I've just completed a Helix that I got from Hempel Modelflugwelt. The quality of the kit is second to none...the best I've ever seen...and it went together very well. Instructions were all in German but pictures made it easy enough to follow. However, the CG is not so clear. The instructions say...

Measuring from the leading edge of the wing puts it way too far back. Measuring from the nose of the model might be OK, but it looks too far forward but it is difficult to tell because of the shape of the leading edge of the wing. Do we have anyone who can interpret these instructions? Google seems clear that it is from the leading edge of the wing, but this is the one measurement that can't be right.

Also, I was expecting it to come out at maybe 120g but I've ended up at 135g and I'm left scratching my head to work out how Christoph manages to get his original as light as 97g. OK, so he's cutting wires short and using lighter cells and motor, etc. But if I remove my battery (16g) and motor (17g) completely from the equation I'm still a few grams heavier than his model. I know I haven't added 30g of glue, that's for sure. Not to worry, it is still going to fly very well at 135g and maybe my next model will be lighter?

I'll take a few photos and post them later as I haven't seen anyone else posting about this model.

I'm looking at redoing the aileron setup on my Donuts Vega.

Currently using longest straight arm that came with the LSX110 (SD100, D4.7) servo. Servo and linkages are mounted underneath the wing which is top hinged.

Even with maxed out throws I have a very slow roll rate. As a result I use a lot of space during rolling manoeuvres. Due to use of rudder and elevator I tend to also end up a little off track. Combination of me and slightly off off axial roll.

I have a spare GF servo arm that came with the Sultimate. Not only is it wider but offset allowing for differential.

Am I correct in thinking that you want a forward offset regardless of whether servo mounted top or bottom? does the offset arm make a real difference? I know I should see an improvement in roll rate with the wider arm but wondering if the offset version offers a great deal over a straight arm.

What cells are looking good for this season?

I'm currently using:
Fullriver 250mAh 2s (~13g) - 5 packs
Flightpower EVOlite 350mAh 2s (~21g) - 5 packs

They're all about 2 years old and performance has dropped off noticeably this season so it's time to buy some new cells. I'm trying to decide what to get.

The options I've looked at so far (all 2s):

Extreme Power 300mAh
20C/40C
15.6g
€15

Hyperion G3 CX 240mAh
25C
16g
€10.50

Flightpower EON Lite 350mAh
20C/40C
23g
€13

Flightpower EVO 20 300mAh
20C/30C
21g
€6

Zippy Flightmax 350mAh
20C
21g
€2.50

Pros and cons:

The Extreme Power cells definitely win on energy density. They're about perfect except for the price. I'll be looking for at least 8 or 10 packs so it'll add up.

The Hyperions cells are a little on the small side for capacity. I've loved the Fullriver cells but would prefer just a little more flying time per pack. Also the weight though good isn't spectacular for the capacity. These are rated to charge at 5C which is nice, or I could get a few more cheaper cells and do all my charging at home.

The EON Lite cells are a little heavier than I'd like. They're also a little expensive (compared to the competition that is - compared to a few years ago all of the prices now are excellent!)

These are the older cells. Great price because they're on clearance. Weight is the same as my existing EVO Lite 350mAh cells but less capacity.

Cheap. Really cheap. Similar specs to my existing EVO Lites. Decent energy density but not quite as light as I'd like. I've used a couple of much larger Flightmax packs and found them pretty good. Shipping might add a bit?

Does anyone have any comments on the above options or have any other/better suggestions to add?

It seams to me that wing fences with the leading edge pointed towards the fuse should affect knife edge flight differently than those that point away. But do they? And are there any negative effects caused by placing the airbrakes on the trailing edge of the flight controls? In my mind this should decrease control effectiveness, but it doesn't seem to in videos.

I think that establishing a set of guidelines might really help with airframe tuning and trimming.

I got started flying F3P last January. I fly the Index 2.2 and am using a Hacker A10-15S motor.

My problem is this - As I practice, I tend to crash. When I crash nose first, I tend to break the fiberglass motor mount that came with the motor. I've broken both of the motor mounts that came with the motor. I bought a kit that contains two fiberglass mounts, but it includes several other items that I don't need. I have broken those fiberglass motor mounts now and am using the metal firewall motor mount to hold my motor on my Index 2.2. This works, but it is not the best solution.

Does anyone know where I can simply buy the fiberglass motor mounts without the extras that come in the motor mount kit?

Thanks,

Hello everyone!

It is my pleasure to introduce you the new F3P model called APEX. APEX is mainly designed by the need of getting to perform a new schedule with warranties, especially in small pavilions where precision and agility are very important factors.

It is a development which we are not used to in this sector because we had to manufacture five different prototypes to get a final model, and we really got what we were looking for, a complete and effective model in all aspects.

I can tell that it must be emphasized that the attitude of the model in flight is quite neutral. It shows a strong subsistence with a minimum leading angle making transitions from normal flight to knife flight a lot easier. Inverted flight is very stable because it is endowed with a strong dihedral in the wing. Knife flight just requires application of rudder, and it does not show any trend in this position. The exit of the maneuvers in decline is clean, without abrupt changes and consistent tracings, thanks also to a very effective developed brake which allows increasing the surface without deducting precision in the aileron control, that it is where this brake is placed. The ailerons have double aerodynamic compensator to be able to make the half-turn antitorque with warranties and without forcing the servo.

The distribution of different electronic elements has been also studied very well to get a static balance which favors the flight of the aircraft.

The technical data are the following:
Wingspan: 820mm.
Length: 930mm.
Weight: 120 -140 grams in flight.
Motor: AXI 2203/52
Servos: Dymond D47 on elevator and rudder;Dymond D60 on ailerons.
Controller: TMM Easy 7 or similar of 6 grams.
Receiver: Phenta 5 channels or similar of 3.5 grams.
Propeller: 9 x 3.8.

There will be three versions available:
1-White carbon kit for those who whish to customize their model and use their plates and carbon rods.
2-Kit painted in four colours, with carbon rods and accessories such as wheels, motor holder, control horns, transmission wire, etc.
3-Competition kit, painted in four colours, with all accessories and also applying the technique of grinding of the surfaces with a very significant weight saving in depron of 21%.

The model is owned by ROI IMPORT, distributor and owner of this model APEX. The first units will be available in early 18 November.

Best regards,
Andrés Leoni.
