This was the first video that I used my new little Samsung flash camera with 35X optical Zoom. I have since learned just to set the focus to infinity on manual for better results.

Look for more old-timer vids to be posted next spring because this thing just makes it so easy to do.

I just purchased a Micro Telemaster kit. I was looking for an Old Timer complete kit but could not find one in the size and price I was looking for. The Micro Telemaster has a 35" wingspan and is a simple build with full sheeted fuselage sides, and built up wing and tail. The plane has a single dihedral and straight untapered wings. I would say the closest Old Timer it resembles is the Buzzard Bombshell. Have any of you purchased this kit or done any mods to make it resemble and Old Timer. Thanks

Don was a fellow founder of the Hamilton Flying Tigers, back in the days when they flew free flight and U-control off the full size Mt. Hope Airport taxi-way ( It`s now Hamilton International).

Don was a very early MAAC member, and a very early SAM member which he loved to compete in many of thier events using original spark ignition engines out of his very large collection.

Don was unmistakable with his profile and custom head gear out at the flying field.

A great giver in the hobby, always getting members deals in butrate dope, alcohol, and nitro by the 5 gallon pail. Plus he had contacts for a endess affordable supply of small bolts, nuts and screws. Some of which I still have in my un-used stock.

I hope others out there in their clubs are as fortunate as I was to have had modeling friends such as him.
I have an oldtimer coming from a swap meet and the stab looks like a Cloud Cruiser, the main wing has about 8" dihedral and similar to a Majestic Major.
The fin and rudder are fairly tall and substancial and the most unique feature is the cockpit which is closed and between the fin and trailing edge. Windshield comes to a point in the centre and the top blends into the fin with a turtle deck.

Any ideas on what it might be? I've never seen one like this before.
It is similar to this Fiske.

Thanks Bill

We have the plans in full size but can reduce with no problems.

Brad and I both think it is one of the prettiest aircraft
ever built. Brad saw one fly when he was very young
and has never forgotten about it.

If built light, would it need a 40?

I did a search, but the phrase, "Powerhouse is used in
about a million posts, and sometimes several times in
each one.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I built the EasyBuild version of the Mystery tailless and had great success. It flew well and looks cool.

So I enlarged the plans to a 36" wingspan. I fiddled with the airfoil a bit. Since I don't know what I was doing this was very easy.

I made the fuselage from foam and finished it ala Kieth Sparks. The motor is an outrunner from RCHotDeals.com which pulls 8oz which was fine because the model weighed about 6 oz.

I ended up using a two cell LiPo, 740 mah and an 8-4 propeller.

My strip elevons were not large enough so I made them 1" and now there is enough control.

Since this is a free flight model I run it up to altitude, turn off the motor and let it glide without R/C input. It glides very well and is fast when you want to just steer it around a bit.

Fun to watch.
He has used up his old supply of heavy duty colored silk and building a new model. He can obtain heavy duty white silk and colored silk but light weight. Any ideas where to get heavy duty colored silk in the United States? Here are photos of two Waco electric powered models. Built from an old free flight set of plans with outrunner, 3 cell Li-Po and 2.4 gHz radio. A mix of new and old. Both great flying models. Jack

Ok so I've been convinced that I should build a 200% RZ. The plus is I have most of the pricey stuff on hand already. I have an old Sachs 3.2 gasser and plenty of 1/4 scale servos so now I just gotta build an airframe around it;) With a 108" fuse and 144" wing transportation will be the key to how I build this(it's gotta fit in my 4door Chrysler 5th Ave;) I'm thinking 4 piece wing, 2 piece fuse and removable tail. For construction materials I'm thinking lots of spruce, ply, and foam. I'm going to have to sit down and do some drawing up on rough plans to figure out how the fuse will go together but I'm thinking the tail servos will be mounted in the horiz. stab. This will obviously be a SLOOOOOW build which will give plenty of time for suggestions and for me to figure out how to sneak a 12' plane past the wife:p Here's some pics of the engine:

Hi all, well as reported in a couple of my previous posts I've decided to build a mini Red Zephyr for the power train from my Shock flyer :)

The motor is a microdan 2505 (1200kv) turning a SF 8x4.3 prop powered by 3s 740mAHr batts through a Scorpion 11A ESC. This combo outputs around 80w at WOT and gives 16Oz static thrust on a fresh charge.

The model - being 1/2 sized is 36 inch span and 6 inch chord. She weighs in at a hefty (for this size) 13Oz.

She maidened on Saturday and easily stayed aloft on 1/2 throttle, however the experience was spoiled a bit by a strong tendancy to nose-up alarmingly. I later realised that this was due to me not copying the generous wing tip washout that I have on the big version, so the little ones wings have way too much incidence. Over the weekend I rebuilt the tail section to drop the back of the tailplane by 1/4 inch and I hope that will do the trick - just waiting on some calm weather now.

I just love the Red Zephyr design and one day I still plan to build my giant version dream for a gasser.

Ok here's a little history before the video: this was my first flight with an onboard camera(its cheap so the quality is cheap) and also my first try at using my hatcam that I made. Personally I think they turned out great considering. I know the RZ looks a little weird with that wing but the stock one was taken out of service and I'm building a new one over the winter. Until the new one is done I've been using the wing from my Sig Riser 100 with great results. Let me know what you guys think.
One that kind of strikes my fancy is the Hot Canary: I really like the simple rib construction.
She's slightly enlarged form the original 30" to 34" to try to keep a lowish wing loading with the 3 channel radio on board.

At 22oz, it seems to have worked, she flew beautifully.

The power, a little 1cc Schlosser RC is just right, not too fast but gets around a large loop with no probems. Rolls on rudder are almost axial (well compared to my usual ones anyway).
Low throttle she just glides around, still with good control.

Covering is Airspan/dope and 2 pack floor finish.
My usual bashed ali cowl and a noce long exhaust extension completes the picture (and sounds good too, nice popping when I throttle down).
