Hello
I was thinking would it be possable to use the rc gear out of a micro 3ch heli in a plane? Like having twin pushers and getting rid of the tail motor and using an accutator instead for a ruder or elevator.

Thanks

Question Will Sukhoi guts work for this idea?

Will Parkzone Sukhoi guts would work well for making a 16in 3D plane (specifically a Matchless Juka)?

Will Parkzone Sukhoi guts would work well for making a 16in 3D plane (specifically a Matchless Juka)? I want to build a small 3D plane for my basement this winter and would like to save money by buying a Sukhoi, gutting it, and building my own airframe for it rather than buying a Ultra Micro 4-Site which would cost more. So I have two main questions. First, if I use the stock motor/gearbox, will it have enough power for a 20-25g plane? And second, will the standard linear servos allow enough throw with the right horns on the control surfaces or would I need the L versions? Notice the word need. I already know it would be better, I just want to know if I can get by with the normal ones.

Last year I bought the parts for a citabrea for replacements on my son's plane. His is still flying. So I bought the new ar6400 to install in the parts citabrea. I also bought the motor from the ember, because it has the plug already on the end of the wires. I installed the motor in the citabrea motor mount, glued it in along with the rx/brick. The hardest part is the control rods, damn them things! I got the rudder link installed. Taking a brake before I break something!

I bought myself the Cessna when I got my sons citabrea. Nice little plane, but one day while flying, I hit the mode switch by accident and caused the ele servo to strip. I was gonna put the new brick in that, but I like how the citabrea flies slow.

There is another project that I have been working on, its the Dumas piper j4-e cub coupe. Just might try the brick in it. It has a 17 inch wingspan. If anyone has done this plane with the parkzone brick, let me know how it came out.

www.easybuiltmodels.com They have various items including pilots that will work with the PZ micro planes as I think 1:24 scale is fairly close.

I usually mke my own but I wanted to get my going on finishing my micro Spanish Civil War Bf-109. So I thought I'd send for the set of 3 WWII 1:24 scale pilots. They are under $5 but shipping brings it to $10. Worth it in my opinion as these guys look great ( much better than the picture on the web site) and will look even better once painted, etc.

I like the goggles up and one also has an oxygen mask. Wish I ordered more now. I just picked up the PZ P-51 flys great. Flew it twice and now have the e-gear out to put in my Bf-109.

Anybody come across a simple scale balsa and tissue design that would use the stock power system and the aileron servo? I have the gear from a Sukhoi that tangled with a 60 size heli to put in a scratch model. I'm not ready to tackle molded depron yet and I don't really want a flat foamy 3D. Although I might like a flat foam pusher jet scaled appropriately.

Would any of the Gullows kits be the right size?

Suggestions please?
There's lots of free plans, and I figured with some thinner foam it just might work out alright?

I prefer monoplanes to biplanes, but I'm not terribly against bipes.

If anyone has, suggestions on sizes?

Well it’s official my doctor has classified me as a workaholic and have given me marching orders to get a hobby dohhh! … A very easy sell to my better half to start a huge project that has been on my mind for some time now.

I have this kit scanned in and reengineered it to 1/72 scale and is ready to be plotted for cutting
I’m going to use some molded 1/72 micro r/c hellcats and wildcats. But I also would like to add a micro control line since the SARATOGA it’s self is 12 foot and then some it will be stable for a squadron 3 models joined by Carbon fiber rods for a patrolling pattern.

There is a thread I’m looking for and can’t seem to find...it’s an older thread that uses micro models with a control line and a central tower I don’t know if it was a thread itself are part of one

Any one know the name of that thread?

I have set up on the bench the HobbyCity 1S 3A brushless ESC. Everything is working great except for one issue. When I go full power the servos start to jitter and go crazy. Other than that the throttle response is great and start up is fine. Programming the ESC works as advertised. Maybe I am graying out the RX with too much power but it seems to me more like some kind of interference coming from the ESC affecting the servos directly. anyone have any thoughts?

I have watched on line videos of indoor flying models, and they remind me of moths flying around a light bulb, they dart around so fast. I was looking for something that flies around really, really, slow. Close to walking speed or less.

When I first started in the hobby, I looked around for an aspect of it that interested me.
This was about 10 years ago and I did not have a PC then. So the images I saw must have been in a book.

What I remember is planes that were scratch built, had super thin transparent covering, a really large prop, about 12 inches as I recall, and were electric powered, not rubber band powered. It must have had a geared down drive to use a prop that big. The plane might have been free flight with the rudder trimmed so it would fly around inside and not hit the walls.

I believe I remember that the prop was rotating very, very, slowly.

I think the throttle control was proportional and a Tx was used to send out the signal.

I do not recall seeing anything on the fuse but the batteries and the motor. That is, no servos, receivers, etc.

I seem to remember reading that the covering was a liquid, spread out onto the surface of a pan of water, the carefully picked up out of the water, and put on the wings and tail.

Now, I don’t know if there is a forum in EZONE that treats this phase of the hobby or not. Maybe those kinds of planes do not even exist anymore. Maybe my memory is really bad too.

But whether I am having a fantasy or not, what this all boils down to is this. Are there some planes out there for sale that can fly indoors really, really, slow? I was hoping that technology might have improved the planes so a person would not have to scratch build them anymore. The building process was quite laborious as I recall.

