It's been a short while. Not to much going on, I've included a piture of the fuselage which is read for the turtle deck stringers. I need to begin cutting wing ribs, 53 of them to be more accurate... I will be using scale rib locations and I plan to install working (moveable) ailerons.

Had a busy weekend, worked on the Fly baby Biplane, finished the sheeting on the top and cut out the cockpit area. Spent some time on the Thulin K, and was the CD at our local indoor free flight contest too.

On the Thulin, I finished the sanding for the main landing gear struts and began to modify the cowling area and first fuselage former. I plan to make the cowling and battery/speed controller into an inserted style system so that access to the battery and speed controller will be much more functional.

I purchased some light ply to make the insert piece out of and will begin the conversion soon.

Well now, let's see...

I have been rather busy with that darn day to day stuff, work and all that. I have been taking a few minutes here and there and have the Fly Baby Biplane's fuselage framed up (see Pic). I have taken a few more minutes here and there to look for pictures of full sized color schemes (have not decided on one yet).

After finding the full sized Fly Baby web-site and the available biplane information, I have redrawn the wings to be more accurate. More on that after the fuselage and all of the wing ribs are prepared.

I have thought about my other builds a bit too. What stage they are at and where to continue with each one. I have also looked over my outdoor free flight fleet to determine what needs to be adjusted/fixed for the up-coming flying season...

Good Day Everyone,

I have the rough sanding done on the landing gear struts for the Thunlin K. I tested some old Floquil wood stains to see if they would work for the bare wood on the Thulin, not sure yet if I will use them or not.

Stab and rudder completed for the Flybaby Biplane, and I have formed the bottom longeron for the fuselage work (See Picture).

I need to begin cutting wing ribs for the Auster. I have decided not to make operating flaps due to thickness of wing ribs being rather thin at trailing edge.

Mades some progress on the Fly Baby Biplane. Soaked and bend balsa for the ruddr, tail and wing tips. Note that on the wing tips the strips were curved to create the proper shape .

I have based this build on the plans by TJ Blackman shown here: http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=3776

I rescaled the plans to achive a 22" span, or 1/12 scale model. I have also located information on the biplane wing construction for here: http://www.bowersflybaby.com/

I have been shaping the landing gear struts. I need to add the bongie cord pegs then I will stain them and add a protective coating. Then I will need to solder on the axle wire. The 1/16" axle wire combine with elastic thread (bongies) should make the landing gear just about right for the projects weight of the finished plane.

I will be taking a little side trip soon and begin some work on a 22" biplane. I have not determined if it will be a "Little Toot" by George Meyer or a Bi-Baby by Pete Bowers.

Good day everyone...

Made some progress on the Thulin over the weekend. I was able to complete the wood work attachment for the landing gear. It is now ready for craving and finishing. Pics below.

I have been rather busy with daily life and little modeling has been done.

I hope everyone State-Side had a good Thanks Giving Day.

Had time to work on the landing gear for the Thulin. Pictures attached. I will add balsa to front and rear of the wire, then sandwich balsa on both sides and carve/sand to oval shape.

In third picture the inner "V" wire is too long and will need to be re-made.

Good Day Everyone...

I have attached some photo's of the elevator/rudder coupling for the Thulin KA. This would be my best guess how to make it work and resemble the look of the original aircraft not having any better photos or detailed sketches. I have yet to put control horn attaching points on yet.

I have created the "true" length of the landing gear struts, but have yet do design the final attachment to the fuselage and the axle hubs. I should have it shortly as well as the landing gear for the Auster.

I've been able to get back to the building board. I have put some work into the Thulin, See pics below.

I stopped by the LHS to pick up some spring steel wire for the landing gear on the Auster.

That about sums it up for the time being...

Good Day Everyone,

I took some time to clean up the hobby room (well move stuff around). Then I printed the side templates for the Thulin and cut them out. This plane's fuselage will be built in the Peter Rake style... See Picture below...

I also took some time to contemplate how to set up a jig to allow me to solder brass tubes for the landing gear of the Auster. I came to the conclusion that I will need to have a good idea of how the wheel hub will be done too. So, back to the drawing board so to speak.

Good day all...

This past weekend I had the pleasure (and Pain) of wiping and reloading my computer. It is an all day event when you have over 150 GB of data stored on it. Most of the programing is back online now and I will need to print some rib templates for the Auster and possibly reconfigure the fuselage design on the Thulin before I proceed with them.

Good Day All...

I have been doing a bit of building as of late.

