battery it can easily get near 20 minutes of flight, that is numerous 300+ climbouts and then soaring to eye level repeatedly. This one is super easy to fly for a inspired newbie aviator young or old and would be great plane for any park or even flying up and down a city block as I do. I am very impressed with this sailplane thus far and look forward to many many more flights with it! Just wanted to share since I havent posted for awhile!

I went out flying with two of my favorites today. I strapped my gopro to the battery hatch on my FMS 1400mm Cessna 182 for a ride along today. Winds were at 17-20mph so it was a little bumpy but the video turned out well. Works well and easy to mount and has about 3/8" clearance from pavement in between all three points of the landing gear. Warm day today I Michigan but turned out to be a nice relaxing day to fly!

I wanted to post a few pics of my Seawind plane I recently converted to ELECTRIC. I bought this a couple weeks ago new with a 61 OS engine in it. That had to go! No nitro touching this bird. I went with a 1650KV inrunner by Align and a 100A esc. Yes its a helicopter inrunner, I mounted it in a GP aluminum large mount and took less than 20 minutes to install. Prop is a 13x8 APC and I plan to use 4S5000 lipos. Those mounts ROCK! The servos in the wing are HS225BB Hitecs and the elevator and rudder are Futaba 3102's. I went with a 9 channel orange rx so once its maidened I can fine tune and mix the flaps for optimum control. This plane is gorgeous and I can wait to get it out to the lake.

No, it doesnt have lights(yet), the stripes on the wing and tails are reflective and jump out at the cameras flash.

Ill keep you posted on flight testing!!!

Most of you now me as Flyin'J but when I am not being a father of four young boys, flying or building I am trucking in my 18 wheeler along the western shoreline of Michigan for a living.

Today started business as usual with sunshine and just perfect weather. Breakfast, kids off to school and a kiss on the way out the door from my wife! I set out for St.Joseph and after my first stop there on the way to Holland my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree as the engine shut down. No clue why but that incident landed me right here at Hagar Shores county Park along the waters edge at Lake Michigan. What a spot!!! I have seen signs for it but have never stopped in. I found a nice quite little piece of paradise nestled in a wooded bluff overlooking Lake Michigan for future picnics and outings with my sons.

So in the meantime Im waiting for a hook to come grab my truck and I will be right down here at the beach daydreaming while on the clock sippin on tea and relaxing

I recently traded a couple airplanes for this. I have been flying it daily for the last few days and I am liking it more and more everytime I throw a battery into it. It flies on 6S and is powered by a Turnigy G46 linked to a Castle Phoenix 80ESC spinning a 13x6 prop. It is very stable and looks very good on the ground and even better in the sky! I changed the stock foam tires out for narrow rubber wheels and it made ground handling much better. I also added a larger tailwheel which helped it steer on the ground.

The detailed covering makes it look really scale but it is that sticky backed covering used on the older Hobbico and Royal ARFs so hopefully I don't get any holes or rash...

The main landing gear vertical struts are functional which was really appealing to me. They have a spring inside and work really well. Now all I need is a few Golden Knight skydivers and I can steal the show. Ill keep you posted on that, in the meantime I am looking forward to a great Memorial weekend flying it!

Picked this up a few weeks ago. Little did I know it would be one of my favorites. It was a hangar queen sitting around since 2002 or so. It has a AXI motor and Jeti 70A esc spinning a 15x4 prop. It looks like a LSA homebuilt airplane and for its size is super lightweight. It features flaps and ailerons and was originally set up to fly on NiCad packs. I flew it on 3S 5000 lipos but I am going to try 4S next time out.

it has HS 85BB servos in it and I added a set of 5" Kavan wheels to have the ability to fly at less smooth airfields that I frequent. The Kavans are very light and really set it off.

I had put it up for sale and after guys started talking it up I had to take it out and give it a whirl. Glad I did! The only thing I was cautioned about was the fact that it does not have struts and NOT to do aerobatics. I fixed that issue since I have the tendency to test the limits from time. I added two 1/16' stainless cables to keep it easy to assemble and give it that true homebuilt look. Also added the "EXPERIMENTAL" decal on both sides!

I was at the Weak Signals show in Toledo where I found this very neat looking body for my Blade 350QX. $75 bucks later and about 2 hours of time here is the result! I love the new look and added CARBON blades that do not require the use of hubs, it flies great and looks super cool! I also have a video I made to show it in flight. I am very pleased with the quality and performance of the Blade 350QX, very good platform for entry level video enthusiasts.

I made this light module to help with orientation while night flying. As anyone that owns a 350 QX knows at night if at low altitude when flying towards you it disappears because the factory lights are on the bottom. Well not mine, not anymore!

I built this mount using the stock cheapo Gopro mount originally included with the Blade 350 and fitted a couple of carbon fiber tubes to it. I added led lights and strobes to the tips to help see it and also to light up anything that may come into its path. The lights and strobe controller can be bought cheap on ebay and and the whole thing can be fabricated in one evening. I used a Turnigy 1000mah 3S lipo which will give you four flights. This mount makes it easy to switch to using the Gopro and back to lights in less than one minute. Have fun with it and hope you make one so you can bug that nosey neighbor, everybody has one of those.....

