I'm really enjoying those small out of production HET woodies. It's fun to soup 'em up with a small 2200 kv motor and let 'em rip. The speed and small size sometimes pushes the vision limits. Gotta thank Richard for creating the Imperial Japanese naval aviator for the Hein. He carved it out of balsa and dyed tissue paper.

Some notes about the 27" Hein setup and flight characteristics:

My CG is 42 mm back from the leading edge at the fuse. All up it weighs 290g plus 98g battery, for 388g total.
Grayson Hobbies Micro V3 motor, about 2200kv
3 cell Rhino 1050, 40C
Turnigy 30 ESC
APC 6x4 prop
Hobby King 30 mm alum spinner fits perfectly
239 watts, 21 amps]
She really goes.

I tried flying it stock, but had poor aileron control, so I cut full length wood strip ailerons, just over 10 inches long. There was no room in the nose for the motor wires, so I cut a small hole in the bottom of the nose for the wires to relax into as they travel aft under the motor. Gets them out of the way of the moving outrunner. The hole is 1 cm wide by 2 cm long. Also put a cooling hole in the top about the area of half a nickle. Half moon with the flat side one half inch back from the firewall. Had to fiberglass the inside of the nose to give it all strength. If I did it again, I'd start by stripping the front 2 inches of silver covering on the nose and glassing the whole area with 1.5 oz cloth with epoxy. Then you could cut the holes and still have plenty of strength.
