Hi all,
I am brand new to the hobby (haven't even really started) and I am not sure where to begin. I am quite sure I want to start with a simulator. I've been reading The Electric Helicopter Beginner's Guide v17 by Toshiyasu Morita to get a jump on things.

I am not sure if I want to work with Helis (probably) or planes. I know there are slight differences in the transmitters...

Anyhow, I am very impressed with the videos I've seen for Reflex XTR and AeroFly. Purchasing the software and running it is easy enough, but what do I do about a transmitter? I feel like the Electiric Helicopter Beginner's Guide is geared towards VERY serious hobbyists... the author suggests nothing less than a 6-channel transmitter... but...hmm. ?

Anyhow, I just don't know where to begin. I'm hoping someone will say, "Buy THIS flight simulator software, and THIS transmitter." :)

Ideally, I can learn on a simulator and eventually purchase an RC Helicopter (or plane, whichever I like better during the sim training). I'm okay with buying a cheap transmitter now, and a better one later when I actually buy a piece of hardware (plane/heli).

Ideas?

I started practicing cause I am looking to get a started plane in the near future.

After calibrating the controller I noticed that I am having problems with the throttle control. There seems to be dead spots in the throttle control. I read in a thread on here a fix on how to do it. Now I cant seem to find it. I spent about a hour looking everywhere and searching here. I dont think I am searching for the right thing.

I am using a InterlinkPlus that came with the RealFlight G3. Thanks for any help.

My question is
Is it worth while to buy Realflight5, when clear view flight sim is working ?

I have no interest in the combat of G5.
It really turns me off.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We are being recommended to practice on a simulator.
Being on a budget, I need to get best value for money. Also, for our very basic needs at this stage I assume I don't need a top of the range simulator.

The E-Sky simulator mentioned in my heading is cheap, and I would appreciate any advice as to whether I should buy one.

As I understand it, you buy the simulator and then download a free program for the Super Cub from FMS. Is that correct?

I run Windows XP and assume this sim will work with it?

Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks.

First I'm enjoying the Clearview simulator, except for the fact that I'm using my keyboard! I had ordered a USB chord (4 ch) to use with one of my older Hitec TX. I had been waiting for two weeks and my thumbs were getting itchy so I borowed a friends Realflight controller. Unfortunately it wouldn't work; not recognized by my PC as a joystick, or HID (human interface device). I finally got the USB chord, and it won't work (other than blinking), same reason as the Realflight controller (I assume) as it is not recognized by my PC. My PC uses Vista and has 10 USB ports, 5 on the back which I'm using for my printer, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. I unplugged them all and tried again and got the same results. I've tried every combination of powering up/starting the program using all 10 USB ports (including the procedure recommended by Clearview), using three different Hitec TX. I've read every post on RCGroups and Clearview's forum that I could find with no luck. The morning just before the USB chord arrived (over three weeks wait) I ordered a 6 ch. USB interface chord that hasn't arrived yet, but it seems logical now after all I've tried that the problem is not the chord, but my PC, or more accurately, my Vista operating system (which by the way really sucks). I've posted this on Clearview's forum, and they were helpful, but still no luck and I'm just waiting for the new chord. I don't think it will make a difference. Any of you computer wizards have any suggestions? LOL, I'm getting VERY frustrated; winter is coming and I won't be able to fly as much:(