In my attempt to have a CarbonZ Cub I wanted one that is one of a kind with lights and strobes. Should look really cool sitting on the water when it warms up when in float mode.

I am flying mine on 5S 4500 lipos using a APC 15x6 prop because I just don't think hovering a cub 3D on pontoons over a lake looks very life-like! I am very impressed with everything about this airplane with the exception of the 6" hard foam tires, I opted for Dubro 5" inflatables until my 6" Kavans show up from SIG.

It will take about 2 hours to assemble and have it ready to fly, add 1/2 hour if you bought the optional floats. Easiest floats to assemble hands down!

I also tossed out the rx because you cannot disable the stabilization unless you disconnect the battery once you have activated it. I am using a 9 channel Orange Spektrum compatible rx with two satellites to guide this cub. Anyways I just wanted to show off the lights and I recommend this plane to anyone with the desire to have a large scale foamy!

I had been searching for one of these kits for quite some time now. My friend Rick showed me his Gemini a year or so ago and I ask him everytime I see him "are you ready to sell me that Gemini?" quickly followed by a big NO!

Well I can quit asking him now, I found one NIB last week on RCU for $75 shipped. Never building or owning any Multiplex aircraft I was surprised on how well it was packaged. It got much better from there, the foam requires ca and not epoxy making assembly much faster. I used thick gap filling with kicker. All of the plastic parts fit into the foam parts with super precision. I was able to finish it in around 7 hours start to finish. There were no missing pieces and assembly was a breeze. If you build one apply stickers to top side of lower wing before gluing and the tailwheel was modded slightly because the way I saw it in the instructions I would be working on it later making a fix more difficult. I basically used a ez connector to assure the tailwheel arm would stay connected to the rudder steering horn. There wasnt any other problems encountered.

I used a RcTimer 1120kv outrunner and 30a esc swinging a apc 10x7 prop. The servos are 9g and I added a orange stabilzation unit to test out. This is the first airplane I have tried to use stabilization in so I will keep you posted on how that works out. I also added a 10mm led landing light inside the scoop below the spinner just for kicks!

The plane is sturdy and very light even with a 3s 2200 lipo inside. I can assure you another Multiplex airplane will be on my bench soon as I am very impressed with my first experience I had with Multiplex and their Gemini!

Want to do something other than shoot grainy pictures and video with your Blade 180 quad? Heres a simple DIY skydiver or ordinance drop module. Simply cut a 2" to 2-1/2" x 1" wide piece of thin plywood or plastic such as a credit card and glue a 5gram servo to it like shown. I used hot melt glue. Then remove the crappy camera and using the velcro stap insert the drop module facing downward. Attach a small rubber band to the skid strut. Plug servo lead into the port that the video cam plugs into and adjust servo arm so that when you press the camera button the rubber band slips off the servo arm releasing payload. Add your favorite ordinance or skydiver. Mine has worked everytime with no issues, takes under 10 minutes to build and install. I have been testing its accuracy and my skill locating then releasing above my cats. So far 6 kills and two misses and I have yet to get scratched Enjoy!

As most know the midwest has had a rough winter as the windsock in the first pic will indicate. Subzero temps and SNOW up the wazoo!!! It finally warmed up enough for me to get out to fly my Slow Stick on floats, I built this in December and was able to maiden it three weeks ago at night then it got cold again. It flies awesome and balances perfect with a 3S 2200 lipo. These are great airplanes for snow and water operations, this one has ailerons on it and uses a set of Hobbyzone floats. One fun $125 dollar floatplane! Now its time to warm up and think SPRING!!!

Flies on 3&4S lipos. I added lights to it after a long run trying to sell it with no luck...

Oh well, she is tossed back into the night flyer line up. I soldered together red and white to make the eyes, i cut the foam out of the wing and layed them in sideways. Worked out well! Thanks for viewing.

I have been wanting the Habu 2 but cannot see dropping $3-400 on a foam jet with par performance. I thought the answer might be in the Dynam Meteor with retracts, boy was I wrong!

Let me start by saying I have not flown this yet, according to reviews it flies great...

I recieved a email ad from Grayson Hobby showing it on sale for $159.99 so after doing some searching around I jumped on it. Shipping ran $15 bucks and only took it 5 days to show(much better than the 29 days it took them to get me my DX9)up. I pulled it out and had it mostly assembled in about an hour bur after retracting the gear I wanted to make sure impeller was spinning the correct direction, I applied the throttle about halfway and boom!!!! The impeller decided it wanted to eat its way through the right intake. The damn impeller screw was not tight fron the factory? I turned the hobbyroom lights off and walked away after seeing my new jet laying there with foam chunks all over and a tore up impeller. I guess I am lucky I didnt get hurt or lose some fingers!

