Just acquired another TamJet A-4 Skyhawk. This one I've changed a few minor things but such as fan and receiver battery. Before it was using a Dynamax with big scream motor and also using Lithion Ion type batteries.
Well I was doing a little annual work I redid the plumbing and also some of the wiring for the new fan. A Dynamax was used but with a Neu motor. This new configuration saved 2 lbs AUW. So will see how this does with the performance of the model.
Unlike my other A4 this one is fitted with the EDF intakes which have a much smoother radius. My other model has the more turbine like intakes which are sharp. So I hope that I'll be able to see and hear the differences in flight.
Well if you looking to get started in Multicopters or dare I say it "Drones" make sure when you go to your local retailer to ask to see the M470 from Align. This Multicopter packs in many features right out of the box. The Combo version shown here comes with the G2 gimbal. Need help finding a local retailer, call Assurance R/C for one in your area.
Well I had the opportunity to go out an enjoy the day with some friends and do some flying. Brought out some of my airplanes and also got to see a few of my friends new birds. A couple of maidens. Last flight of the day was a shake down of my old Tam A-4 which flew great. Well no photos of it since I was the camera guy today.
Using my 2.8 80-200 manual focus!
The planes shown are Bob, Rich and some of my own as well. Great day but getting a little on the hot side....Continue Reading

Well trying to finish off the F-16 for a friend but have a leak that needs to be dealt with. Don't want to close up and have to pull everything out again. Here is the maze of airlines. Well it's not that bad just looks it right now.
Started the cutting of the canopy and the servos have been centered and programmed on the Futaba 14mz. I'll be able to give the program to my friend and go fly. So the canopy and vertical are now drying overnight. I'll be starting the layout for brakes as it will be digital and the gear and doors are using Tam's technique.
Only thing I may do later tonight is wrap the ducting with carbon tow just to make sure no collapse of the intake.
Well AMA Expo 2015 is over but the many new products shown at the show will surely spread out into the market. I've attached a few images for those that were unable to attend. I didn't get everything as I would grab some shots either when the show opened or when I was going to lunch. But again if you missed the show here some of what you might be seeing at your local hobby shop.
The AMA had a host of speakers attend this year. I don't have video of that so please look to the AMA forums on that as there were some topics that I'm sure affect us all.
Well had a great showing, as I was in the Assurance R/C booth for Align. We had all the main product line present as well as the many new Multicopters on display. If you missed us or just didn't get to the show make sure to come on by in Los Alamitos for a hands on view of the M470L, M480L, and M690L.
Well I attended the AMA show this past weekend and came across a BVM kit and had to purchase. After the many flight I've had on my Viper's, Mavericks, and Aggressors you can never have just one. So I'm going to start to put this together and get my new airframe ready for the future. There were a few kits available and surprisingly no one was even interested it seemed. If I had more cash I may have purchased another kit. But this is about the best sport fun you can have and have a durable airplane that should last years.
So I'll start this one as soon as I get the TJ-F16 done and then a Electra for another friend. Well both will help me to get my projects done.
Here is what I'm starting with. There are a few things done but luckily I'll be able to make changes to move away from bell cranks and into servo type options. Standard balsa boxes will be made and then sheeting. Top skin will get a glass under the skin to make things even more stiff.
Today I had the opportunity to meet many distributors from around the world. I was able to introduce the Multicopters offered by Align including a very special new entry unveiled by Alex the owner of Align. The energy and excitement for the M470L was a pleasure. Here are a few photos from the attendees of todays seminar. I'll post some more on day two of the Gimbal portion of the seminar....Continue Reading
Well here is the JetFan in action on my Sport Shark. This was only done with 5200 mAh packs. So there is more flight time available just getting used to the fan and seeing how many electrons are consumed for a given flight.
Fan is very quiet, and puts out some great thrust. I used a Neu 1915 1y motor. With the lower KV motor could extend flight times and maybe depending on torque of other motors maybe extend flight times with the packs I'm using. I think I may try the lower KV option recommended and see how that compares in performance and flight duration. For now here is my initial flight.
Here is a photo of the Conventional RX wire hook up. If you look at the image you will note red and green face the top of case. It is easier to plug these in first prior to hooking up PCU and GPS wires.
Well after our first flight we were wanting to improve what we could capture so we adjusted the PID's via the Align Gimbal software. These values are still in progress but are getting better. Take a look and see for yourself. Main adjustment were in Tilt, and Roll to the P and the D values. Once we have numbers that seem to work in many conditions we will share these value so you can try them with your G3.
We look forward to making even better images. Also want to note that we used the red dampeners on this flight. Which helped reduced vibrations in the images we captured.
The Align APS-M is awesome, software very easy to navigate. So
after programming my Radio last evening and doing a quick test flight. I charged up some packs for today so I could just get used to the Align M480L Multicopter. I will note that I used 2x 6s 5200 in parallel to extend the time I could achieve in flight. I was amazed that I was able to get over 15 minutes of flight time and still have reserves. When going up in battery size make sure to note the center of gravity as shown in the Align manual. Actually it is just in front of the landing gear and the M480L. I did some POI laps in the neighborhood. I had a few people stop as they were asking if I had a camera on it and I told them no just flying at the moment. People were amazed that I could talk to them and still control the M480L. Put it in GPS, put in desired position, and it will do the rest. I'll be going to Prado on Sunday to fly. I'll make sure to bring the M480L with me so if you want to take a closer look come on out. Just look up PVMAC in Chino, CA. I'll be there in the morning. Here are a few shots I took while flying. It's kind of dark today, maybe because it's Halloween!
Wow, what a day. Tim and myself have been testing out our new Align Multicotpers. I shouldn't say testing actually learning the setup of the Multicopters as the engineers at Align Corporation have already done the testing. The M480L and M690L are simply amazing. We have used the POI (Point of interest), HCL (Home Course Lock) and CFO (Carefree Orientation) I must note since we only have a three position switch we had to use the WiFi to change the setting via the APS-M App on my android. Very impressed with the flight characteristics of these Multicopters. As soon as our new camera system arrives we will be checking out the gimbal and sharing with you. For now here are a few shots that Tim and I took. Hands free GPS is rock solid. I'm sure the camera op will really like the steady position capability of the Align M Series.
Also want to note that Tim took the M690L out and did some return home tests and the Align M Series performed the process flawlessly.
Here is a Joe Satia kit built model. The model here was converted by Rich P. The model carried the 12s 5000 mah with ease. The custom paint was done by Todd B and very talented painter and scale builder.
Well watch and enjoy, this footage was taken at this years Big Jolt in Chino California 2014.
