I have an old gold pan ~ gold tub RC10 (edit: turns out it's a resonably sought after Edinger model, I still have the rather rough looking box with the address on it, pity it's such a worn little car ). It must be about 20 years old. I bought it 2nd hand in the 90s for about R650. At the time this was the equivalent of $100US. It had a mechanical speed control and original associated reedy stock 27T motor. I learned all about RC with this model. It took the brunt of my inexperience. I became quite familiar with the smell of burned out servo. Within a year the electrics had expired from simple mistakes like reversing the male pin servo plugs. These days our electronics seem to be idiot proof as far as plug reversal is concerned. The mechanical speed control was of course bullet proof.

There seem to be a lot of these old cars around. Most of them are well worn. Mine is in reasonable condition apart from leaky shock seals and some worn screws. I also have an old RC10T with the Stealth tranny in similar condition. Apart from a broken front axle part on the RC10T, both of these cars are ready to run. I've bought two brushless combo sets from cyclonetoy.com so I will be installing those in good time.

For now here is the list of parts I have ordered from Tower Hobbies. It's quite remarkable that they still have these goodies for a race car made in the 80s. Fortunately a lot of these parts were common to later Associated race models. Thankfully AE manufacturing costs must have been keenly controlled by some good soul or we would have been making our own bits and pieces today.

There are two ways, option 1 will display a bigger image in your post. Option 2 will display a thumbnail image under your post which viewers will have to click on to open in a larger format in another window. More painful for us lazy beings but definitely more friendly for the bandwidth impaired.

OPTION 1: Host on another site, who cares about dial-up viewers anyway?

The pics I posted in that thread are hosted on www.imageshack.us I used a gmail account for the required e-mail address and followed their instructions to upload my pic. Image shack then gives you a selection of links which you can copy. I take the one right at the bottom of the page "direct link to image" (lets call it linkylink) and paste it into my post on the rcgroups thread like this:


OPTION 2: Upload to your rcgroups post using the site tools, dial up users will love you, go hug a bunny.

Open the “UF P51-D pics” thread on rcgroups. Scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see a panel where you can write a post. Below this panel are two buttons right next to each other:
“post quick reply” and “go advanced”

Click on “go advanced”


This takes you to a page with a panel where you can type your message. There are some extra buttons below. You want the “manage attachments” portal to happiness. Click on it

This will bring up a panel which is pretty self explanatory. Upload your pics and submit the message.

NOTE: With either option you should reduce the size of your image. I use paint to do this. If you are running windows you should have paint. Open your image in paint then press:

“Alt” “i” simultaneously

then press

”s”
A handy little window opens for your convenience.

Reduce your image size from 100% to whatever makes it fit nicely in your page. Use the stretch function not the skew options below.

Save your image as a JPEG file not a BMP.
