there are plenty more people out there with this problem, maybe they just think its normal but everyone needs to know about this before any servos are burnt up or airframes or broke by servo travel issues on startup.

one way this could make a bad day is with gas powered giant scale: ive got digitals all around a 50cc airplane and analog servos on the throttle and choke (as many others do). each time the plane is powered up the throttle and choke are slammed against their stops on the carburetor.

they'll be headin back to hitec.

Hi,

First off, I've installed my Spectra 2.4 in my Optic 6 and have Optima7 RX's in 3 different planes. Electrically, it works awesome. Planes fly great.

BUT, I can't seem to get the antenna mast to mount correctly. When I installed the plastic antenna mast into my Optic 6, I can only get it to loosely 'click' in. It does not screw into the threaded post at the bottom of the antenna hole. Looking at the mast, it seems that the threaded socket is in-set. What am I doing wrong? Just slipping the antenna mast over the threaded post is really too loose for my comfort. FYI, I didn't have to adjust the length of the mast, it was preset for my Optic 6.

Thanks,
Dave

I have an acromaster. It flies great when I am able to fly it, but I am having a lot of trouble with the motor vibrating. I am not a noob to model airplanes, and I also fly 450 size helicopters. With the helicopters I am no stranger to balancing spinning items like rotors or props.

I am using this motor:
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2139

HS55s for the ailerons, and the recommended servos for the tail.
ESC is a Scorpion Commander 45.

I use a good prop balancer, and I have balanced, re-balanced, and replaced the prop several times.
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/balancer.htm

I am quite certain that the prop is not out of balance, and this is the second motor. I am almost certain that there is something wrong with the motor mount, the build, or the design. I have replaced the mounting plate to which the motor is attached thinking perhaps I had somehow stripped the angle-screw holes. Something is definitely out of whack.

The problems presents like this:

I statically test the motor and tighten and adjust motor-mount screws until there is no vibration. I'll take the plane to the field and about 1/2 way through the first flight, or sometimes sooner, the motor mount will start to resonate and vibrate so violently that I am concerned that it will tear the nose off of the plane.

Once this starts there is no point in trying to do anything about it at the field. I'll take it home. Once Home I check the tightness of the two mounting screws. They are so tight that I am afraid to tighten them further for fear of stripping them. They have never loosened during flight.

After verifying that the mounting screws are tight, I pull the motor and check balance on everything, adjust the angle screws (they have never moved), and then reinstall the whole collection and statically run up the motor to check for vibration. Sometimes it goes away, mostly it does not. I'll fiddle and twist and tighten until I think I have it whipped.

I always do a static run-up to make sure that there is no vibration before I take it outside. Once at the field, it will be OK for the first half of the first flight, then it starts resonating and the process repeats. I have been at this for weeks, either trying to think of something else to try or some other part to replace. I have tried everything and replaced everything except the airplane.

At this point I have spent more time trying to stop the vibration than I have spent flying. I am quite frustrated.

Is there any hope for fixing this?

When charging I have noticed that the RED LED is very dim and when the charge is completed both LEDs are off. The GREEN never comes on.

I have heard this from at least two other people.
My Aurora shows 100% battery charge after the charging session so it appears to be working. It's just the GREEN LED does not do what the manual says it should do.

I really like the hitec 2.4 system and I especially like the ability to power the receiver via the SPC connector to avoid nasty receiver reboots caused by weak BEC's. However I would like to request a modfication to the software for the receivers power up routine. In the video you will see that when the receiver is powered up it will quickly move ANY/ALL connected servo(s) at least 45 degrees. I have 4 optima 7 receivers now and have noticed this behaviour on all of them. This happens for ALL servos attached. I would prefer that the receiver only moves the servos to the position being transmitted by the transmitter. My concern is that this movement could be exceeding any end points that are programmed for the particular model. This could cause damage to the model if any mechanical limits are exceeded.

Hitec would it be possible to add this as a feature or change the default behaviour? I suppose it would help to know why they added this movement in the first place.

Thanks!
Brendin

P.S. There is a workaround for this when using the SPC feature. Power up the receiver first using SPC then switch on the power (BEC) for the servos. I tried it and it works...although I do not have switches on my models. I suppose you could use a servo extension and plug the bec connection into the receiver after startup.

I got tired of trying to get the parkzone esc to arm with the optima so I replaced it with a phoenix 25. It works fine but I am getting this crazy wag on all servos when I power up the receiver. I think it is wagging 4 times. What does this mean? It does it every time. I tried another optima with some other servos (not in an airplane) and the same phoenix speed control and this does not happen.

update: I tried my other optima and it does the same thing with 4 servos connected using the phoenix 25. I unplugged one servo and powered it up and it only wagged a couple of times. Then I tried another 40amp e-flite esc I had with the 4 servos and it powers up with only one wag. Is this some kind of BEC overload at start up? Any ideas?

