This is what we started with -
Views: 368
My son decided that he wanted a rocket shaped car so we drew the shape on top of the block of wood and cut the sides away first. -
Views: 341
Then we used a dremel tool to shape the rest of the car. -
Views: 324
After he sanded it as good as possible he sprayed it with a coat of primer, sanded again, then put a little spackling on it to fill in any low spots -

More sanding -

Finally ready for the first coat of red. -
Views: 350
But first we drilled out the "fire hole" and added some balsa fins. -
Views: 379
After 4 coats of red, there were still a few blemishes to be fixed with spackling.

I cut the top a little short on accident but it holds fine. -

There is a little down and right thrust angle build into the firewall but not quite enough. -

A block of foam holds the battery against the front of the electronics area. -

I had to cut a little bit of the cowl away so the prop adapter would fit. -

Skis on the Super Cub
-
Views: 695
I bought an extra set of landing gear so I don't have to put the skis on the gear every time it snows. I just switch out the entire set of landing gear... much less of a hastle! -
Views: 481
These skis weigh almost exactly the same as the stock wheels so I still have plenty of room to strap a camera on. -
Views: 536
I chose to mount them a little differently than what is described in the included instructions because they just didn't seem to fit right the other way. -

Leave the set screw at a slightly "up" from level position when the plane is setting on the ground so when it lifts off, the skis will tilt upward enough to allow for a smooth landing.

I tape a set under each wing and aim the light at the fuselage. -
Views: 642
I also stick one under the fuselage and point the light in where the 3 holes are. -
Views: 605
Not shown are the lights that I have on the cowl now. They provide a nice landing head light. -

Now just tape it on and point the lights in the right direction and you are ready to fly.

How to Mount a Servo to a Camera
-
Views: 734
I used nothing but rubber bands to hold the servo and wood to the camera. This way, I can easily take it off or make adjustments. -
Views: 613
I used a piece of double sided tape to stick the servo to the wood, then a ziptie to finish it off. -
Views: 624
The foam tilts the camera down so the wing doesn't show. Notice that I stuck some pieces of double sided tape on the shutter button... I couldn't get the servo to trigger it every time so I just kept sticking things on there until it worked. Thi -

A little bit of velcro holds the camera on just fine. -

When I fly it, I usually make sure that the wings are rubber banded on too :-) -

It doesn't take much aileron deflection to make this plane roll nice and easy but smooth. -
Views: 1716
I am not sure how scale the ailerons are but they don't look too bad on this size of wings. -

Nice Clean lines on the bottom. -

Begin by measuring out 16in from the edge of the plastic in the center of the wing. -
Views: 1231
On the 16in mark, measure up 1.25in and 12in back toward the center of the wing. This will give you a 12 inch by 1.25 inch aileron.

Empty electronics compartment... ready for some guts. -

I installed the digital servos that came with my dx-7. It didn't take much more than a little extra foam to make these servos fit nice and snug. -

I reamed out the motor lead whole and stuck the esc in it. The original hole where the ACT was acts as a 2nd air vent now. -
