On saturday, I got to the field around 8 o'clock-when the first flights of the day began! I set up my lawn chair right near the runway, and settled in to enjoy the show!
The crowd seemed a lot bigger compared to last year, plus, Baskin Robbins and Dominoes were there, along with the BBQ and grill trailers, so no one went hungry.

I can't wait 'till next year! ...Continue Reading

I finally got to maiden it on Sunday after getting the chance to run down to the hobby shop and pick up a receiver. It was VERY windy and this little plane really gets pushed around up there! The flight overall was uneventful. except for the landing, the landing gear got torn off the fuse (I fly at a grass field). But I got that fixed last night with ALOT of reinforcement. I even got 2 more flights in today!
It was still windy but this time I got to practice a few rolls and knife edge's. I can tell this little guy is going to be a blast to fly!

I just got back from the Futaba XFC and all I can say is that IT WAS AWESOME! I got about 150 pictures and 2 hrs of video (I could of gotten more, but I forgot to bring the battery charger) which I will be uploading soon. I had the greatest time, and you just can't get the real experience through a video. So if you've never been to the XFC, next year you better get your butt down (or up) to Muncie!

1.) The servos from my Extra 300 don't line up correctly in the Funtana. The previous owner used HS-55's so I'm going to get a few of those.
2.) The 2nd battery from my Extra doesn't fit in the modified battery platform. The previous owner had made a few changes for a Thunder Power 2100 3s. So I'm going to get one of those too.

Now, you might be thinking, "why not just do a little modification yourself?"
Well, it turns out that on the day before I aqquired that Funtana, I had ordered a 3D HS Katana. I was going to cancel the order, but then when I tried to fit everything in the Funtana, I just ended up with an extra 4 micro servos and a battery. I thought I might as well keep the Katana coming since I have the parts for it.

So I'm going to order entirely new electronics for my Funtana, and use all the stuff from the Extra 300 in the Katana... when it gets here.

Here's the story:
I was at the field yesterday and a very good friend of mine from the club that had seen me crash came up to me and offered to give me his used Funtana. He said that he'd rather see me fly it than have it sit in his garage. I said that I could meet him this morning again to take a look at it and maybe even take it home! So that's exactly what I did! He even left a Himax HA2025-4200 brushless geared motor in it!

Just when I thought it was fixed, I crashed the Extra 300. I took a nose dive at about 65% throttle. The wings and vertical stab were salvagable, but it's a different story for the fuse...
It actually wasn't my fault. The elevator broke in-flight, and started to flutter, so I had no elevator control to pull out of the nose dive. This was my first crash, so I'm pretty right now...

The motorcage is now fixed! I had to order a new one and a new cowl from EF.com This time I used 4 screws to secure the motor. I should have it flying again this weekend!

Well, as the title says, there's good news and there's bad news. I'll start with the good news first in 3 words: It flew great! I actually got 2 flights in, and that's where the bad news is..

on my second flight, I went into a turn and... the motor cage broke! Yep, and I think I know why too. The original owner only secured the motor with 2 screws instead of 4, so it was free to move from side to side. The cowl got completely shredded, so does anyone know if I can order another one and possibly another moter cage from Extreme flight? The vid is when it actually happened, luckily I landed the plane safely with the motor hanging out the side!

I just finished it today! I know, it took forever, but I wasn't in any rush. Instead of buying an entire power panel, I just bought a pair of banana plug sockets from Radioshack (I never would have used the power panel except for my starter) Here's a couple pics:

I went out there this morning! The weather was perfect with a slight breeze and just a few thin clouds. It's great to be flying again! I only flew this one today though, it's the "mystery red plane". I also got the deans connectors soldered onto my batteries for the Extra.

Yay! The order arrived from united hobbies! It's all the rest of the stuff I need to get my Extra in the air! An Imax B5 charger, 2 HXT 11.1v 2200mAh batteries, and a lipo charging bag.

Ok, so I was at my LHS last week and found a 45" extreme flight Extra 300-E.
http://www.extremeflightrc.com/html/extra300e.html
I went back yesterday and bought it. It came with 4 futaba S3110 micro servos, an airboss 35A ESC, and a torque 2818/900 motor all for $220. can't wait to fly it this season!
