Discussion Setting up the RDS 8000...

Been taking a little work to get things right, but I just realized what the HOV PI and TH switches do :cool: Making life much easier. I have about 3 flights in now, and not one single glitch. I cant remember a time flying in my garage without a glitch. HOW nice:D

For the money, man you DX guys should be looking at this radio, it just rocks. My only complaint is I got the same "stickers", so even after changing a couple sticks around, I cant re-label them because the extra one are the same ones:(

A ton to learn on this radio, but glad to have my chopper atleast flying with it. I need a new charger though, my Triton Jr, actually my SECOND one that is screaming "internal error". What crap. Even bought two of them, and look at what i get. I think I am getting this. Takes forever to charge on the little eflite charger...LMAO

Love the radio though, hands down. I cant believe more people are not flying with this.:eek:

Help! DX6i CX2 no rudder or throttle!

I've had my CX2 for two years and I finally decided to get a better radio than the junk it came with. Last week I bought a Spektrum DX6i.

I did the recommended ACRO memory set up, and binded the CX2 to the DX6i.
Aileron and elevator servos work fine, but no movement on the throttle or rudder.

What I have tried:-

1) Went back to original cheap radio - everything is good.
2) Installed the AR6200 receiver that came with the DX6i. - same problem.
At this point I'm thinking I have bad pots in the left stick of the DX6i.
3) Checked the DX6i's channel monitor - all respond.
4) I swap the aileron and rudder servo connections at the receiver. - now the left stick right left movement (rudder) moves the aileron no problem!

Now I'm stumped!! What is going on here? Am I missing something in the radio set up or is this a gyro problem?

Any help gratefully accepted.:confused:

Hi all!

In this thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1144106 I was lamenting my horrible flying skill in that I killed most of my heli's!

So I got the replacement parts for the B400 and Gaui and have rebuilt them. Still waiting for msr parts. For the Blade I'm now trying out an Align feathering shaft as it seems much simpler than the e-flite one. We'll see. I also switched out the stock gyro for a used Futaba 401. Everthing else is still stock.

Haven't flown the Gaui yet, but...

Took the Blade out and tried it for 3 batteries worth today. All I can say is: "WOW!" The tail stays where I put it! WOoo! I may learn to fly heli's after all! Really, I can't believe the difference in the heli's stability with the 401 in. Feels like I actually have control of the heli instead of fighting to keep it from crashing.

Now I can maybe start practicing other orientations without worring about constantly adjusting the tail.

Discussion Servo Horns

I think this is yet another daft question.

Do I have to use the same servo horns on all the cyclic servos?

I'm using HS65MG's, I cut back the servo horn for one of the servo's when it was on my Belt CP. however, in the last crash the horn spilt from the ball hole to the edge of my trim. The servo came with 3 horns, can I use one of the others even though the ball hole seems very very slightly different (horn center to ball hole)?

Question need help setting up blade 400 head for 3D

hey guys,
I got a good deal on a blade 400 3D and so far I like it. I put some high speed/torque servos on the cyclic (MKS DS-530). I have CF mains and paddles. I am trying to setup the rotorhead for 3D and quick response using as little expo and atv as possible. I am using a DX6i. I remember back in the day we had a post for the eco-8 listing the exact lengths for the rotorhead linkages to make the eco-8 fly perfect. I am looking for the same thing for the blade. searched RCG and google with no luck except a few youtube videos which I didn't like. the blade grips have been flipped to increase pitch but the rotorhead binds at full positive collective. maybe the stock setup would work. so if you know a link to the manual that actually explains the linkage lengths or something similar please let me know.
other than that it does fly pretty good, just crappy cyclic response. tail is setup perfectly :)

Discussion Dismounting the motor

Hi,

Still only on page 968 of this list. Tremendous!

Was hovering and suddenly a strange noise from the blade: seems the motor got stuck. Impossible to turn. I removed the 4 bolts that keep the motor in place and loosened one of the screws to less tighten the frame at that position, but the motor does'nt want to come out. Is there any description around that explains how to dismount the motor?

