InvenSense continues to roll out product evolutions, with a new 3-axis gyro chip arriving to join 2-axis products. The company recently announced the availability of the ITG-3200 3-axis MEMS gyroscope, the world's first integrated gyro with three axes of rotation (pitch, roll, yaw) on a single silicon chip. This new chip is intended to function in motion-based gaming and television 3D remote control systems.

The ITG-3200 offers a combination of industry firsts for MEMS gyroscopes. The 3-axis integration eliminates cross axis interference and zero rate offset shift; digital output eliminates external high-resolution ADCs; and, MEMS structure design and smaller process node provides the longest battery life for any 3-axis gyro and the smallest package size (4x4x0.9mm).

The ITG-3200 is designed with three independent MEMS gyro structures on a single substrate to maximize overall performance. It integrates three high-resolution 16-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) enabling fast motion gaming while concurrently supporting precision pointing and cursor control. It integrates low-pass filters, an embedded temperature sensor, and Fast Mode I2C serial interface, all while providing the highest level of robustness supporting 10,000g shock. The chip is available now to selected qualified customers, and will be priced at under $3 per unit in volume with mass production in Q1 2010.

I haven't been posting here much lately. After a nice summer's worth of flying my flying time is extremely limited these days. Due to the change of seasons bringing in much windier days and nights it's hard to find a nice calm day to fly. Couple that with the much shorter days, it's dark by the time I come home, and it all really puts a damper on being able to fly. So, except for an occasional short flight every couple of weeks or so my heli is spending most fof it's time these days packed up in it's box. The bright side is of course fewer crashes, fewer worn or broken parts. :). This will probably be the case till next spring summer.

Over the winter months to come I am thinking of getting myself a single rotor heli. I haven;t decided which, if any, I'll get, or, whether it will be FP or CP. In the event I do get a single rotor it will make for a nice adventure whence the days get longer, warmer and calmer.

Apologies if there are other threads about this...I didn't stumble on them, but would love to be pointed to them.

Here is my issue:

When I move the sticks fast on my TX, the response does not go all the way down. (Say if I'm at full throttle and zoom it down to minimum, the software stays nearly at full. The same is true of my roll/pitch/yaw commands).

My assumption is that this is something intentional in the control loop of the software. Anyone know why it is there or why I am experiencing this problem if it is not the intended way for it function? Has anyone else had this problem? Note that I experienced this on the UAVP original 3.15 and am now seeing it in the UAVX w/new PIC/code as well.

It is causing me problems in my ability to control the quad.

Thank you for any responses! - Amber

How do you tell if the inner or outer shafts on the Blade CX2 are bent? I am assuming that at least one of them are bent because when I try to fly the copter it goes off to one side and forward. Try to correct it with the right stick it useless. I do not see any visible wobble to the rotor shafts and this started to happen right after a minor crash
Should I just get a new inner and outer shaft and be done with it?

Regards,

I've just got into Quadrocopters this past week and I'm going to build one from scratch. I've looked at all the main topics in here and in AP, and on other websites, but I've kind of hit a wall, unlike when I've done helicopters or built computers.
I cannot seem to find that basic, easily understood, layman's info on how to get started with a Quad.
All the topics I've looked into are those where people are already in the know so I am unable to make that bridge.
The sort of things I'm trying to find out are as follows:

1) What do I need as a bare minimum in terms of circuit boards/brain? What am I looking for in features? What does all the techno babble mean?
2) Can I use my Futaba 7C 2.4Ghz radio, I heard somewhere 2.4 is a problem.
3) What KV of motor should I be looking at?
4) Can I use a standard heli ESC and what Amperage? Somewhere I read you need special ESC's.
5) How many gyros, how do they plug in etc?

... blah blah blah..

I'm just after the basics so I can get an idea of what everyone is talking about.
Any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I assume I can, it seems obvious I can, but it might not be as simple as I think.

I have an hbfp and hk 450 and good at hb and sim, still working on the real world aerobatics of the 450.

I want to get something good for me and my son to play with this winter and beyond (christmas present) he's 9 yrs old with some sim exp. but not much real world stick time. understands concepts not much practical flight time but loved the havoc helis I got for him last year,
but grew out of them very quickly because of their lack of control,
me and him were very comprable in flight skill, ha ha)

what should I get syma 026 chinook? or syma 008? or other sugg? want good control and long lasting in the $20 - $40 able to fly inside mostly and some outside on calm days (gonna buy two, one for me and him to fly together)

can't seem to get any OBJECTIVE info. all I can find is people who want me to buy what's on thier video... any FIRST PERSON advise would be great.

kinda leaning towards syma but don't need to... would like to buy from XHELI.com though as I have had great exp with them in the pat and know they will back up their products...

