Watching a video, recorded by my Cheerson CX-20 quadcopter hd camera, I often miss the OSD data on it. Of course, I could watch the video recorded from the live FPV video stream but the quality of real FPV vs. Full HD is absolutely incomparable.

I thought it was very cool if I could possible to embed the OSD flight data directly into recorded Full HD video, or even on Youtube!

And then I think - why not? I made a small program that takes input of an Arducopter log file and creates a subtitles file containing the common flight data. This subtitle file contains the basic flight data and it’s suitable for playing in the media player program (such as VLC Media Player), and also it’s suitable for adding to Youtube video.

The video looks like this:

The on-screen information:
Flight mode, *Number of satellites/HDop, distance and altitude, speed, battery level.

In addition, the errors and events (FailSafes etc.) are displayed.

There is only one customizable option in the program but it’s very important: "Take-off time on video". It’s an integer and it can be positive or negative. Used to synchronize the time in the log and on video.

"Take-off time on video" specifies the time in seconds of the first quadrocopters TAKE OFF. Just watch the the video and find the time (in seconds) when quadcopter took-off and set this value.

To load the subtitle file in VLC Media Player opens the menu "Subtitle -> Add subtitle file."

For adding it to Youtube you need to go to "Video Manager", click "Edit" button on the desired video, select “Subtitles and CC” and upload the subtitles file and click the "Publish" button.

Well that's all, here's the program:

Went to RC Country in Sacramento today:

Like a kid waiting to go to Disneyland. A friend and i drove to sac to visit RC Country Hobby Shop. Walking in the doors was like walking into candyland. Then the employees started talking and all was lost. Sad when employees kill the moment with crap customer service. Wont be going back to RC Country again i suspect. Online ordering is the result of employees with no skills.

I think I damaged my antenna on a previous flight the other day and I wasn't getting any kind of range beyond 30 m with my FPV today so I switched over to LOS.
It wasn't so bad actually and maybe I need to practice anyhow.

I'm trying to smooth out my turns a little bit and add a little bit more aggressive banking.
My rates are actually quite tame so I think it's actually time to make some adjustments..... I'm waiting on an antenna that I ordered about a week ago so hopefully I will be back up in FPV mode soon .
I made the best out of this flight though. I'm relatively happy with how it turned out.
I think this is about as fast as aggressive as I have flown yet. Once I start flying like this on a regular basis I'm definitely going to have to tilt of the camera for FPV.....
Enjoy the show

DJI Matrice 100 M100 Quadcopter Drone Platform Matrix UAV

Additional expansion bays allow you to add components, customize the payload, and fly with any devices you want. Put cameras, sensors, computing boards, communication tools, and more into the sky, and gather data while completing complex jobs from a birds-eye view.

Connect and fly with a range of DJI or third party devices, and transmit data to the ground in real time. The Matrice 100 has dual parallel CAN ports for connecting DJI devices including the Guidance sensor system and dual parallel UART ports for connecting third party components of your choice. Now it is easy to mount your own equipment and put it into the sky.

Add an additional battery compartment to achieve up to 40 minutes* of flight time. This gives greater power to both your platform and any additional devices or accessories that you wish to fly with.
*Flight times vary based on payload and flight conditions, and the maximum 40 minute flight time tested when hovering with dual TB48D batteries and no additional payload.

Achieve perfect balance and an ideal flight experience by sliding the battery and other compartments around the body of your Matrice 100. Put your components exactly where you want them, and get the most out of your system.

Flexible to match your...Continue Reading

During my first planes and flying I had 3 micro biplane while I loved the way they flow they were easy to knock the landing gear or top wing off. So now I have saved up for the pt-17 which I like the way the landing gear go's on like a champ. I made a Champ in to a biplane it flow great and had no problem keeping it together. This PT 17 is one good looking plane. During that time I also went to thinking I could fly in high wind's even my micro's. Which I got away with for a few month's. Than in one week hurt most of my planes. The one wing micros all fixed and flow again. The biplanes never were right again after a while taking apart for part's. I saved up the money for this new plane do I go get it. If I do get it well not be for a windy day.

This past Saturday, I was vacationing with my wife and some of her family in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They took me to see the aviation museum at the Hamilton Int'l Airport. It is a very nice museum and I was really enjoying myself when I saw this Lancaster being started up. I asked one of the museum staff and was informed that it was currently the only flyable Lancaster in the world (there is another one in England but at this time is not flyable due to being in repair for a recent engine fire. Unfortunately I was unable to see the runway and subsequent takeoff but here is part of the startup and taxiout.

This particular aircraft was manufactured in 1945 and uses the Packard V-12 engines instead of the Merlins. Still, you got to love the sound of 4 V-12 running up.

Testing some new arms that allow 5" props. This rig is so much fun. You can just fit a 1300mAh 4S on top, along with a GoPro4. Very nimble.

This video shows all the initial running of a brand new PAW, from opening the box right through to achieving first-flick starting and excellent running/throttling, etc.
And it really is a great engine.
If you think big diesels should be started using an electric starter, or whacked with a stick, have a look at this...
A reasonable shove starts this engine is less time than it takes to pick up a starter...
