It's cold out. No flying here for a while. I needed to make a new entry anyways. I am looking for another winter project. The holidays are up on us. I got my eye on the new Hanger 9 Valiant. Looks like I'll be saving my pennies here on this one. This will be my first gas plane, and look forward to it. I have considered the VVRC 40cc engine as the power source. The Evolution 33 is the recommend engine. I will be using the tundra landing gear set, as my field isn't the " standard " grass, or pavement.
This plane doesn't have , or need wing struts. The landing gear will be great as well. I have the same on my CZC and it works great. I have all kinds of different tires if it needs them.
I am headed in the right direction, and my goal for this hobby, gas is cheaper than batteries,, and you get more flying time in. Of coarse it is a giant scale plane, which means it will handle more wind with out it being affected by it. I like the CZC for that. I've been accustom to 5 min flights, so a 20-40 min will be nice.
As for the FPV flying, I'll have to get back on that, not enough flying time yet. It would be nice to set a specific plane up just for that. I'm using my FC for that now, and haven't went to far, for fear of losing it. But I guess that is a chance I could take, since I do have a extra wing set, and know how to repair it now, plus I have another FC already. Most all of my planes are 40-60 " in span, which take up some room, the CZC is stored...Continue Reading

I went to the Memphis airshow today. Was excited to see some great performers!!

Seen Kent Pietsch three storied acts that left me mesmerized. Include a dead stick routine from 6000ft, at the end a man is standinding on the ground with his hand extended, and Kent puts his spinner in his hand, softly. Then a rooftop landing on a moving RV/van. Jellybelly van. He did a comedy act wwhere he loses his (1) aileron, and wingtip scrapping the tarmack. Cuts tp with the wing tip also.
He flies a Interstate Cadet (cub) with a 37 ft span.

The Shockwave truck was there. Chris Darnell was driver/pilot today. It's a jet powered SEMI truck.

SKIP STEWART stole the show for me!! Well actually PROMETHEUS was the star. But he had a operator, Started out the SKIP way--knife edge take off, the inverted before really off the ground good. Seen him make a inverted pass low to the ground (20ft) cutting a ribbon with his rudder. He raced the Shockwave truck, and a Z06 Corvette down the runway. If you blinked the first time and missed it on the truck pass, you got to see it happen again, but they had a fire lite sky behind them making a great beautiful photo shot. We felt the heat clean across the field! He signed autographs, took pic's made pic's of friends, and spectators. He answered all my questions.
Prometheus is a Pitts S-2S plane. The shape is about as far as it goes. Skip and his wife Christina modified the plane to his standards for a extreme stunt plane. It's got a...Continue Reading

This is the last of my kit wings that I have. Got it on sale.
I painted it Fall colors.

I'll be installing the 400 zoom on it, along with LEDs, an Lemon receiver (DSMX).

Since the weather/season inspired me to be alittle creative with the art work/paint colors.

Will start another post soon, seems I got OL' yellow. The new BNF Sport Cub is in red, I don't do red. I am putting it together slowly. Local graphic shop is printing new decals for it.

Motor: stock parkzone 480 with the plastic base (back)

Esc: E Flite 30 amp switchmode

Prop: Parkzone 9.5x7.5 (T-28)

watts: 261

Amps: 21.8

I got it painted all yellow and silver.

Have water based polyacrylic (minwaxed) applied as well.

Got E Flite spinner (polished) :http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...t-4mm-EFLM1924

Flaps are installed as well, used the recommend servo.

Decals came from local shop: http://deltaimaging.net/index.cfm?pg=hm They will be happy to do yours !!

Tape used for masking : vinyl decal transfer 3M stuck to clothes first . Seemed to pull less paint than any other tape. I used this on the newly painted surfaces. Used masking take on the whit to start with. I painted yellow first, masked then silver....Continue Reading

I took my first ARF 900mm pop wing and converted it to this hot rod. I used the Power Up 400 Zoom motor, APC 7x5 prop, Emax ES08DE servos. I also use 2200 3s 50-60c batteries for it as well. This thing will move!! I had to glue the ailerons back on, the first time out they ripped off. I used foam tac for the hinge.
Since we are in the field now, night time is all I have to fly. (it's raining now)
I will be adding some LEDS to it as well, should be a couple days for them to arrive.

Edit: This is where I got my pop wings from, they are only $24-35 depending on size you want. http://www.nitroplanes.com/techone.html

Updated pic's of placement of LEDS for orientation.

May still take some LEDs off the top to improve flying time.

I recently got into night flying, and I had this laying around so, I set it up for 3s so it could run the lights. I used bigger servos as well, E max ES08DE.
A HURC 250 2400kv motor, GWS 5x3 prop. I run 800 3s , and 1000 3s batteries.
this is the plug I used from HURC: http://www.headsuphobby.com/3S-Femal...Wire-G-255.htm to power my lights on these popwings. Use the red and black outside wires, pull the middle ones out, they don't get used. I used phone wire to connect the LEDs together, because it is solid, small and will stay put. I have since got my battery plugs from Hansen Hobbies:http://www.hansenhobbies.com/products/connectors/

Up dated pic's and info!!

I got another FUN CUB on sale ($99) not to long ago, boys wanted to do it in these colors. I wanted to add some struts as well. My oldest wanted to help me, so here is what we came up with.
I had the idea to install all the telemetry that Spectrum offers in it. Just barely got it all there. Thanks to some small hands. It is capable of GPS data logging , and putting it on GOOGLE EARTH, displaying all the telemetry. I checked it before installing it in the plane.

I used these servo's for rudder and elevator on both of my cubs. http://www.headsuphobby.com/Emax-19g...ervo-G-177.htm

I used these for ailerons and flaps. http://www.headsuphobby.com/Emax-8g-...ervo-E-123.htm

I used the E-flight power 10, and a 40 amp switch-mode esc to handle the servo loads.
I have a 11x5.5 prop, and a 11x6 prop.
I made all my servo extensions for this plane, since I don't need extra wires hanging around in it. Supplies came from Hanson Hobbies.
I installed the cublanding gear on it. I used Kavan 4" tires.
Used J3cub450 wing struts.
Edit: Added some sunlight pic's.
Also numbered pic's in case of a question, for reference....Continue Reading

I received this gift from a friend here. Thanks Chris!! It has been a blast flying it. I fly while waiting for replies on the forum. Also can be used as flash light when the power goes out. I charge it while typing. It can be carried in a shirt pocket. I have since learned to flip it. Ya have to come in low over the air duct in the floor to do it. I would recommend it to any body wanting to keep their thumb skills in check. It's easy to fly.

Might add another one here. Like my son's tech one yak 54. He'll fill in the blanks.

Hi my name is Tyler and am 10 years old I am the oldest and this is what we did.

I wanted a tuff plane, I opened it and built it. First, I put the servos on and glued them on. Next, I measured and I centered the wings and tail. Then, we centered the control surfaces. Finally, I put the motor and the propeller on it. I really enjoyed putting this project together. Thanks dad!

I mastered the sim flying on planes and this will be my first plane. I have three helicopters that I fly regularly.

thanks, Tyler
