I've completed the first phase of my rebuild of a Mini Super Cub, and I was discussing it and showing some pictures to some friends at work. One of them said that he used to fly one of them before he got intetested in quads. He said he thought he had some spare parts just lying around. A few days later he said he brought in the spare parts. Imagine my surprise when he pulled out a Super Cub and gave it to me.

Best I can tell it is the original Hobbyzone Super Cub with the 27MHz radio and the NiMh battery pack. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) it did not come with the transmitter, and the receiver is a different channel than I have for the Mini Super Cub. So now the radio upgrade of the MSC will have to wait while I get the Super Cub upgraded and ready to fly.

Other than an accumulation of dirt and grime from years of neglect in the garage, the Super Cub is in pretty good shape.
- There is a small chunk of foam on the leading edge of the wing that is held on with tape.
- There is a small chunk of foam missing from the fuse under the wing.
- The cowling is cracked in several places.
- The struts and wheel skirts are missing with fragments still attached to the fuse.
- The landing gear wires and servo control rods are rusted.
- The decals are faded and peeling, with dirt on the exposed adhesive.
- The fuse at the tail has been previously epoxied back together.

I will be upgrading to a 2.5GHz DSMX receiver, a brushless motor, and new servos; but we havr decided that this will be a Christmas gift for the kids. I will get it cleaned up, but not repaired; and it will be a joint project to repair it. They can then paint and decorate it as they see fit. Repairing the MSC has me much less concerned about crash damage, and I hope that will loose the fear of crashing by seeing how easily it can be repaired.

My kids (12yo and 7yo) want an RC plane. To guage their interest, I took them out to fly on a buddy box with some friends from work. They both had a ball and want a plane more than ever.

I have been lurking here for a while, trying to learn everything that I can. I ran across a post where liquidcourage was offering his old DX5e transmitter to help new flyers into the hobby, with the stipulation that it be passed on as we progress. So, now we have a transmitter; but no plane.

The kids are saving up their money to purchase a Sport Cub S. We will buy it together, but I want them to have some ownership in the plane, and hopefully appreciate it more than if it was just given to them.

I came across a Craigslist ad for a broken Mini Super Cub. The motor mount is broken loose, the all in one board mount is broken loose, the front wing mount post is loose, there is a tear and fold on the vertical stabilizer, one rudder hinge is torn, the tail wheel is missing, the battery box cover is missing. It needs a little work; but at $20 I thought it would be a good project. I think it will be a good second plane, once we learn a bit on the Sport Cub S.