Later I filed a claim with Grayson, after 4 days they finally responded, they told me UPS would be picking it up and they would let me know when they would get it and would ship me a new one as soon as UPS had the junk one in their posession. However they didnt??? I caught the Ups man on the third attempt to pick up. After waiting another 7 days I emailed grayson hobby, no response so I had to call them to convey my irritation with them. I bought this PPG from my brother Donny a few days back. He designed and built the gondola a couple years ago. This one has about 50 flights on it using a 45a esc and Rimfire 3536 1200kv outrunner. It flies best using a Seabreeze 62" canopy and 3S 3000mah lipo. Heres the kicker, I want to fly it at night so here we go again. ADDING LIGHTS

I added white lights to the top of the prop ring to light up its red and yellow canopy(works excellent) and then a mix of red, green and white in other places so I know which direction its headed. This thing takes off easily from the ground and can carry a camera if need be. I added 4" inflatable main tires and a 4 blade prop to increase climb a bit. All I need now is warm and dry weather so I can fly it. I cant wait!!!

These are very easy to build but the biggest expense is buying the SeaBreeze parachute. The 62" canopy will set you back about $160 but it is made in the USA so you get what you pay for.....

My friend Joe handed this off to me a few months back, I love rehabing these old Sig Seniors. I recently started rounding up items needed to complete it. It had stock landing gear on it and old electronics inside. It wont see wheels again, it is getting fitted with a set of 36" floats that I used on a V-tail Senior I converted a few years back(its in this blog).

It will also be getting strobes and nav lights, a electric power plant, fresh covering and a twin vertical stab set-up. I plan to recover it with Teal, Cub yellow and silver Monokote. I will be adding flaps or flaperons as it was built originally a four channel airplane. I am trying to keep the weight down on it and when finished should be a beautiful model to fly in the snow and later this year at the lake. I will keep adding pics as I go and hopefully some video when it goes out for maidening.

Currently I am looking for a power 60 sized motor and esc, two rolls of teal covering and a roll of Cub Yellow Monokote. If you happen to have these items for sale or have any suggestions on prop, motor, esc or lipo batteries please let me know. With the removable top battery hatch I added I have plenty of room for a large battery. Thanks for viewing!

Ive had this on the shelf for quite some time. It had a little Cox .020 in it and was never flown. It was built by Mike Brown in the early eighties. The wing was in need of new covering but all else was in great condition. I put a Turnigy 2000Kv motor and a 6a esc in it and used two 5G servos to guide it. I took a break this morning and after a couple hours of work it was ready to go.

The weather was a solid 12 out today with no wind and light snow falling. Great weather for a 3 channel maiden flight here in MI(being sarcastic)..

With a quick flip of the throttle and some left rudder it was up-up and away. It was fast for its size but very stable in flight and slowed to a gentle landing. Next stop, the gymnasium at Clay High School next weekend. Cant wait to buzz it around indoors where it will be WARM!!!!

I dont have a clue who manufactured it but it had no landing gear so I added it for indoor flying. The gear worked excellent. Anyone know who may have kitted this? I was thinking possibly Midwest....

Anyways, just wanted to show off another nitro plane shocked by electric!

This is most likely to be capable of unlimited vertical and and rated 10 G's positive and 9 G's negative. Overkill by GWS standards but I know how I fly. Honestly it started out to be a easy flyer but I always have that thought "what if its not enough?" stuck in the back of my head, so after a couple nights in the shop 2 slow stick kits morphed into one overpowered bipe that is strong enough to withstand crazy aerobatics.

Anyone that has built a brushless slow stick knows the wings flutter at high speed, to get around that I used the extra horizontal stab as the strut connecting the two wings near the tips. The center cabane is actually from a Ultimate bipe .46 size nitro plane. I flattened them so I could bolt it to both carbon fiber booms I used for the fuselage. Amazingly all holes in the cabane lined up right where I needed them.

The powerplant is a EMP 4240/10 890kv swinging a 12X12 APC e prop. I used a Turnigy trust 55A esc and two 22003S lipos will provide the juice. Themotor attaches at all four points of the X mount, top and bottom carbon fuse booms and also on each side using 1/16"x3/4" wide aluminum strip connected to each side of the front cabane strut. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY THIS SET UP IS GOING TO STAY BOLTED TO THE PLANE!!! The rudder and elevator servos are standard sized and there is one 9G servo to move each aileron.

I recently bought a Blade 180QX HD to see what all this quad buzz is about. As most of you know I am a airplane guy and a horrible heli pilot at best. If it has a tail rotor and I have the tx in my hand run fast and hide!

This quad has changed my mind on getting away from rotorcraft the more I fly it. I can actually fly it and look like I know what the hell I am doing. This thing is very easy to fly and has still and video capability included. Video isnt the greatest but you have to start somewhere! I have about 30 crashfree flights on it between my living room and my warehouse at work. It was flown once outdoors in 15 Mph winds the day after Christmas and amazingly it flew well and I didnt feel like I was going to lose control of it. With -11 temps today Ill be sitting right here in my living room chasing the cats while honing my skills. I cant wait to get warmer weather so I can buzz around the neighborhood with it. I am already shopping for a bigger and better one capable of carrying a go pro. Any suggestions???