I then hooked everything back up with the spektrum module and receiver to test the phoenix 25 and it was fine. I have been flying this typhoon for years. First on 72mhz then on spektrum without any issues with the stock 20amp esc. However I tried everything and couldn't get the optima to arm the stock typhoon 20amp esc (another thread for this issue) so I replaced it with a Phoenix 25.

I've tried everything I can think of but I cannot get the Parkzone 20amp esc that is in my Parkzone Typhoon 3d to arm. I am running an optima 7 with the 2.4 spectra module in my Royal Evo.

Here is what I have tried (copied from other thread):

I'm having an issue trying to get the speed control inside of a parkzone Typhoon3d (1st version) to arm. It arms fine with the spektrum module in the evo and the spektrum rx. I put the optima 7 into it and verified all the channels and I can't get it to arm when I turn on the typhoon. All the servos move properly and the rx and tx are linked. I moved the esc off the throttle channel and onto an unused channel. I plugged in a servo to the throttle channel and I confirm that it is moving properly with the sticks. I even tried playing with the throttle trim up and down but I couldn't get it to arm. Radio is set to ppm-9.

I also tried two different optima 7's and it won't arm. I found the programming manual for the speed control and there are two settings for the throttle. I put the spektrum back in and programmed it with the first throttle setting and then tried it again with the optima and I couldn't get it to arm. I put the spektrum back in again and programmed it to the 2nd throttle option. I then tried it again with optima and couldn't get it to arm. This isn't good...I've got a number of different speed controls and if I have a problem arming some of them I won't be a happy camper. I tested a phoenix 25 esc and it worked fine with the optima with the same radio setup and channel as the typhoon. For some reason this parkzone 20amp esc does not like the optima.

I've tried trimming throttle all the way up and down, reversing, moving the end points up and down but can't get it working.

I wish my Aurora was here so I could test with that. :(

thanks,

Sorry to wake up this old story but would I thing it would be interesting to show Hitec/Mpx the real volume of 2.4 stuff they can sold on the US market.

I can understand that the Evo-9 can make direct concurrence to the Aurora but look some of us use more than 9 channels....

On my side I fly scale glider with my EVO-12 and it's not uncommon to need 10+ channels if we don't want to use Y-cable, matchbox or other devices.

My message is if MPX bring 2.4 on the us market I will for sure buy the module, I will also for sure buy 3-4 2.4 ghz receivers ( and not the small one) then I will also perhaps buy a spare radio... and also send the radio for the 2.62 upgrade which is not free ( if I'm right).

I really have some problem understanding the fact that MPX don't want to pay for FCC because the market is not there. Look at all those threads converting EVO radio to spektrum or other 2.4 systems.

Is Jetti not applying for FCC certification... why is ExtremLink also market a 2.4 module if the market is not there.

tks for helping

I tested this radio once and it worked. Then I did some servo reversing, which requires opening the case and moving plugs. Afterwards, moving the stick wouldn't do anything. The tx was still transmitting, because when I turned it on the servos would all move to a definite position. I guess I must have bumped something, but I haven't figured out what. I am not sure, as this was a while ago, but I may have bumped the entire tx at some point, or dropped it a small distance. Any hints, or do I just need to send it back? Hardly seems worth it to send back on such an inexpensive tx.

BTW, I like the concept of a simple 3 channel tx with one stick for two of the channels. And the smaller the better. The upgrading possibilities seem like a nice feature too.

Thanks,

My Aurora arrived today from Tower with no manual, and even worse with no coupon for the extra receivers.

What should I do?

One more question. Does Hitec have the transmitter charge plug available, or what size is it so I can make a field charge cord?

It looked beautiful when I packed up the night before. When I arrived at the field I put my airplane together and tested the set up again. It all looked perfect. I grabbed my trainer and asked him to look everything over and to take it on it's maiden flight. One of the first things he did is check the controls. We did a range check and all looked great. Then he extended the antenna and the plane stopped responding. we collapsed the antenna and the plane responded beautifully again. We repeated the process several times with, at best, spotty results. :( With loosening and retightening the antenna we would sometimes get the plane to respond. Needless to say, we packed up that plane and the Flash 5x transmitter with plans to send the transmitter in.

Have anybody ever heard of anything like this happening before?

I have spent the last two hours searching these forums with no success.