Alert IMPORTANT: using GY520 or GY401 gyros with MKS servos

Hello all,
I recently bought some MKS DS530 and DS545 servos for use on my blade 400. these servos will not work in digital mode with the GY520 and GY401 gyros. they must be set to analog when using these servos. My tail servo failed in flight causing an emergency auto (no damage). I wrote MKS and they have been very helpful in the matter and quick to respond. here is their 2nd e-mail to me.

In this moments recently got some issue like your side problem,. we have check from our side RD assist, due to probaly we found the GY520 or GY401 have been updgrade soem software insdie, thats why the DS545 can be locked well, please switch the set in: postion on Analog servo 1520/70hz can be work well no problem, thanks. just in case only this 2 servo have suitable problem we find it, hope this can be help & solve it your setup have a fun fly .

NO support digital servo setting on this ds545 servo. because the Gyro 401/520 has been updated several software can not keep up too fast ..so thats why its can locked well, please switch the set in: postion on Analog servo 1520/70hz .

1. Change another Gyro , so sorry about this inconvience. if you can.

2. try our ds9670 or 9660 it will handkle it well on 450 Heli class

I hope this prevents any future accidents.

Question 401 gyro dying?

I think my Futaba gyro is getting senile. In rate mode the centering is not consistent. When I deflect the stick in a given direction and release it the servo will center the first time. The second full deflection of the stick in the same direction results in less centering. The third time the tail blades barely move and stay angled.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong or has the gyro died?

Question T-Rex Post Crash Question

After a crash, my motor pinion no longer meshed with the gear. Hard to believe the motor moved in its mount after this fairly mild crash. Anyway, after moving motor back to mesh w/gear the main shaft does not turn even though the set screw at bottom og main shaft is tight. One way bearing?

Also, if anyone would like to throw out ideas on where to buy replacement parts...

Discussion Trex tail vibrations

Hi all
I recently put my 450 heli back together. I like to call it a Trex, but it has the frame of a HDX (all other parts are Align).
It has been grounded for allmost two years, waiting for a new gyro, and some motivation. :o

After putting everything together I tried to spool it up and noticed severe vibrations in the tail. Tried to replace the tail blades with a different set, but the problem was the same. Tried to remove the tail blades, and the problem disappeared, unfortunatly, I've been told that I need to have blades on the tail rotor.. :eek:
Talked to a friend who had a very similiar problem, and he told me that I should get an aluminum tail boom (i currently have a CF one), as this solved the problems he had.

Now, I thought I'd get the tail boom from the 450 Sport. Is this tail boom the same dimensions as the tail boom from the XL/SEv1?
Any other parts that might help to replace to get rid of the tail vibrations?

Question tower pro controler

Has anyone tried the tower pro controler? I got one to see how it compared to some of the other controlers I have tried:rolleyes: I can,t get it to work:mad: I have controls but no moter.I am useing a dx6I. I went through the bind routine and that works:D The instruction say the controler is supposed to signal with beeps. It don't! it just gets warmer and warmer:cool: And yes my solder joints are OK. I can do good solder, just have trouble with everything elce:o Any seggestions? other than throwing this damn thing in the trash. Thanks:) PB

If I wanted a slow easy to fly 450 what motor, pinion, ESC and gyro should I use all parts from Hobby King?

If I wanted to fly 3D the same question applies.

Discussion After crash analysis - what went wrong?

Usually the answer to this question is easy - pilot error! :D Unfortunately not today. Something mechanical failed, I'm trying to figure out what really happened.

This was the third flight of the day on a bird that had about 2 dozen flights or so on it. Took off into a hover and transitioned into some forward flight. About a minute into it, the heli just had a convulsion and became almost impossible to control. As I fought with it a bit to put it into an upright hover of some kind I realized it was a losing battle, so I hit the throttle hold and she came down. She landed right-side up on the skids, but she came down HARD.

