Hi Don
I recently purchased a Wicked 2700 motor and a 40 amp Pentium

switching ESC from you. When I received them I tested both statically in

my Sky Fun airframe and they performed as advertised. I used my servo

tester instead of my Spektrum radio to control the motor.

When I installed my AR6000 radio And attempted to bind it to my

Spektrum transmitter ( Tx throttle stick in bottom position) I could

not get the receiver to "bind", it would only flash slowly.(About the

same speed that the ESC Beeped.) After much head scratching I decided

to substitute a 45 amp CC ESC, that I had, for the Pentium ESC, Bingo,

now the receiver worked normally, it flashed faster and did bind

promptly.

Perhaps the Pentium ESC may be feeding back a spurius pulse that

confuses the AR6000 receiver?

Have you had a similar experince? What do you advise?

Data ESC settings you use for you Wicked EDF motors

I have many people who ask what ESC settings to use. There are so many ESC brands out there it is impossible to keep up with them all so that is the main reason why I recommend only using the Pentium ESCs as I know it works and the cost is quite reasonable. However, other ESCs such as the Castle Creations Phoenix, and Thunderbird series work just fine. What I would like is for people who have a Wicked EDF motor to please post what ESC they are using and and ESC settings or firmware they have so we can have a database of what works and for what setup.

For the Hobbywing Pentium ESCs I use the following on all Wicked versions with 3S or 4S:
low timing
normal startup
no brake

So if you have another brand ESC please post what settings you are using and what KV motor you have as well as 3S or 4S lipo and what fan unit.

Also I wanted to point out ESCS to avoid.

ESCS to AVOID

Electrifly Series
Suppo ESCs
Rebranded Suppos ESC listed on Ebay under the name of "Mystery Pentium" (has big heat sink on it which the Hobbywing Pentium 40, 60 and 80 amp ESCs do not have.)

I will add more to this list as I find out. The issues on these ESCs is what is the RPM*pole limit. The Pentium ESCs have a rpm*pole limit of 420,000. So a 6 pole motor can run up to 420,000/6 = 70,000 rpm. A 2 pole motor can run up to 420,000/2= 210,000 rpm. Many of the lower cost ESCs are below 280,000 so they can only spin up the wicked to 46,000 rpm. Most 4s setups are higher than this RPM so that is why the ESC can not be used. It may be possible on 3S to use them, provided the rpm is low enough.
