2 Attachment(s) Fitting the Main Ldg Gear
Discussion / Posted by Float Flyer / Today @ 02:41 AM / 60 Views / 0 Comments / Reply
I managed to fix the issue with the Ldg gear interference with the help of this great thread that is going on in the workshop. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1113526

I think I am getting to a lay out that I like. Though the Nacelles are still too large for scale, I think this is the best it is going to get. I might be able to choke the exhaust too much. I am really hoping to avoid filling two more engine holes with EDF's. I think the weight gain would be a bad trade off against slower landing speeds.

Next stop is the nose gear and working out a steerable, retractable mechanism.

Once I have the retract mechanism sorted for the nose gear, I can finally get to building frames, formers and ribs.

3 Attachment(s) PZ P-40 Aileron mod
Discussion / Posted by Comm69 / Today @ 12:00 AM / 99 Views / 0 Comments / Reply
Try this to tighten up your aileron travel. The tube is a small antenna tube; cut the correct length you want to use and split it in half with a xacto knife. Now spread the tube and slide it over the torque rod and then epoxy in place.

Since these pictures I have removed the original mod. I then removed the tape and the torque bar/tube. I then used a single piece of tube, epoxied in place and replaced the tape. Aileron travel is now much, much smoother and more precise.

If you have the torque rod completely removed from the wing, now is a good time to also check the plastic housings in the ails that the torque rod goes into. I found both of mine to be glued with a rubber cement type glue and the housing would pull away from the ail.

Something else to notice is the end of the torque rod. Use a dremel to smooth/round it out. The end of the factory torque rod can catch on the inside of the channel in the plastic housing.

Prior to doing this mod, the torque rods were moving away from the body and flexing the ail and stressing the servo, now it is a smooth movement.

2 Attachment(s) 4site
Discussion / Posted by Slider2732 / Yesterday @ 10:52 PM / 135 Views / 0 Comments / Reply
With events as discussed below fresh in my mind, naturally hindsight comes into thinking.
But, that reminded me of my wishes to increase the sizing of the successful Sopwith Camel and increase wing area too.
Natural thought from hindsight was next - 4site !

There's been a lot of talk about these eagerly awaited micro planes. So a 4site it was.

The originals will come in at the approximations of 15" span and 1.25oz weight.
For the ITC gear, i'd need to reduce the span, to give the hoped for 0.9oz that the gear seems to haul best.
My 4site is just under 10" span, length 11", weight ..... 0.9oz

Taxi tests (it has ITC F-22 landing gear) have gone well, but with rain all day today it'll be tomorrow til the maiden.

My mother-in-law got us one for our 5 and a half anniversary. (Yeah I know, I NEVER think anyone will get us something for our half anniversary.)

So nowwww, we have one in the living room and our older one is in our bedroom, so now we can have seperate tvs and a full screen. Seriously wanting to bounce of the rooftops. I've always been so hampered by split-screen when it came to fps games. Gonna REALLY beat the boys now!!

Just too excited not to hold it in.
5 Attachment(s) Flat Tool Vacuum Molding
Discussion / Posted by Alex.Schweig / Yesterday @ 08:28 PM / 196 Views / 0 Comments / Reply
In this exercise, I will make a sheet of roughly 5" x 3.2" carbon fiber servo horn material.

To save on materials, and because I only have 12 inches of 3.5 inch wide carbon fiber woven cloth, the middle plies will be composed of 4oz fiberglass cloth.

The flat tool is a 6.5" long, 4" wide piece of plate glass. The corners have been rounded and the surface has been polished. It will be waxed a total of twelve times, buffing between coats. PVA will not be used.

The vacuum bag will not be sealed directly to the flat tool, to avoid using sealant tape. Instead, an envelope bag will be used. The bottom of the bag will be carefully lined with two layers of paper towels to prevent any epoxy from contacting the bag surface.

The bagging schedule is as follows
-Bag
-Breather
-Flat tool
-Carbon fiber (5" x 3.5")
-4oz glass (0-90-0 weave orientation)
-4oz glass (45 or bias)
-4oz glass (0-90-0)
-4oz glass (45 or bias)
-Carbon fiber (5" x 3.5")
-Peel ply
-Breather
-Bag

Now, on to the required materials list:
-Flat tool
-Laminating epoxy (EZ-LAM 60 will be used)
-Clean working surface, wax paper or PE plastic
-Small acid brush and small square squeegee
-Measuring/mixing cup (medicine dose cups work well)
-Carbon fiber woven cloth
-4oz fiberglass cloth
-Rotary cutter or appropriate scissors
-Carnauba wax
-Very clean rags for waxing and buffing
-Vacuum system (EZ-VAC) and assorted accesories
-Peel ply and breather felt
-Cheap white vinegar and isopropyl alcohol for cleaning

Here are most of the materials laid out.

alright i know these are all different types of cars and i know the sc10 is the best for a first racer. but how would each of em be for someone who has a little experience succesfully getting a stock savage around a small track for 1/8 scale.

