HHAEFI 2013

In our 229th installment, we have a special guest! Chris Scoggins, the Contest Director for the Hodges Hobbies All Electric Fly-In pops on to share with us a little about HHAEFI and how the event is shaping up. Three of your CrashCast hosts are planning to attend this event, so if you're in the area October 17-19th, plan to drop by and enjoy the RC goodness! Akso in this episode, we give away a couple of Power Distro Boards courtesy of our friend Witespy over at ReadyToFlyQuads. The lucky recipients were Damage and MassiveOverkill.

NEAT 13

In this 228th installment, we talk about upcoming events and Coreman drops in to share his experience at the NEAT Fair this year. Also, our friend sawatt shared pictures that he took while there, so you'll want to check them out (thanks, Steve!). A lot of folks made it to this one this year, and from what I've been told, this event is the "SEFF" of the Northeast! This event just has to make it on my bucket list. LoL

Unicycle Tassels?

In our 227th show, we share what we've been up to, some interesting new stuff that's coming out, some videos, and moving (MOVING?). There's also a little update on the OPQ project, too.

Hey, do you remember how the SlowBipe plane kind of disappeared? Well, I am happy to announce that it is coming back in kit form! If you've been wanting to get your hands on one of these, you'll have a chance very soon!

Oh, and my hopes for getting through this show without any unicorn references were quickly dashed early on in this one (gee thanks, Tim). LoL

The first production run of OPQ (One Piece Quad) Frames are rolling off the machine at a rate of 8 per hour! I should be able to get them all produced this weekend and get them in the mail on Monday for the folks that got in line.

For more information about this project, check out the last few episodes of the podcast!

If you think you may be interested in getting your hands on one of these practically INDESTRUCTIBLE airframes, listen to one of the latest shows and email me at the address I include in every show. Just remember to put "OPQ" in the subject line so it doesn't go to my SPAM folder.

These sporty little frames weigh 6 oz and are "dimpled" with reference marks for mounting your 45mm spaced boards. They also include motor slots for mounting your favorite motor. The landing gear are made simply by screwing in a 1/4-20 nylon bolt into pre-threaded holes on each boom and securing it with a nylon jam-nut (not supplied). This frame has 346mm spacing, making it just right for 8 and 9" props.

My favorite gear for this is the Flip Standard motors or the new Red motors over at ReadyToFlyQuads.com., 9" Gemfan props, either the 16 amp or 20 amp ESC's (the 20 amp ones allow you to use a 4s battery and 8" props), the power distribution board (those dimples are made for that distro board), and the FLIP 1.5 MWC in the new protective case. This gear with a light 3s1300 battery makes this little thing BALLISTIC!

With this frame, it's easy to...Continue Reading

SOMF Wrap-Up

In this 226th installment of our show, we finally get to do a wrap-up of this Summer's main focus - Summer Of Multi-Rotors And FPV. I think it's safe to say that our focus on this one special interest has really hooked all of us and we will, no doubt, have some discussions each week on the subject from here on.

I would especially like to shout out a special THANK YOU to Witespy over at ReadyToFlyQuads. His great products, sage advice, and patient customer support has certainly been the key to all of our mutual successes. If you are looking to get in on the fun, whether you want to do the DIY thing with putting together your own Quad or buy a great-priced turn-key solution, RTFQ should be your FIRST stop!

We've also like to thank Romeo over at MassiveRC. He has pretty much redefined the phrase "gateway drug", as his inexpensive wares have helped to transform "toy grade" products into a true "hobby grade" experience. If you want to try the quad thing out but you're not ready to drop $150+, then you certainly want to consider getting one of his quads. He removes the worries of "Is this a good one to buy?", because if it's on his site, it's going to be a good purchase.

Overall, this little excerise has proved rewarding for all of us and maybe next Summer we will entertain focusing on another single facet of our great RC Hobby.