thank you all! and I'm sure a lot of DAD'S would like to read this and get an objective perspective on great xmas presents that sons and dads can play together  :D

I started this thread because this product is WAAAY underexposed and has been out over 6 months and there is 2 threads. One is for this model and like 5 others and is mainly an Aussie thread. They are more than welcome to post here as this thread is dedicated to this product. Also we are on like opposite time zones(night here day there). The other thread is a new product thread that has about a dozen posts a month. The best thing about this thread that MOST threads dont have is I will post others mods, repairs, Q&A on the 1st few pages so all the info will be in one spot. If you want a repair or mod posted or have a question or an answer to a question just type it up and post it. Please remember it will be put word for word in the appropriate section so please make it easy to understand as I will just copy and paste the info in the first few pages so it will be easy to find.

First the review for people thinking of getting one:

The Walkera UFO #8 is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and uses 4 main motors a little bigger than a 4#3B tail motor. There is alot less moving parts than a heli and is much easier to repair. I own ALOT of helis so I am in no way saying this is better than a heli just different. However there are huge advantages if you are new to helis. If you have never flown a heli get an MCX for inside and Esky coax or Walkera or a CX2/CX3 etc.. Once you can fly a coax you will be ready for a UFO. It is easier to fly than a 4#3B but a little harder to fly than a MSR. I bought my UFO from Chinese Jade(Terence)but you can also get them and parts in the U.S from Rick who is a sponsor here and poster and owns Club Heli. I have ordered a few things from him and his prices are good and he ships right away. This can be flown indoors or out with little or no wind. It will hover hands off out of the box if it was setup right. I got a BNF and bound it to my WK2801 Pro. It is like balancing a marble on a plate. If it leans one way it will move that way. One of the rings and one set of blades are Red and the rest are Yellow so you know where the tail is. It has alot of power and will shoot up fast. But not as twitchy as a 4#3B. Even for a seasoned heli pilot it is alot of fun for indoors or outdoors in a space too small to fly a 450 class. Also it is light so if you have nice thick grass you will have none or almost no crash damage. One thing I do not understand is why it is not more popular. I would assume cus not alot of dealers carry UFO's or Quadracopters. Not sure why as they have come along way in the past few years.
Here is a link to walkeras UFO #8 page-> http://www.walkera.com/en1/particular.jsp?pn=UFO8

Please help me. I've posted before here and in the beginners area, but did not get answers I could understand.
I have adjusted the proportional gain all the way to the right (clockwise and it will not go any further). If the screw could go further it would stop the heli rotation.
If I adjust it the other way (counterclockwise) the helicopter spins even more.
I read the manual and it was working until I played a little to much with the screw adjustment.
Is there any way to reset the gain to factory positions so heli will not rotate?
Thank you.
And, if I come up with such a hover power figure, how much should I multiply that by to get a motor size that's a good compromise between performance and low weight? 2x, 3x, 4x, ???

When it crashed, I'm guessing I didn't cut the throttle all the way, the results:

#1 Broken LG -
#2 burnt smell (4 in 1?) and no throttle up

Closer inspection found:
#3 Pinion gear right motor and slipped up to the point where it was engaging both main gears -

#4 There is vertical play in the shaft, Tugging on the upper rotor head I can see the movment in the collar (below the swash plate) & both main gears.

Questions:
With the throttle not shut down during the crash, could #3 have caused #2?

Is the vertical play in the shaft #4 normal? Would the collar adjustment help to remove the play?

I'm kind of timid with repairing these things see as how fragile they seem to be. The main gears I can see how the bottom main gear (inner shaft) is removed, How is the upper main gear (outershaft) removed?

Hi All -

I just wanted to share an experience I had last night so nobody else has to make the same mistake.

Last night I finally got my quad put together (custom build) and put on my APC 10x4.7 props. I went to calibrate the ESCs and completely underestimated the thrust of this thing. Fortunately I was able to maintain a hold of the quad but it sliced me pretty bad on my right pinky finger. Fortunately my brother was right there and reacted quickly and unplugged the battery from the quad (my xbee link came unlinked so the motors were just spinning full throttle). Blood was spewing everywhere and My girlfriend rushed me to the emergency room, where I received stitches on my finger. There were 4 deep slices.

I was so excited to have completed my build that I overlooked some safety measures. I got very lucky, too - if the quad would have gotten a hold of my face or other body parts, I could have sustained some serious injuries...

Lesson: These things are POWERFUL! Please, be very, very careful...

-Jamie

PS I have pictures of the whole incident but they are sort of bloody so I decided not to post them.

Looks cool! I am wondering if it flies like a co-axial and how well it performs outdoors.