But I do love to watch a plane move slowly thru the air. I am not interested in helicopters.

Thanks

As you may have seen in my blog, I tried a Sopwith Camel a few weeks ago and all didn't go too well.
This time, construction material was to be polystyrene plates and the motors would be taken from their plastic housings. ITC F-22 gear would be used and a 40mAh li-po.
Everything went well and left me with a Camel with these figures -
Wingspan: 8"
Length: 5"
AUW: 0.4oz approx

There is slight undercamber in the wings, the wings themselves ended up with raised ends because of the plate size and the wiring has been left as full length for the motors. Packing tape has been used on the top surfaces of both wings, with a smaller overlap that runs underneath. A rudimentary sanding was made to the top and bottoms of the LE of both wings.

I've just flown it in the livingroom and it's too quick ! 1/4 throttle and some deft direction inputs can keep it aloft for a few seconds, but it might be fun on full power.
It flies balanced, little in the way of high alpha (except the increases in height through speed) and turns well.
I might make it tail heavy and see if that slows it down...or build another, bigger one.

*update* now with landing gear
Also fitted the original 130mAh li-po of the ITC gear, while weight seems to be no issue.

And, just took it out in the backyard...funny stuff watching this zap along. I thought bipes were supposed to fly slowly ? The landing gear can't be tested due to the grass and if taken out to the road i'd probably send it flying into someone's window. I got some interference somewhere at one time and it made a turn on its own, which was disconcerting, but luckily well within the boundary of our garden.

So, it's a sort of Aero Ace/Camel/Estes HyperX type of thing with ZTT lol

Please don't kill me for posting outside the original thread. I think I posted it in a 'less than optimal' forum. :) I'm looking for advice on a small plane.

I'm working on milling blue foam for some 20 inch models. During the testing for these things, I milled a prototype with an approx. 9-10 inch span. The thing came out at 9 grams. I was thinking if I scaled it up to to 12 inches, it would be a very 'do-able' micro 'Bear'.

I have a blade mSR and I keep looking at the brick inside the thing and I'm amazed at how much they stick on a circuit board and how long the thing will swing the 7-inch rotor on 1S 130mah!

I've been looking to get some parts into the hands of some folks that would like to test it out and I haven't had much response for some mini-micro crowd as I had hoped. So I thought I might pursue it on my own. However, I've never done something so small from scratch. The Blade is actually my first micro RC item. I love it. Someone suggested I toss a post up here with a link. I'm seeking advice about getting a slightly bigger version of this in the air this spring.

There are a lot of pictures and discussion of this project over in the foamies forum. Rare Bear Thread

Here's a picture of the 9 inch, 9 gram, Rare Bear next to my mSR.
Here is the web page http://www.electrifly.com/parkflyers/gpma1107.html

These will be available by the end of the month.

Here in Huntsville, AL. we've had 3 regular indoor flying sites for nearly a year now. See: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898132 for much more info, photos, schedules, etc. All are free. None require AMA. All are open to the public. All get some newly interested folks nearly every flying session.

Anyone care to tell us about your seasonal turnout at your indoor flying sites?

Attendance at 2 of our 3 sites have dramatically dropped off this summer from the initial turnout, and have not yet recovered this fall. Those two are monthly flying opportunities, as-scheduled, and we won't be able to get into those two aerodromes at all during December. The one group that keeps on keeping on meets weekly year-round. No, we've never had nobody turn out at any of them. But sometimes not very many at all show up. And the people with their own equipment seem to be staying away, leaving the place to mostly brand new people without flying equipment. These people fly once or twice and often we don't see them again. Of course, there may be some changes this Christmas!

So far I cannot tell that the aerodrome size or location is the cause of the success or less-success. Nor is it the publicity or no-publicity. No major AMA clubs are involved in any of the 3 sites. In fact, the clubs kind of poo-poo the idea of indoor flying. But some AMA club members come fly with us.

And there are plenty of neat planes and helis and more coming out all the time. So it's not a matter of lacking anything suitable to fly inside.

Perhaps Huntsville just does not have sufficiently terrible weather to make people really appreciate indoor flying opportunities.

What have you learned about seasonal turnout?

Howdy, folks,

As some of you might know, a few of the models I wanted to fly most at KIEF did not fly. At the time I assumed that the ESC on the PZ brick had failed. The servos would work, but the motor/prop wouldn't spin up. It was a bummer...

When I got home from KIEF, a local model buddy, Pete, called saying that he was having the same problem, and that he was convinced that the PZ transmitter was at fault. I didn't think Pete could be right. Who ever heard of a transmitter failing on only one channel??

Today Pete came over and we started working through the problem. Pete was right. Using the same batteries in the transmitters, we bound 5 transmitters to a couple of models. The two "bad" transmitters had throttles that didn't work. And the three "good" transmitters worked just fine! The fault was clearly in the TX...

Has anyone else seen this sort of failure mode in the PZ TX?

Hello !

This is my first attemp to build a mini (micro?) plane.
The project started from an old plan of a 3D biplane, scaled down to mini scale.

The wingspan is 289mm or ~11" .
Weight of the fuse only, without electronic and carbon struts is 10gr.
I hope to have a AUW of 60gr or less.
