1. cowl was cracked. (pa said there were going to send new cowl last monday, still dont have it)

2. the servos dont fit the precut holes and when making the holes bigger the ply backing plates feel off because there glued to balsa wood.

3. the brass bush is the only thing that holds the motor together (something has to be missing may be a c clip?)

4. the Quantum speedy is just to slow.

flu it for the first time yesterday.

Flight no1. everything went great. very happy..

Flight no2. ran the motor on the ground just be for takeoff and it was like 2 cats were fighting o man.... came home and pulled the motor out and 4 magnets have come loose:censored:

The motor was not hot after the first flight. So not sure what to do. i realy like this plane and flu really well..........

Hi, I've set up a sebart with the flaperon setting as per the manual using aux1 The problem I find is this, If I leave the Sub trim on low numbers or even zero I don't have enough throw in one direction or another.
Whil one aileron is still moving the other stops short, when going the other way the same problem happens in reverse.
When checking the monitor screen the two aileron channels are very offset from centre and they bottom out if moving to the edge but not when moving toward centre.
I can get full throws if I subtrim up around the + and - 200 mark, this moves the monitor positions closer to centre basically so they don't bottom out on the edges but it seems wrong to have to do this even though I can't see a problem with the actual physical movement.
Should I increase the atv adjustment? I haven't tried this.
Thanks for any help (advice)

Hello all!

I am growing a moustache this year for Movember.
I look absolutely ridiculous, so the least you can do is sponsor me to help raise awareness and funds for men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

I don't think I have the the hormonal capacity for a Classic 70's Bad-Cop Broomstick,
or the the ability to develop the thick luscious handle-bars of a Test Match Cricketer...
I'd be happy to settle for the whispy whiskers of a Cheezy Pornstar, but so far It's hardly an awesome mostache - more like an eyebrow which has come down for a drink, So Please Help!!!
I'm doin' my bit, and you can do something too..

What many people don’t appreciate is that close to 3,000 men die of prostate cancer each year in Australia and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime - many of whom don’t seek help.
Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved and I am hoping that you will support me.

To sponsor my Mo, you can either:

• Click this link http://au.movember.com/mospace/461931/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account
• Write a cheque payable to ‘Movember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 461931 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 292, Prahran, VIC, 3181

Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Also, http://au.movember.com has heaps of useful information.

Movember is now in its sixth year and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCFA) and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.

When I was a lad, I was a bit of an R/C Flying nut. I was into pylon racing for a little while and today I found some old old photos and thought I'd share with you lot.

First of all here's a couple of my planes that I took with me to a state pylon event in Toowoomba one year. Don't ask me which, I have no idea. I remember I was probably about 13 at the time so that would put it around 1994/5

On the left is my sports pylon plane, I'm not exactly sure what the model/maker is for this kit but it was expensive, and had a brand new donk in it at the time - all I remember is that in the first heat with this airframe I mid-aired with a guy flying an old piece of snot - my plane lost a wing and ploughed into the ground, a complete loss. He flew on to finish the heat. I was a little pissed off.

On the right is a little Bolly Viper - awesome piece of 1/2a gear. It was powered by an OS .11 CZ engine, which cost a whopping $300 at the time, and could smash out 32,000 rpm + - I loved that plane. It went in due to radio failure during practice one time. Sad. I really wish I could get a kit for one of these. If Les Bollenhagen is on the boards, mate gimme a 3-view! I'd love to make a modern Viper!

Next photo is another sports pylon (.40 novice group) plane that I flew the year before. This model's (and my) claim to Aussie pylon fame is that it beat Chris Callow in one heat of novice pylon at a toowoomba state pylon meet.

No idea what model it was either.. But here's the proof of my claim. You can see my awesome 1st heat time in the picture below, let's not focus on the other heats, ok?

This was a great event - Bruce DeChastle had unveiled his latest weapon, seen in the foreground of the picture below. It was fast, unconventional, and rule bending - with wheels in the wingtips and one single central wheel in the fuz. Also a v-tail! This plane flew awesome until Bruce lost a prop blade in practice.

I must tell the story about that plane.. After Bruce had his prop-blade loss incident, the airframe sat about the pits for a while, looking a little worse for wear but in tact. A flying buddy of mine and I decided we wanted it and offered Bruce some cash for it. We bought the plane, and took it home complete with Bruces' engine (which we had to send back without opening the crank case as Ranjit Phelan had done some secret squirrel modifications or something like that..) - The plane became a sports pylon model (such a sad fate for a cutting edge, FAI design, from what I know a one off DeChastle plane) - and I have no idea where it is today or even if it still survives. I was eventually bought from me by another friend who I have not heard from in over 15 years.

