I have well an truly been bitten by the Flite Test bug.

Their builds are simple, yet effective. great for getting in the air, with both simplicity, and great looking foamies.

My first FT build was the FT-22 Raptor. Although this bird flew great, I found her to be well over weight. so i was not getting the same flight characteristics as others.

So this bird is now a hanger Queen, and will be later re-built with much needed weight saving techniques i am yet to figure out.

My next build from Flite Test, is the Versa (Swappable)

I went with the swappable, as i wanted to be able to fly different planes, using minimal electronics. and this seemed the logical answer.
The Versa is my first flying wing, and it is a very different experience than flying a conventional plane. firstly there is no tail to get round, and secondly, there is only 2 control surfaces, the left aileron, and the right.

I find her to be a really great fun plane to fly, she is more than capable of basic stunts, loops and rolls. but then she will really pootle along at 1/4 throttle, turning her into a really gentle flier. Which really does show me that this bird was made for FPV. (something i am looking into later)

She has had over 20 flights, and is starting to get finely tuned. Which is proving to be a fantastic both fast, or lazy flier

My final build, is the Storch.

The Simple Storch, is a great flier. It is HUGE.... the wing span is at least twice that of the...Continue Reading

Hey guys.
I have recently built the Flite Test F-22 raptor. If you have not been over to the Flite Test site, i urge you to go over there and take a look.

http://flitetest.com/

They have some truly fantastic things. Free plans for us scratch builders, and for those whom want to get into building, Speed Build kits. these kits come with everything needed for the build, apart from tapes and glues, and electronics. A great tool to get the younger ones building

I decided to print out the plans, and scratch build myself.

Although i have a printer, i have no ink, so i resort to printing out at my local library, @ 10p per black and White sheet. 20p for colour..... so being cheap, i go black and white.

as you can see i mark the lines with their respective colors.
This means i do not cut the wrong line too deep. or cut a score line (although there are no score lines on the FT-22)

within a few hours, i had a bare airframe.

And the next morning, i had my maiden.

Being as ive been flying now for a few years, i thought it time to try and find a decent club local to me.

My reason for a club, is the chance to meet like minded people whom enjoy the same hobby. Flying solo is ok, but it does get a little boring. as there is no one there to offer advice, or congrateulate you on that perfect landing, or that perfect flight.

I was a little dismayed at how strict it can be over here in the UK. Although you need to be a member of the BMFA to even fly a model legally, (this is your insurance) to fly with in a club, 99% of the time you need to be certified. This scares the heck out of me. As i have been flying under the radar for all my time, to have some on judge me to see if i can fly or not feels alien,
But, there is one club semi local to me, that seems to be what i have been looking for.

Many years ago, i was a scout, then i became a scout leader. Where we would have yearly "district" Camp, this camp was held in the middle of summer, where of an evening, whenthe wind was calm, and the temp managable, we would have RC planes wizzing round, above our heads. Low an behold it is the very same club i am to be checking out very soon.

So with nostalgia flowing through my veins, i really want to get my little spitty looking tip top, and build my next scratch build.

as you may have spotted, i have installed the black and white stripes (DDay stripes) as per the real thing, it is currently electrical tape, but later today i...Continue Reading

well. its been a while since my last update.

and im terrible for documenting my projects. but, my Wot-Next was getting a bit tatty

so i decided to make a new plane. only issue was i dont have any 5mm depron, buti had 3 sheets of 2mm.

i will take pics of it soon i promise, buti used the fuse from the wot-next, as it was balsa, and made a formed wing with twin boom. It looks really funky, and i called it the Sprite-Fire. because it is bright,

Also, i recent accident with my 1/5hor has left it un-usable until i get a new rear end for it.
I went to put the batteries in today, and found the left hand mount for the rear swing arm to be broken, again, pics to come.

Plans for it, non as of yet, as i am in need of a few parts for it, front end is getting worn, rear tyre is worn, rider is bruised and battered, she looks like shes had a hard life (and she has)

so unless i can get some new parts, i may have to get a whole new bike

Hey guys an gals,

I was charging my lipos tonight, after 5 fantastic flights, 3 on my Wot-Next, and 2 on my 1100mm Dynam Spitfire,

wow, they were great flights, the spitfire really does handle like a dream, so easy to fly, and so enjoyable.

I was using my Sigma EQ Mini charger, as always,

in my converted ammo box, (small hole in the side to allow the kettle lead in, and thats it. . when i heard a PoP, i ran over to the box, pulled the plug instantly, and proceeded to check for smoke, heat, basically any indication of fire. Nothing.

The charger is dead , it sounds like one of the transistors has gone pop, as it rattles now.

I am really glad it is just my charger, but really miffed, as we had some cracking weather today, and i was planning on taking my small air arm out again tomorrow,

See i normally only charge at 1x or .75x the capacity rate, so if its a 1500mah i will fast charge it at 1500mah, or 1000mah for a medium charge.
My charger never got hot to touch, but i do believe it being in the box with the battery may have been the cause for the poped transistor.

