I am very new at this so be kind. :o I just finished building my second plane the Easy Star and flew it last week for the first time and the wings came apart in a fast loop. Many pieces are now one again and ready to fly with a few modifications.
Now I am read to build my Twin Star II. I bought the basic kit and order the Multiplex power pack (is this pack going to work O.K.?). When I put the moter in the motor bracket and bulkhead, the motor (outrunner) scraped on the bracket. I ground a tad off the inside ( called Multiplex and they told me to do that)to clear the motor when turning (why do they make kits to fit spacific planes it it doesn't work? Or use inrunner motors). I also noticed that screws that hold the bulkhead to the bracket just slipped in instead of screwing in (a couple of screw caught a little plastic but I would never trust them. I need a little larger diameter screws. Am I going to be useing the controller that came with the kit? I have two 18 Amp ESC that came with the power pack and I have two 30Amp ESC's I can use. Which would be better?
The power pack came with Two Himax HC2812-1080. Could you tell me what the numbers mean. I see moters that are 400 and 480 and then a lot like the two I got( I told you that I was a newbie :o )
After reading some threads on the gyros, I would also like to get a gyo to play with. Can anyone tell me a competitive place to purchase one or two. What brand and model would be helpfull too. Thats all for now. I'm sure I will have more questions later. Thank you all for all the informatin you give. I'm trying to find out as much as posible on the twin star before I put it all together.

I want to get an easy glider Pro and I'm wondering what the recommended or popular setup is for increased performance. I've read a lot of the posts on here about different ESC's, motors and props and I'm fairly new to electric flight and have become somewhat bewildered by the wide array of configurations. I fly mostly non-powered sailplanes but the easy glider bug has really bitten me.
I've seen the power pak set from Multiplex with the Himax 3515 motor and Thunderbird 36 speed controller, prop etc. but the cost of $150 or so turns me off. There's got to be a way to put together a great motor setup for a lot less.

Can anyone recommend a tried and true motor, esc, prop, and battery pack that will give me excellent performance. I'm not necessarily looking for vertical takeoffs but don't want to spend minutes getting up to thermaling altitude either.

By the way, I'm using a Futaba 6ex transmitter and Futaba 617 receiver 2.4 ghz. Are there any problems using this tx/rx setup with the easy glider ?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have an old Midwest foam J-3 Cub, that I plan to convert to electric. The model has a 45" ws, and about 285 sq in of wing area. Weighs about 18-19 oz without power system. I also have an Astro 010 with a 3.3:1 gearbox, and a Esskay 400XT outrunner. Which motor would best suit this model? Should I use 3s or 2s, and what props would work best?

Hey guys, you may have seen these buzzing around at JR indoor, and now they're finally almost here! This fun little plane definitely isn't your everyday indoor foamy. It was designed to take off and land vertically. This "Vertical Flying Object" makes hovering super easy, literally let go of the sticks and watch it stabilize itself. But that's definitely not all. Frank handed me the controls at JR Indoor festival a couple weeks ago and I had a blast with it. We flew battery after battery through the VFO and never ran out of new maneuvers to try.

They're due in stock at Tower Hobbies next week. Take a look!

Discussion Advice on adding Lipo to Easystar

I am buying an Easystar to mount a camera on the front. Will the stock motor handle this? I know it depends on the weight of the camera. This is not FPV, this is like a Flip Mino or much lighter. If I put in a Lipo battery, will I need to change the receiver? What Lipo do you recommend? Thanks!

I've noticed this kit sold by a number of companies (hobbypartz, nitro, banana, grand hobby). The price looks good but wasn't able to find any postings by some one who built it. The fact that it comes with no electronics at a good price is a plus for me as I prefer to select that stuff myself. So, does anyone know anything about this ARF? There is no manufacturer's name in the ads.
http://www.hobbypartz.com/4epattercaim.html

It appears that the same manufacturer has similarly priced models: P51, ME109, Spitfire, F4U, P-47, Zero and others. The ad copy all reads the same.

edit: I dug a bit deeper and found an RTF version that's been reviewed - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...highlight=at+6 It seems people are asking for exactly this package on that thread.

