This weekend I was very fortunate that I came across a great deal. Parkzone S.E.5a used, but was promised a very clean plane. Guess what, the seller did not exaggerate. She is a beauty.

Shorty after leaving Apollo field to go to my flying field. Hehe...I ran across my Helicopter buddy. He saved me from my first flight....hello Mcfly your ailerons are reversed...whew Disaster averted. The Biplane flies....very scale. I love airframe limitations where you can feel the weight of the aircraft. I fly scale because they look real, I guess I am nuts I want them to fly real...all flaws included. The first flight was exciting and nerve racking. The plane lifted of the ground with ease. I am pretty familiar with tail draggers tendencies and I overcame them with no incident, she is clunky on the ground.

I made not attempts to try anything fancy, just your basic pattern. She inly needed 2 clicks of right aileron to trim her out, nice. After 4 mins i decided my nerves needed a break. I was able to impress my buddy on my landing as I nailed it, very smooth....Wow was what he said. Not bad for the first landing.

This will be my baby as I found out my F4 WIldcat still thrills me, only gripe is I love ROG. The F4 does fit well in my little 2 seater, where the SE5 takes a whole lot of effort to stow away.

(thanks to the RCG member that i got the deal from)

It was a good flying weekend!

CHEERS!

It's funny how therapeutic flying can be. I just came back from the flying field and I am 100x better than when i left.

I kept looking at where my P47 crashed........tree plus hill = no line of sight. I did finally however set a point in the field where i can still bail on a failed landing attempt. I really hope i learned from the crash.

My F4 Wildcat with 30amp Esc and T28 prop is awesome...but the Great Planes Balsa P47 was truly a marvel, i miss the responsiveness of that airframe. I cant wait to put her back together.

Its getting darker sooner which is making my flying window after work smaller and smaller. I did manage to put some LED lights on the wildcat, to help with sunset flying.

Took out the Mig15 i am trying to sell.....i am asking myself....why am i selling it again? I might not be able to do all the maneuvers I want...but the sound and the look of the Mig is truly a visceral treat

F4 has the Eflite Lighting kit, this helps in squeezing every bit of sunlight i can get.

I am thankful for an uneventful flying session. *knocks on wood

So....

I havent crashed in months, I was getting pretty confident with my flying skills. Flying is one thing, but making good decisions is another. I learned that just because you can land, fly some 3d, and have twitch reactions like crazy...that doesn't exempt you from a crash.

I crashed my P47 the same day I maidened her. I had 4 successful flights. Then on a landing approach i was coming in too fast...i tried pulling up when i was already committed. I have enough power to get out of almost any stall but....

The plane rolled left and went behind a tree where i lost visual contact. =( I had no choice but to power down.

my fault....since the layout of the field makes it hard to land against the wind....hard but doable....will practice....and also look for another flying site.

The P47 was great my first balsa, unfortunately my biggest crash to date. =(

....made up my mind...I will rebuild with a new Greatplanes P47 arf

this plane will be babied, like i should have from the start. Only on the best flying days will my new Balsa P47 come out.

Balsa does fly great.

I've only bought Foam models up to this point. Foam offers a sense of security knowing that one can easily be repaired with CA. A deal came up that i wasn't going to let pass up a used Great Planes P47 ready to go, scooped it up quick. Painted and improved some little things. The P47 was in great shape, just needed some of my own customizations to make it mine. Lights will be the last thing I add.
First Flight. I was downwind taxing...slowly eased the throttle to get rolling then gradually increasing. I just wanted to go around....at 1/3 throttle...i gave it a slight more throttle then it leaped off the ground. Wow, this is a surprise. I just did a basic circuit keeping wings level. I was too afraid to even try a loop or roll. She responds well to any commands, its just its balsa and Im chicken.

Landing was great since my other warbird is a belly lander. Came fast since i don't know the stall speed yet. I took off again after going around, had an uneventful flight. Upon landing however the Rudder came loose. The old CA couldn't handle the stress of the dirt landing strip. Some new CA and pieces of tape will insure a more secure rudder assembly.

....just charging batteries now waiting for the afternoon flight window.

This P47 found a good home.