So it looks like this pilot is grounded for a while, due to no charging system. So i can only hope that either we get some spare cash so i can buy a new one, or some one gives me cash for xmas. either way, it looks like its going to be the new year till i can fly again...

Looks liek those cosmetic mods i wanted to do to the spitty will have to get done now, as i cannot sit here twiddling my thumbs

Hey guys and gals. Unfortunatly it has come time to sell my beloved project.

It is completed, and ready for any one to display with pride. It has beena lobour of love for over 4 years now. but it is too big for me, and my overactive 4 year old. so it is only a matter of time before something gets broken...

But. here are a few pics of her as she now stands proudly.

Well......

I saw.
Thumper III she was so beautiful, and loud. I also saw the DC3 and the 2 Spitfires all in the DDay colours.

I must appologise for the quality of some of the pics, and the video. The video was taken on my phone, and i didnt get the good lens for the camera, as i was kinda in a rush... as you can imagine.

Now the sound was just beautiful, a loud harmonious roar, from all the engines, including the beautiful sound of the radial engines from the DC3. what a sight. what a sound.

It was as close as i could get. but you can kinda hear what it was like, the sound was so loud, it was distorting my mic.

Well. slight update. This is a model, i have been working on for the past 4 years.
The past 2 weeks i have been beavering away on my lancaster. She is almost finished.
Had to do some repairs to the paintwork as had a slight reaction to the varnish i used.
But not looking to bad i think. Am really happy with how she is turning out.

Once i get back from my anniversary weekend, (mine and my wifes 1st year wedding anniversary ) I will put down some more varnish, this time hopefully there wont be any reaction.

Here are a few more pics.

Well here she is in all her glory.

The decals are made of paper.
Printed off at my local library.

I applied foam Armour (or pva) to the area, placed the decal, then once set. i covered the whole plane with an 80/20 mix of foam armour.

I decided to mark the panel lines with permanent marker, as this really makes it pop.

I cant wait to see her in the air, as she has now got flaperons.

This is a trial, as my last attempt to maiden her, was not good with the flap mod.
so flaperons are seeing their debut on my 109

Please feel free to comment.

Well, here she is.

Not looking too bad i think,

She is currently drying, hence why she is a little white.

But if you look at the spinner, you can see a nice sheen coming through.
I watered down the Foam Armour down a tad, (prob 80/20) just because i didnt need a thick coat.

I decided to mark the panel lines, which i think really makes it pop.

What do you guys think?

Tis a sad day indeed. I went to go to my local hobby shop today. As i preffer to buy in person. that way i know the quality of the items i am getting.

And it was gone...

Mainly Planes and Trains was replaced by Diva hairdressers....

Yes it has been a while since i last went, but how many local independent hobby shops are going to go under because we choose to be lazy. Because we choose to buy from china, or hong kong.

Yes they may charge a little extra, but think of what your missing.

Meeting real people, with real knowledge.
Other hobbyists with similar interests.
Your stuff, INSTANTLY.

so dont choose to sit there behind a computer screen,

get out there, vist your LHS. do yourself a favor.

My LHS is now over an hours drive away. Yes there are others nearer to me, but they dont do the stiff we need, like Depron, or similar, Hinges, Piano Wire, clevises, Batteries, Motors.

All they do sell is a limited selection of glues, paints, and plastic kits.
Not as good as what i did have, but well, i will buy what i can from them. the rest. Well ill guess ill have to wait for them now wont i

Well, she is now painted.
Here are the decals i will be applying.

they are a depiction of another BF-109 model i saw. i am not sure whom flew it, but its not very often you see this paint scheme.

I know its not 100% accurate, but it is close.

Even the cockpit recieved a once over too.

Well, the time has come to re-do my BF-109.
She has seen better days, so, now im going to be completely re-painting her, the skin has gone gator like, and cannot be doing any good for aerodynamics, so its time to rub her down, and test a new product to me.

Foam Armor.
Here is a long term project having to yet again take a back seat.

it is a 1/32 scale lancaster bomber, with aluminium skin, and ply formers.

And here she is in all her uglyness......

the damage.

Well,
after much work with lostsoul with his apps,

we have a working version of his flight map.

This is an epic app, and an absolute must for any one like myself who loves FSX.

this is my basic setup atm.

Head tracking - PS2 Eye Toy with FreeTrack V2
3 acer monitors
Razer Mouse and Keyboard
CnM 7" Tablets x2
Saitek X52 Pro Flight Stick HOTAS
GTX 650Ti OC (2gb Ram)
Intel i7
8GB Ram

I thought that running these apps would impact my system. they do not, well if they do its not noticeable,

when i say near, i mean within travelling distance for a FB.
i have no one i can fly with, or meet to fly with, to have a common ground like this place would be a good start,

if you know of a club (personally) or are close to me, PM me,

Just would be nice to fly with someone every now an then, than think why am i doing this on my own some times.