This got me thinking, a 2.4gHz R/C car Tx with telemetry. With mods to the electronics from the vehicle, it could take a lot of R&D work out of how to transmit storm data to a laptop, for the Storm Runner project
http://www.rcslot.com/blog/spektrum-...telemetry.html

Saying that, news this week is that my residency has been nullified !
The Chicago office of USCIS has denied my residency application and I am now here in the USA illegally.
Bought and paid for house.
No credit cards.
All documentation asked for has been supplied.
No criminal convictions.
No problems or incidences with law enforcement.
Married for 2 years to my American wife.
The only delay was with the Affidavit of Support, because of problems with the economy noone felt able to sign. Threatened with deportation we made the official appeal as instructed and through generous donations by friends and yard sales etc were able to meet the filing fee. Then we gained a family members signing of the form when he realised the gravity of the situation. All paperwork returned in the allocated 30 days.
Residency denied.

Currently attempting to gain info from a related messageboard and from friends who have been through the immigration process.

There may be no Storm Runner taking to the skies next year, that may gain valuable data for the scientific community and, help save lives.

15 Attachment(s) 12 to 24 volt starter box
Build Log / Posted by Waldopepperaxe / Yesterday @ 12:39 PM / 536 Views / 3 Comments / Reply
Motor turning over to slowly with the electric starter??

I needed a 24 volt battery to use on my electric starter for some of my bigger engines and even in the cold on a few of the smaller then bigger engines.

So after searching on line (not extensively) and found nothing, I made this box which is two 12 volt batteries with a switch to go from 12 volts to 24 volts. It has worked out fantastic for me so I thought I'd post on how to do it.

this is a step by step procedure built into the pictures, the box was already completed when I did this so most of the pics show the finished product.

I present to you the Waldotorque double 12-24 extreme starting system.

Is it extreme? absolutely not,, but everything today is extreme, so why should I change that. :D

You can also charge the two batteries without having to open up the box or disconnecting anything. just put the switch to 12 volts and attach your charger to 1 side of the box, put the clamps on the other side and then charge that battery. I'm not sure if you could charge both at the same time with the switch in the 24 volt position but if I find out it is safe to do so I will post the results in an update.

UPDATE already : LOL instead of using the Machine screws or Bolts for the battery terminals it would be much wiser to use Banana plugs to plug into on top of the box. Thank you majortomski for the suggestion.

12 Attachment(s) Building F-22's detail stuff
Discussion / Posted by kanji / Yesterday @ 11:39 AM / 576 Views / 1 Comments / Reply
I didn't want to crowd my F-22 build thread with these small build updates, so I decided to create own thread for those to my blog.

So lets start the thread with first post that shows for I created ejection seat. This is far cry from those scale cockpits on most jets, but jets just look empty without cockpit.. and I didnt want to pay 300$ for one.

My ejection seat is loosely based around schematic view of F-16's ACES II seat. I build frame from balsa and then started to layer more balsa to add details. To give some texture to seat and back cushion, I covered 1mm balsa pieces with fabric netting.

Pics speak louder than words.. so here you are

oh..sorry again.. some pics are taken with my crappy phone cam

I'm not usually very good at keeping blogs up to date so don't be surprised if this is the only entry for ages to come...

An awesome DS day was had yesterday at Rushup, UK with some other RCG members including DSMan and Zimofile. Everyone except the UK record holder (Mark Abbott) chalked up new PB's. Mark's PB of 237mph is so spectacular that it's always going to be tough to beat and falling 10mph short at 227mph was downright spectacular nevertheless! For the rest of us it was onwards and upwards.

The following speed details are replicated in the Speed, Plane, Person, Location... DS thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...43385&page=112

Today's speeds (witness/radar gunner in brackets):

Mark Abbott:
Opus MCT 227mph, (GB/George Pilkington?)

Graham Bridge:

HP60 154mph, new PB, (KS)

KS (Kiwi Steve Rainbow/Hot Air):
Mini Blade 154mph, new PB, (GB)
Balistik 122mph, new PB, (GB)

Warrick Smith (Zim):

well, lately I have been working on the "Lazy Boy II" it is an electrig 2m glider made from blue core 6mm foam. It is an Easy build and since I am new to flying it was fun and very easy to build.
My biggest problem was i got impatient and tried to paint it using krylon fusion paint supposedly safe for plastic. Well, do I need to say any more ? yup you guessed it. I ruined all my work. so now I have to start form scratch once I get back from my trip. It was looking so good too.
I ordered some "towerkote" covering to practice on foam as it said it was a super low heat made for foam and other stuff. so i will practice with it on scraps of foam before I try to cover my new lazyboyII and see what happens. If nothing else i can always resort back to permanent markers as I know they do not harm foam.
well that's iot for now.