I've posted this question at the GWS Vendor section tagging on an existing (but old thread) on the T6. Haven't got a reply there so I'm hoping to get some help here.

Question:
The instruction called for the stick to be glued to one side of the fuse then gluing both sides of the fuse together. Can I do the oppopsite - glue the two sides together first then glue the stick and firewall later. This is because I haven't got the right motor but I would like to proceed with the rest of the build and painting.

Thanks for helping.

O.K. This is my first time here. I'm a newbie at the rc game. I have been flying a GWS Slow stick for several months till it finally went into the bay in Pensacola, FL while I was visiting there. The saltwater ruined all the electronics but the plane was O.K. I just flew it again tonight, after a month and a half. When I fly, I almost always have a video camera on board to capture my flights. For me it is half the fun of flying different places. I use a gum stick camera so the weight is almost nothing and it takes gread videos. You can see some of my videos here... http://www.youtube.com/user/coincarver
Durring my time off from flying I purchased an Easy Star cause it looks like a great plane to video from and easy to fly. The first thing I did was paint it. Real problems with the paint peeling off when masking. So if anyone knows the best way to paint these planes let me know. I also bought a Twin Star and I want to paint it before puting it together. I have not flown the Easy Star yet although it is ready to go. I had to add 1 1/2 oz in front of my 2200 lipo battery to get the CG right. Now I am afraid that it might be to heavy to fly. I have put an electric power combo from Maxx Products. It has a HB2815-2000 brushless motor, 6X4 prop and TB36amp ESC. The manual say the running weight is 680g and mine weighs 820g:eek:. I also added a little more rudder to it. Is that going to be a problem?
Here is a picture of my EZ

Hello,

I'm scratching my head over the wing area of EasyStar & EasyGlider. The values found everywhere (on Multiplex docs for example) are:
EasyStar : 24 dm2
EasyGlider: 41.6 dm2
However, when measuring, here's what I find:

EasyStar

Wing (each): 11.5dm2
Stab: 5 dm2
Total: 11.5*2 + 5 = 28 dm2.
This is 4 dm2 more than the specs ?!
EasyGlider

Wing (each): 15.5
Stab: 5
Total: 15.5*2 + 5 = 36 dm2.
This is 5.6 dm2 less than the specs ?!
If we don't count the stab area, we find the right value for the EasyStar, but also 31 dm2 for the EasyGlider, which is 25% less than the spec.

If we add the fuselage (6 dm2), we find the right value for the EasyGlider, but then if we add it as well for the EasyStar, we find 32 dm2, 33% more than the specs !!

I am updating a first gen twinstar to outrunners and like to know the airspeed i need to calculate the pitch for.
It will be used fr fpv so a bit on the heavy side.
I have 2 outrunners i got with a sale and found they have a kv of 1111 and intent to run them on 3 cell lipo (11.1 v) so that will give me a rpm of 12221 rpm
see http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1140719
So once i know the recomended airspeed i can get a few props of that pitch with diferent diameters to get a good (but not to high) load on the motors.
Since i don;t have data on the motors (measured the kv myself) i probbaly will go a bit conservative .

Anyway airspeed anyone? :)

Anyway I've been having a couple of problems, called up Mike at DW Foamies and rec'd great advice and will be getting something in the mail to fix my issue. In today's economy where every penny matters it's nice to know that companies stand behind their products and are eager to help.

This is my first DW foamie plane and I have many other planes but Mike's service means I'll be adding more DW foamies to my hangar in the future :).
Kudos and thank you Mike

Hi,

I am rebuilding my trusty Easy Glider Pro that i am flying mostly FPV and among other things I am changing the rudder/elevator servos. The old ones were glued with hot glue and in the process of removing them I managed to rip up small bits of elapor from the mounting surfaces.

So I wonder what the best method of mounting servos in an elapor foam aircraft is?
The manual talks about superglue on the servos' lugs. I am guessing that it can be broken with some moving if I want to remove them again in the future, but I am a little reluctant as i don't like that whitish foggy stains that the cyano leaves on the servo's black plastic as it evaporates. Hot glue is promissing but proved too difficult to remove from the foam.
Any other glue suggestions or application tips?

