The (codename) Pi-180 is a fully enclosed frame for a 180 class racing quadcopter.
The objective is to obtain a NICE, VISIBLE, ADAPTABLE and PERFORMING frame, to render drone races more interesting and fun to see.
This is the "son" to the Pi-250 (frozen) project.
Being a smaller vehicle in respect to the original one, it will allow me to reduce testing costs. After this project will take off, I will get back to its bigger brother Ba-250.

After the main version will be completed (for SLS printer), a "home friendly 3D printer" version is planned.
This will actually be a challenge because of the limitations of low cost printers (FDM), but it should greatly help in reducing production costs and let me produce the thing at home and offer a cheaper alternative.

The look of this thing is actually very stocky for a simple reason: I managed to keep the same volumes for components that I used for the bigger brother Ba-250. Yes you read well: you can put the same stuff that you put in a 250 mm frame on this 180 mm frame, including a huge 10 cm long battery and 5" props, a 600 mW FPV transmitter and huge ESCs .
A more slender version of this frame can follow up later, depending on users' requests.

It won't be a cheap frame: 3D printing costs are way higher than cutting a couple of carbon fiber plates, still.
Also, plastic is not more resistant than carbon fiber, so the build will probably result weaker.
On the other side, the fully enclosed design should greatly reduce air drag.
Check the features for more info.

FEATURES

Fully enclosed body
Much like the Robocat, this frame will make the drone much more visible than the actual black carbon fiber ones.
This is the main objective of this project: to obtain a visible, beautyful frame for 250 class quadcopters.
Also, less air drag, more win.

Multipart - 8 pieces
- 4 arms
- bottom (base)
- core (locations for components)
- top cover
- front
This will allow the user to only replace a component when it breaks.
It also allows to change a single part for different purposes.
In example the first modification planned is a front plate with mount for GoPro like camera.

The (codename) Pi250 is a mostly closed frame for a 250 class racing frame quadcopter.
The objective is to obtain a NICE, VISIBLE, adaptable frame, to render drone races more interesting and fun.

It will probably result in a quite heavier build in respect to the carbon fiber wafers kits, so it won't probably be so much performing. My estimate is just below 200 grams for the full version.
On the other side, the fully enclosed, smooth design should reduce greatly air drag.

It will also be expensive: at an estimate of around 150 cc of material, price for the complete set will be probably just below 90$ at Shapeways.
Update: with the new design the cc should fall back to no more than 80, thus also price should be near to 50 or 60$. Won't be very cheap anyway.

After the main version will be completed, a "home friendly 3D printer" version is planned.
