My question is which type of glue to use?
Aliphatic Resin OR Cyanoacrylate
The Seamaster will see lake time and the Lazy Bee may see floats also.
Which is the easiest to sand, and what will make the strongest bond without being brittle? Also is either effected by water?
I feel like there is a favorite used with builders, but I don't know what it is.
Any input is welcome,

Im planning on drawing my own plans for a .60+ sized pattern style plane as an electric build. I have a set of RCM Trainer .60 plans. Would this make a good airfoil choice as a starting point for an aerobat of .60-90 size, or should I use something like an airfoil from a Kaos or similar plane?

Im looking to build something around 70" span with 10-12 A123 cells for power.

I have been reading here and elsewhere, it seems that the Kaos has a really good airfoil for speed and aerobatics and I am looking to have the best overall performance that I can get from the model.

I am not into 3D or actual pattern flying, but I want to move up to something that is more advanced. I can handle the plane, no problem, I just want to do this on my own design.

Lastly, can anyone email or post a printable pattern of the Kaos airfoil? I would prefer it to be in .jpeg form so I can work with it in photo shop.

Thanks.

The problem is that it doesn't cure properly when it's applied as thin coat. I used it to glue a 1/4" wooden dowel into a piece of CF pushrod, and after one week, the epoxy is still sticky. I was able to pull the dowel out of the CF with my hand. Ironically, the left over epoxy in the mixing cup is fully cured.

Hi people, I've been sketching out a retro style 1/2a pylon (australian 1/2a rules) racer design. I need a little help and guidance here and there. So far it's all TLAR based, apart from sticking to AMPRA 1/2a rules as far as fuz size and wing area. Here's a picture of the design as it stands.. Span is 930mm

Wondering what you lot rekon about the size of my horizontal stab? I just made it a lil larger before uploading that image. Think it looks about right now.

What kind of airfoil would people recommend? I've got it mocked up with an MH-46 there .. I'll have to settle on something before I embark on the plug build though I guess it's not entirely important as I'll probably have to build a wing an d shape the plug around that.

This airframe is designed to run with an OS CZ .11 PS engine, though I would like to also create an electric version and also one for slope soaring with a larger wing area etc.

I would appreciate any comments/advice. Cheers! :D

This is a Sketchup "build" log, at least for now. I'm picking up again on a long running on-again, off-again project, the PZL 104 Wilga 35.

Last using Turbocad, I had started to play around with wing structures: slat/slot construction techniques. Between computer crashes, busy work load, and focus on other non-RC hobbies, progress languished.

I'll post progress updates as I hit major milestones. I'm working off drawings from Bob Banka. Once the model is essentially complete, I'll scale down & start considering actual structure.

First, the story behind this build... I am 19 and was diagnosed with Severe Ulcerative Colitis about a year and a half ago and have been in 2 VERY VERY severe flares, hospitalized, and lost about 45 pounds each time.

I am JUST now coming out of this most recent one and I told some guys on here my story and Capt. Crunch Donated to me an Air Flair Diamond Tea fun flyer kit! I couldn't believe how dang generous and thoughtful these guys are that donated all this stuff to me!

Here's a list of guys that have donated stuff to me:

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who has donated anything to me for this build and anything else!

These guys are great and I can't wait to start this build!

Alright guys, here's the first pictures! Looks to be in great shape... gonna be a pretty tough build I think for me so I'm gonna be asking for a lot of help!
I few days ago I started working on designing my own plane for the first time as my dad is a woodworker and has a CNC router that I can use to cut out the parts. My basic design parameters are: I would like it to be a sport/aerobatic plane, with a 60-70 inch wingspan, a light wing-loading with a high power-to weight ratio (as it is aerobatic after all) and I have incorporated a symetrical wing design. most of the fuselage will be sheeted apart from the lower half of the empenagge which will be left open.

Any design suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Andrew

I posted this question on another thread and it was suggested that I start a new thread, so here goes. Being new to trying to fix or replace parts on woodies I thought there should be a thread where the inexperienced builder could go to and get expert advice on how to make a proper repair. Hoping others could and will you this site to seek advice when they need it. My initial problem is with a sophisticated lady that I had a crash with this past fall. Some of the damage was a straight forward fix but the wing hold down has me wondering just how to go about fixing the damage properly. I have included pictures of the damage. Any advice would be appreciated...Ray

I want to go the extra mile when assembling this ARF plane. In particular, I want to protect and or strengthen all exposed bare wood, particularly inside the fuselage. Further, I want to do what I can to protect it from fuel soaking, in particular the firewall. I would be interested in hearing what others have done in this regard... products used such as paints and/ or adhesives and any techniques that you would like to share. Thanks in advance.

I like the traditional approach to building model airplanes. I started a thread a few weeks ago on building a .60 sized Super Kaos. It's time for me to make up a Bill of Materials and place an order for the wood that didn't come in the shoprt kit I bought from Laser Works. I have bought balsa from SIG and Balsa USA> Who do you use?

Hi there! I recently had a crash that resulted in the demise of my nose cone on a plane that is no longer in production (buying spare parts is not an option).

I'm looking for ideas on how to go about making a nose cone? I've thought about molding something out of foam, but the thought of a million statically charged pieces of foam getting everywhere in my shop doesn't sound so appealing. I don't have access to a vacuum machine either, so vacuum forming a replacement is not really an option either.

Does anyone have any quick, easy, relatively non-messy ways of making a new nose cone?

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

My first and easy idea is to make ovaled cutouts with lands at the hinge locations to absorb the forces and the holes running lengthwise. They start at about 8mm at the thick end and ~4mm 3/4 of the way out.
So, how wide and long can I make the holes and keep the stiffness ? It would be nice to trade the cutout weight for the Econokote covering or even loose some in the process.
I need to stop the fuel flow before i waste too much fuel.
I have come close several time to purchasing one of the Rabbit laser, but without air assist, I question how much I could really do with it. I got spoiled by my brothers 60 watt tabletop laser with air assists, but I don't have access that any more.

What are people using for low cost lasers. Or is anyone using one.

Also, I am wondering if anyone is using a laser to cut out patterns in covering materials (i.e. monokote).

Thanks in advance.

Working on building a DH Mosquito from Gus Morphis plans. Just starting. This is my most ambitious build so far. The rest of my projects have been complete kits or short kits.

Question: I'm presently working on the wings. Is there a typical way to attach nacelles to wings? Also, ideas on access hatch to the inside of nacelle, for throttle servos, landing gear, fuel tank, etc??

Any ideas or pictures of similar projects would be appreciated. I'm sure I'll have additional questions along the way.

Thanks! Paul