Do you guys know something that removes those white superglue stains? I have tried aceton earlier but it ate up and clouded the servo's plastic (Esky brand)...

Thank you,

You guys asked for it and here it is.
Due to popular demand I have designed and completed a conversion kit that applies to the Multiplex Twin Star.
A more “straight forward” set of instructions are available as a PDF on the website, look below the banner under free instructions then scroll down to ARF upgrades.
www.Parkflyerplastics.com

There is also a upgrade kit available as well that simply has a belly pan, cockpit / canopy and cowls that fits the Twin Star.
This thread covers the conversion kit’s development and why some things were done and others were not.
This conversion can be made on a completed model easily with the exception of the water rudder modification. With a little ingenuity this is still possible.
OR . . . you can ditch the whole thing and go with differential thrust for much better control on the water.

I put it all together without the electronics. It came out to 7.55oz. without glue. I figure after everything is installed it will be around 18oz. AUW.

Well, I have it all built now. I used hot glue through out the build. AUW came out to 1lb. 2.80oz. or as I guessed 18.80oz.

I tested all the electronics. I taxied it up and down.. all control inputs are ready working as planned..

The only thing I used from the plans is the model. I didn't use the location it called for the rudder and elevator servos. I used 2 servos for my eilerons instead of one. I used foam board with paper on..instead of EPP or Depron. So, yes it's quite on the heavy side. but, it's ok for me since I'm not planning on doing too much 3D stuff.. mostly pattern park flier style.
So I broke a lot of the build instructions..

So, now that I have this built and it's ready for a maiden..

It's 30" wingspan..

------------------------------------------------

Ok, after finishing my Ultimate from foamyfactory..

AUW came to 19oz. powered by an E-flight 370 out runner on 3S.

Ready for maiden.. taxied around and all systems are go.

I ended up making my own landing gear from flat aluminum stock I got at M&M Hobby Center. I first made a pattern for the landing gear using some manila folder scrap. I figured out the length I wanted and the distance to all bends.

Payed a visit to a some friends where I used to work at, where they have some machining equipment. I used their band saw and drill press to cut the pattern. Bend it and installed the 1.75 wheels. Look at how it all came out..

-----------------------------------------------------------

Today was a real nice day for a maiden. Winds were very calmed and it seems like my only opportunity to take my never before flown Bipe.

Never having flown a Bipe before, I was a little nervous as I didn't know it's flight characteristics. With cautious optimism, I went to my local Wally World where it's back parking lot is almost all ways empty.

Took my Bipe out of my Convertible Firebird, turned on my radio and plugged in the Bipe's 3 Cell 1550mAh battery. Did my pre-check on all the control surfaces. Did a round of taxing and position the Bipe plane with the 4 mph winds to it's nose. The moment I had been waiting for was finally here... There was no turning back as soon as I committed myself to go for it.

Powered up slowly and started rolling straight and true. Half throttle on the stick and about 20 feet it started to rotate and became air born with nothing more than throttle applied. Kept it in a straight trajectory to avoid the 40 feet night lamp posts scattered around the parking lot. Once I was above them, I started my first left turn. The turn was done at half throttle and it was smooth and very predictable. Did a fly-by right in front of me and it looked beautiful in the air... It's flight characteristics was as though, I was flying a trainer.

I was very surprised in it's handling.. nothing could have prepared me to how beautiful it flies. I was expecting an out of balanced, over weight rock with a prop. But, I have to say, that this was by far the best flying, easy to maneuver trainer like Bipe I have ever built. I had no idea that this Bipe would also be so.. so easy to land.

After about a 12 minute flight with loops and rolls and a tumble or two, I proceeded to bring it in for a battery check and change. Made my approach from the left and began my decent. I nailed a perfect 3 point landing with no damage to it's aluminum landing gear I made from scratch. Brought it in and put 3 more batteries through it. In the process of my Bipe's maiden flight, I got an offer to build one for a man that stopped to check my plane out. and a kid in a bike admired it and was amazed at what you could do with dollar tree foam board. maybe, he will get the bug and start to read up on RC Flight.

Very successful maiden flight... Can't wait to take her up for another set of flights..