I have begun mounting the landing gear on the Auster. I will use pieces of a small brass hinge to create a bolt on mount similar to the real aircraft (maybe not quite scale sized) and will use the wire of the "cross struts as a way of creating "shock" movement. More on that later.

Attached are photo's of the wings for a Thulin Model "K" (42'') span. I had created the parts several years ago so I decided to glue them together. The ailerons have not be cut loose at this point, need to finalize how to control them (with a servo of course...) but what method of pushrod or cables. The rudder and stab have already been laminated and built (several years ago) so maybe I'll start the fuselage soon...

Never mind the date on the photo's I just took them, guess I need to reset the camera date

Good day everyone,

Back to work on some models...

On the Fokker, I have used some polyspan to re-inforce two angled lap joints. The joints were rather hastily build and really not that good. So on one side I have the new re-inforcement and on the outside I will use epoxy to fill the gap. Fortunately it's all sheet built in this area and will sand up nicely to pretty much hide the gap.

On the Auster, I'm still debating how to do the landing gear. Attached is a photo of how the original landing gear were made. It took a while of internet research to really understand how the original gear worked. I don't believe that there is sufficent strength in teh way the fuselage was designed to build scale type landing gear, so I will build something a bit more easy to put together.

Wow... Cat is finally out of the house...

So... I've been cleaning up and sorting out much of the clutter in the hobby room. I relocated the fuselage for the Fokker and the Auster.

I have begun pondering how I want to try to build the landing gear for the Auster and what the next step will be on the Fokker.

More soon (now that the Cat is gone...)

Let see now...

I have most everything ready for Contest, I'll be CD, and not flying. Besides, I haven't really taken any time to fix up / repair any of my free flight models.

I have gotten more done to the AutoCAD files for the WACO and the AVRO. However I have not got them completed. I have several older AutoCAD files I should continue with as well. There's a DC-5, Yakolev Air-4, 1913 Dyott monoplane.

I need to get back to work on the Fokker F.VIIa as well as a couple others.

But alas, I still have the hobby room all covered up. Hopefully one day SOON I'll be done taking care of that cat...

Lets start today off with the fact that I have not been able to send that cat home yet. So the hobby room is still covered up (for protection).

I have been able to spend more time working on the plans for the AVRO and WACO. I could actually begin prototype models of both at this point, however there are several models already in progress that I really need to finish.

Lots to do around the house, so not much beyond the CAD works has been done. Once I can send the cat back home, then I could leave things out on the building board. Meaning I could actually get some modeling done.

I will be a Co-CD at an upcoming contest third weekend of August, that should be a lot of fun. Hopefully there will be a big turn out again this year.

Good day all,

I have put in several hours of drafting time at the ole computer... Sharing some time between the WACO and the AVRO.

As for the Tornado, I have assembled the rudder (needs sanding now) and the pylon as well. I have cut new side sheeting (one piece verses the two part kit side).
I got some good advice from a good source that the Tornado has a tendency to be tail heavy (as many free flight models tend to do) so I will make the pylon slot and pylon adjustable and shift the pylon when closer to completion.

I could sure get a lot more done if I could give that darn cat back to his owners.

Well, ADHD setting in I have finished cutting out ribs for a 1/2A Tornado for next years one design free flight competition. The old Jasco kit used good but slightly heavy wood. There was also quite a range of rib sizes due to the die-cut tooling.

I have made more progress on both the Avro 641 Commodore and WACO XJW-1 drawings. I need to go to the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum which is only a few hours drive from home. It would be a lot of fun let alone maybe get some good pictures of their WACO UBF.

I currently have several electric R/C scale planes in progress of some sort. they are:
Avro Anson - scaled up from Harold Towner plans
Thulin "K" - based on plans by Walt Mooney and drawings by Bjorn Karlstrom
Taylor Auster MkIII - Scaled up plans by Derek Buckmaster
Fokker F-VIIa - Based on miscellaneous drawings from the internet world

Currently I have most of my hobby room covered up to reduce damage caused by the "cat" that we are taking care of until my niece and her family can get settled in somewhere after their retirement from the Air Force. I sure hope it is soon...

I did a tid-bit of work on the Fokker recently (SBO-3), but it is a pain to get it out of it's hiding space and then have to put it right back in...

I have been trying to get back to some AutoCAD work that I have been doing, but alas not much success doing that either. I have done some to the Avro 641 Commodore and have been readying information on a WACO xjw-1 (UBF).

More as it comes along. I hope I'm not boring you all to death so to speak...
