So. Iv been taking a break from rc lately and thinking of getting into a racer drone. Iv built a few 250's but would rather fly than build now. Saw this and it looks interesting!

So finally came down to an optimal setup for my Mega Charger!

Currently it will be slightly crippled for onsite charging but this will be resolved shortly

Setup:
4x HSTNS-PL11 (12v 1200W power supply)
2x Turnigy Reaktor 2 x 300W (currently have two on order)
2x Turnigy MEGA 400Wx2 ( currently have two on order)
1x HobbyKing™ Quattro 4x6S (already have)

Configuration:
2x HSTNS-PL11 in 24v series configuration (1800W 24v@75A on 120vac) (2400W 24v@100A on 220vac)
2x HSTNS-PL11 in 12v parallel configuration (1800W 12v@150A on 120vac) (2400W 12v@200A on 220vac)

2x Turnigy Reaktor 2 x 300W on 24v rail for a maximum load of 1320W or 73%
2x Turnigy MEGA 400Wx2 on 12v rail for a maximum load of 1760 or 97%
1x HobbyKing™ Quattro 4x6S on 12v rail

since the 12v rail will only be charging a maximum of 8 4spacks per charger @1c that makes the maximum draw 1478w or only 82% of power supply. This leaves some overhead for the quattro charger. It is extremely rare to need 164s packs at a time so the common load will be around 8 packs (2 parallel per charge rail)
I may parallel a third HSTNS-PL11 to reduce the load down to 54% which is a much better number to work with

the 24v rail will be able to charge 6 packs per charger or 12 total making maximum draw of 1108W or 61% of load!

So.... for those of you that saw my buyer beware video here is another test.

It almost charged a full 10000mah 4s pack (from storage) without overheating at 168 peak watts!

The thing hobbyking doesnt note is to get near the maximum charge rate, you have to have equal or greater voltage than you are charging... so the most you can ever get from this charger is 168watts (10A at 4s)

Maximums for the charger (at 17.5v input):
6s - 5A - 126 watts (must be in cool place)
5s - 7A - 147 watts (must be in cool place)
4s - 10A - 168 watts (must be in cool place)
3s - 10A - 126 watts
2s - 10A - 84 watts
1s - 10A - 42 watts

Maximums for the charger (at 12v input):
6s - 4A - 100 watts (must be in cool place)
5s - 5A - 100 watts (must be in cool place)
4s - 6A - 100 watts (must be in cool place)
3s - 10A - 126 watts
2s - 10A - 84 watts
1s - 10A - 42 watts

Eco6-10 followup (168W semi stable charging!) (7 min 8 sec)

Well... since my last charger system was junk Im going to start collecting new parts for a v2.

**Note Unless you charge stupidly large packs... why have a single high power charger? this project is to make s truely powerfull charge system for reliable and continuous battery charging and usage.

The requirements:
Minimum of 200W per charge rail
start with 2 rails and expand to 4 easily.

Target battery to charge:
5000mah 4s
10000mah 4s

Preferred charge rate:168-336W
5000mah 4s 2-4 in parallel at 1c charge rate ( 168-336 watts needed)
10000mah 4s 1-2 in parallel at 1c charge rate (same as above)

Fast charge rates of 2c wanted.

The equipment requirements to start:
paraboard (currently have 3)
Car powersupply (things have to change dont want a dead battery)
House power supply (most used, car will be for events)
Charger (duh!)
Voltage displays for input 24v monitoring

What I am currently planning:

For the car!
Running a spare deep cell battery Ill connect a high power diode from the positive to the car main battery positive (so car battery will always be higher than or equal to the charge station voltage. A relay to activate charging the aux battery when car is running, and a 24v step up system to power the chargers at 24v for optimal charge capability.

The Diode: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000V-50A-Re...item487cd11a58
The battery: (local sourced)
The Converter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-12V-Step-...item43dd34383b

So I found this gimbal after dealing with a Foxtech falcon lite and never getting it tuned correct.

This one was a similar design but much nicer motors and came with an alexmos 32bit controller! I figured that if it didnt work on an aircraft ill use it on the ground. So I ordered it and had it in 3 days!

still working on my gimbal. trying to get this thing working... probably one of the most difficult gimbals ever to tune...

heres the current results.

Falcon lite gimbal test 2 (running 8 hard rubber dampers) (10 min 41 sec)

I have done gyro and accel calibrations 10-15 times on all axis' and have ran auto tune about 12 times to find the best options. still trying to find the best, but at least its getting closer

still not sure why the gimbal will roll with yaw so bad. iv calibrated soo many times!

Just finished a flight today with my 42" wing using a 2200mAh 3s battery!

Flew for a total of 42 minutes and 30 seconds!

After charging, I put 1690mAh back into the pack.

So flight average was 2.4A being used by my 2218 motor and 8x5 prop.

This one had no FPV gear on it but it will get my 20g FPV setup to have the least impact on efficiency.

Next goal is increasing aspect ratio of flying wing, and overall dimensions to carry a higher energy density pack.

Here is the rough specs:

Hey everyone!

This is the first video of my Whats on the printer series, where Ill be covering 3d printing and RC! This one needs a little work and ill fine tune the timelapse videos including links to the parts once complete and information on 3d printing.

The Printer:
Prusa i3

Additions:
LCD/SD reader
Custom Spool holder

The Print:
This is a 2.2 size beadlock that has been oversized to stretch a 2.2 tire, it is slightly wider and larger diameter for a super strong fit for the most demanding torque. This is my first rim designed which took a total of 6 hours to print.

Future prints:
Mobius or HD808 pan tilt for in the cockpit.
Mud guard plates

High center recovery system
Rollover correction system
Dash/Steering wheel/controls
and more!

Hey Everyone!

Cellphone Giveaway! (6 min 4 sec)

I was just browsing a few of the online stores I often buy from and found that Tinydeal is running a special! They are wanting to get people involved and provide better customer service so they made a forum where customers can discuss products and get great customer service from the staff of tinydeal.com!

They are not a direct competitor to the other RC forums, but they provide great support if you have questions or just want to post a review of products or service! Iv ordered a few things from them now and got excellent service, any questions were answered promptly and they are very helpful in finding the correct product you are needing!

it is only running for a few days and has some nice products they are giving away!

Well on to the good part!
Heres the link to the deal: http://tinydealforum.com/thread-301.html

How to Participate:
1. Register for account and reply to the above thread.
2. share the thread anywhere! Facebook Twitter, Reddit. and post the link to your post in the thread.

Dates: today to 10 FEB 2015

they must have 100 participants to unlock the grand prize. (think they are close to that right now)

But hey, spend a few minutes and enter to win! even if the phone is not compatible with your network, you can use it as a tablet... trade it... sell it... whatever

and the pedometer and battery pack are great for every day use!

Just found a good price for a 7" screen. I have one on the way to make sure it does not blue screen or if it does, that it will be usable for FPV

Hey everyone!

Just found a great deal for those that may be interested in FPV but not want to take the massive leap into FPV with all of the different equipment.

This Quadcopter has an actual 5.8ghz video link, headless mode, and some great features for starting in FPV. Or if you have a kid or friend that is asking about FPV, show them this! they can start without investing $$$ in all kinds of rc equipment! I have not tried this one yet, but I may be reviewing it if there is enough interest in it!

And if you wanted FPV on something else... the camera is modular!
