So I got the baby hawk and did a video of my first impressions. Needless to say I was not very impressed. You can see the video here:
EMAX Baby Hawk 85mm Brushless Quadcopter - First Impressions (4 min 25 sec)

Things I found problematic with the babyhawk:
-FPV camera was unfocused when it arrived
-Flight control board is very poorly mounted
-Propellers are very poorly designed, loud & unbalanced.
-FPV Camera suffers from video jello (due to overwhelming vibrations)
-Flight control board has a 9250 IMU which is very sensitive to vibrations and can be difficult to tune.

After screwing around with the baby hawk for a week trying to get it to fly better, I decided to order a DYS Elf and give that a try.

Here is the video I made of my first impressions on the DYS Elf:

Half a Mile - Flip FPV Quadcopter (2 min 38 sec)

Plenty of RSSI left. Next time I shouldn't have any problem hitting a full mile.

Ive been lugging around my LCD screen, attached to a tripod and setting the video RX up just anywhere, then messing with a spool of wires and making sure everything was plugged in right before being able to FPV. I got tired of all that, and recently I picked up a DVR so I needed to come up with an all-in-one solution that would be ready at the push of a button.

Here is my ground station before:

And after:

Well it has been just over a year since I started in this hobby. And I feel I have come a LONG way. Yesterday was my first successful flight 1000+ feet out from the ground station. With 0 failures, glitches, failsafes or video drop outs

When I first started FPV, I was flying with FrSky 2.4ghz radio control & 5.8ghz for my video. Things worked great, until I traveled 500+ feet away, at which time my video would nearly crap out and I would be forced to return home.

So I replaced the 5.8ghz with 1.3ghz video. Now I have no problem with my video, however my FrSky 2.4ghz failsafes at 300 feet! Let me tell you, I would much rather lose video signal than radio signal. I added a Low Pass Filter to the 1.3ghz video transmitter, but that only doubled my range from 300' to 600' before RSSI would start to suffer.

So then the next logical step would be to upgrade to UHF. So by doing my research I ended up purchasing a DTF UHF 1watt transmitter & 4 channel Receiver. After spending a week tearing my quad apart, and re-wiring the new UHF stuff and programming its failsafes, I begin to test my range only to find out the UHF frequency is choking out my 1.3ghz video, and after mearly 50' my video turns into a scrambled mess!!

Come to find, my 1.3ghz video receiver is some chinese knock-off and does not resist interference very well. So after contacting Pete @ SierraRC.com I got myself a fully modified 1.3ghz video receiver that has a Comtech tuner & S....Continue Reading

I had to get rid of those DJI-style arms! So I found a Hoverthings Flip FPV Frame and built my "Quad Queen". Click the image for its build thread.

I got tired of dealing with DJI-Style arms, so I sold this quad and began building my next FPV Quad...

This is why:

Death of the HellaCopter (0 min 52 sec)

That was flown with stock Turnigy 2.4ghz. No Failsafe =

Get a FrSky DHT-U Telemetry module and a 8ch RX with Failsafe and never have to worry about it again!