The aftermath as seen in the pics is as follows. Broken boom at the boom block, bent flybar, 2 of the 3 cyclic servos are toast, and one linkage from 1 blade grip broke at the top and popped off. The vertical stabilizer is bent and muddy at the top? Wooded main blades were still intact but had a deep notch from the blade holders on each one, so I tossed them. The really odd and annoying thing is that my motor shaft broke off and is gone, along with my pinion! :mad:

I'm trying to understand what happened, I'm going to assume that a servo failed in flight and caused the reaction I got and subsequent crash, is that realistic? And yes, those are HXT900's there, but I never experienced an in flight failure like that before.

Discussion cp pro 2 help

hey new to this forum, and helis as well. i been flying my cx2 for a few months now and decided to step up to a cp pro 2. talk about a big leap. after a few decent bang ups with the cp i finialy got her to hover and am doing quite well with that part. here goes my problym now. from what ive read its normal for her to veer left when i take off, how ever if i have it planted on the ground right and windup the blades, than tilt it all the way foward as if i were flying fowards, mind you its still firmly on the ground, the blades seem to tilt fowards but noticeably to the left as well. im not sure if this is normal or not, or how i would go about fixing it. any help would be great.

Obviously I can tell the difference in materials, and whatever the specs say, but what does that translate to? I am sick of dealing with my HK450 plastic head and cheap quality, so I may buy one of the two. Which seems better for just flying around with maybe light 3D in the future?

Tail setup, some people say to center your rudder servo at 90 degrees and then set the tail pitch to 0. Other people say to when your rudder servo is centered you should add some right thrust to the tail pitch to counteract the rotor torque. It makes more sense to me, having some right thrust with the servo and gyro in natural it makes every thing work less and if gyro dies you will still have some right thrust?

Question How to Remove Bearings from CNC Blade Grips?

I finally managed to bend a CNC blade grip; the tab that supports the ball link. I'd like to scavenge the bearings from this grip. So far I have heated the blade grip but have not found a way to get the bearings to move. The inner diameter has no lip or crevice to push. Has anyone found a way to get these bearings out without damaging them?

Discussion Trex 450 V2, GY401, tail bounce after piro stops.

When I snap the heli right or left and do a quick stop with the tail it bounces once or twice before it locks in place.

I have it in HH mode and the tail locks nice.

I read to increase the delay, but the manual states to set the delay to zero with digital/fast servos. I'm using a 9650.

I set the delay to about 30 just to test it and it still bounces. stopping from a left vs. right - one way bounces more than the other.

I have the stock tail blades on it.

I'm also using a DX7.

Any suggestions?

Help! AXE 400 gyro problem?

I had perhaps 20 6minuite flights on my AXE400, when the tail started to give a very quick 20 degree wag...every now and then(flight or two). On my last flight the heli seemed like I was over-controlling..I set it down rather hard from 6feet up ( no apparent damage ) ....when I looked at the gyro the red light on it was off. I unpluged the battery, and pluged it back in..the gyro light came on ,and controls seemed to work OK. I took it up in a hover 30feet away and 5feet high..made a turn or two 70degrees left then right..the heli made 2 or 3 360s all by itself, and I set it down on training wheels, the red light on the gyro was off again..& I shut everything down.
Does it look like I have a gyro failure, or a receiver problem?
Is there a more reliable futaba gyro that I can plug right in without having to do a lot of setup stuff?
(I built and flew and XL-60 perhaps 20 years ago..never really great at it but could circle , hover, and loop the XL-60. My eyes are not too sharp these days...but close in 40feet or so I could control the Axe400 to an extent.)
(I am 68years old and not in the best of health..perhaps I should just fly planes on calm days)

Poll Which ESC?

When I bought my CopterX from eHIROBO I took the option to order the Motor and 50A ESC at the same time.

The question is, should I use the CopterX 50A ESC (which is huge) or an Align RCE-BL35X ESC that I have in my box?

My other Electrics are HS65MG's, RCE-600 or G401B Gyro (want to test differences) with Align DS420 Tail Servo. I only do basic flying.
