Here's my Avionik D16 from Sergey Sobakin. I flew it several times in the WC in Italy. My best description of this plane is if feels like a nice warm blanket. I mean it's very comfortable to fly. -

These are a couple of my pylon racing buddies Bernie Vanderleest and Jim Nikodem. Sometimes we get together at my local field, put up the pylons and practice some F5D. -

My personal results at the WC were a little disappointing. But the event was salvaged when Bruce Brown and I worked as a team with Bruce finishing in 10th place. -

This is my first Q40 race in Wichita, Kansas. Mike Deneve and Chuck Andraka allowed me to team up with them and helped me a lot! -

After the loss of my Too Sweet in Wichita, Danny Coe loaned me his Sweet Vee which helped me to a 19th I think it was out of 31. Most importantly I made a new friend. Duane Hulen is another top pilot and top person who has encouraged and coached me. -

This is A.J. Seaholm. He won the Jett-equipped Lyle Larson Vendetta built and painted by Lonnie Finch. Then A.J. turned around and gave the plane to me! An article about it will appear in the January issue of the digital edition of Model Aviation. -

Here's what one of the pylons looks like. The course is triangular. This is turn 1 about two football fields from turns 2 & 3. The pilot stands near pylons 2 & 3 and flies the course around himself. -

The pylons are removable so they can be taken down when I'm done so they won't be in the way when other club members arrive to fly. -

The PVC pipe slips over a metal pipe threaded into another metal pipe I pounded into the ground. -
Views: 566
The pipe in the ground has a threaded coupler to accept the other pipe. -

When the pipe is unscrewed all that remains is the threaded coupler which is even with the ground so as not to interfere with anything or anybody. -

I decided to replace the stock, plywood firewall with fiberglass. I've made firewalls from carbon fiber, but fiberglass is more than adequate and easier to work with. -

The stock firewall was easy to extract. I started with my tile cutter bit in my Dremel followed by a drum sander, then chipping it out by hand with an X-Acto. All you have to do is work in good lighting and proceed SLOWLY. -

A few home-made "channel sanders" from 1/16" plywood, 1/8" x 3/16" basswood, strips cut from 80-grit adhesive-back sandpaper. The brush is to clean off the sandpaper when it becomes clogged occasionally. I also coat the basswood w -

Mark your lines with a felt-tip pen and a straightedge. -

Use a straightedge as a "fence" to start the channel. -

Once the channel is started you can set the fence aside and "freehand" it. -

The sander keeps on a streight line pretty much all by itself. -