Lastly here's a photo of me with NOT a self-designed 1/2a model (bad memory) but a Lil' Devil. It was soon after crashing this plane in practice that I started to concentrate on high school and lose interest in flying. 17-18 years later and I'm once again bitten by the bug.

Well I hope there are some seasoned Aussie Pylon junkies out there who have found this post relatively not-boring. :p

Happy landings!

I'm going to do a build thread on this beauty. It's a 40 inch Bipe based on the full size Ultimate. Designed to run on 3s 2200mah batteries, I'll be using the recommended Thrust 40 motor spinning a VOX wooden 14x7 prop and the rest of the specifically designed IPAs setup. At a ready to fly weight of 1089 grams  I can't wait!

If you want to see more have a look under Electric Aircraft at precisionaerobatics.com

It comes packed in a big box (duh) but when you open that there are two boxes inside, one for the wings and one for the rest and everything is super secure inside. So it should travel well if you are mail ordering.

I've had a quick look at the 24 page manual and let me tell you nothing is left to chance. Eveything is covered in full detail with words and pics, from the build, to radio setup tips.

Here we go then!

Is this at the upper end of what others are launching to?...or at the lower end? Cheers, Mike

Hey Everyone.

Picked up one of these a few days ago and i felt like doing a build thread so here goes.

Picked the kit of from my LHS. Model Engines is the Australian importer for this kit.

Specs are;

Wingspan: 900mm
Lenth: 810mm
Fan Unit: 70mm EDF (wemotec clone i think)
Motor; ~3200kv Inrunner

I turfed the stock fan/motor combo and will replace it with a Wemotec Minifan PRO and a HET 3W (from ExtremeRC www.extremerc.com.au ).

Overall the quality of the kit is very high! Im extremmly impressed with how well the glass fuselage turned out.

Once i opened the kit i laid it out on the table to check i had all the parts.

Because i didnt have the right size servos, i started with the fuselage build. This is a pretty simple step because all the parts are tagged in pictures and only interlock in a certain way. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow.

First part of the fuselage build is to install the bungee hook. This just uses the supplied hook, and 3mm Nut and a 3mm Washer.

Once the Hook is in place, the battery tray and radio tray can be assembled. Thin CA worked well. All the ply pieces fitted together perfectly.

Next i epoxied the completed battery bay/radio gear tray into the front of the L39. The instructions don't give a real guide on a good location for the two trays, i just aligned a major cut out to be above the bungee hook.

At this point my build is kind of stalled. Servos should be here in the next day or two so i can keep going.

For now, i sanded away the gel coating on all the fiberglass surfaces

Liam :)

I paid the extra for EMS and thus far have never had a problem. I can only say that either it was run over or something weighing about 200kgs fell on it. The poor little Sukhoi was in pieces inside. I could see through where the box had split. I didn't know whether to accept it then chase it up or just not accept it at all. I ended up not accepting it. Not sure exactly whats going to happen now though. Hope it doesn't drag on for months.

Hi guys,

I thought it would be interesting to start a thread where we can share our experiences - good, bad and ugly - with the ARFs we are putting together on our build bench. What we like and dislike; and have a place to help each other if we get stuck.

To kick it off...I'm building:

eFlite Pitts model 12 - Great looking semi-scale bipe that has been a bit fiddly and on which I seem to last about two hours each session before I down tools! It's coming along and will be maidened in a few weeks.

Sebart Katana 30e - Just started it this rainy afternoon. Will be finished today, hopefully. Great kit (although this one is a factory second due to some minor manufacturing errors (was kitted at 4:30pm on a Friday, no doubt!) Hacker powered.

Dolphin aircraft - Goldwing MX 57' - Just started. Looks fantastic. Will be a blast and it's big!

Grupner Nemesis pylon racer - Ongoing build that I am not rushing. Have spent hours sanding it smooth and it just needs its running gear fitted.

25% RV-4 from Great Planes - Built. Just need to put my electrics in and decide on what monster brushless this beast is getting. Am thinking a Scorpion!

Boxed and waiting for some time to build in the new year or hopefully over X'mas:

Composite twin engine Hondajet 71'
Funjet
Couple of foamies
Catalina twin from Electrafly (Great Planes)

Cheers,
Garth
